This book investigates the working mechanisms of public opinion in Late Republican Rome as a part of informal politics. It explores the political interaction (and sometimes opposition) between the ...elite and the people through various means, such as rumours, gossip, political literature, popular verses and graffiti. It also proposes the existence of a public sphere in Late Republican Rome and analyses public opinion in that time as a system of control. By applying the spatial turn to politics, it becomes possible to study sociability and informal meetings where public opinion circulated. What emerges is a wider concept of the political participation of the people, not just restricted to voting or participating in the assemblies.
Los senadores romanos preferían encontrarse en persona para hablar y discutir sobre los temas que les atañían, pero, cuando esto resultaba imposible, empleaban el correo como sustituto. Teniendo en ...cuenta su importancia y la frecuencia de su uso, los senadores eran conscientes de que existían toda una serie de normas sociales y de etiqueta no escritas que regían la comunicación por carta. Estas normas servían para evitar conflictos indeseados o, en el caso de infringirlas, para ser conscientes de que podían dar lugar a un conflicto. Este artículo propone un estudio sobre la etiqueta del intercambio epistolar entre senadores y miembros de la élite respecto a temas políticos durante la época ciceroniana, estableciendo como novedad el paralelismo con las conversaciones políticas informales. Se analiza la cuestión de cómo y con quién contactar, se estudian las normas que regían el reenvío y lectura a otras personas de cartas y, finalmente, se examina qué excusas resultaban aceptables (o no) para justificar no haber escrito. Este estudio permite identificar las normas y reglas no escritas, lo que posibilita calibrar el grado de tensión que éstas podían provocar. Al mismo tiempo, se estudia cómo los senadores intentaban ceñirse a ellas para evitar enfrentamientos políticos con otros senadores.

Making decisions require increasingly more sophisticated methods. The Best-Worst method was developed recently to find a good balance between the amount of information required and its consistency. ...The Fuzzy Best-Worst method was then proposed to integrate the uncertainty and imprecision of evaluations. In this paper, we propose the Calibrated Fuzzy Best-Worst Method, which enables us to define personalized fuzzy numbers. This new method was applied to the real case study of a global fashion supply chain suffering a dramatic drop of demand due to the COVID-19 shocks. Since its upstream was leading to a ripple effect on the rest of the supply chain stages, our study focused on evaluating the viability of its distribution channels based on weighted resilience capabilities and performance indicators. The proposed method allowed being more precise than the traditional Best-Worst method because it personalizes the uncertainty and subjectivity. The results revealed that cash flow, revenues, and inventory turnover were the most important performance indicators in the supply chain resilience. Financial strength, adaptability, and market position were shown to be the most critical resilience capabilities in preserving supply chain survivability with low-demand items and longer disruptions. Their effects explain why e-commerce was the most viable distribution channel.
