We present results from the initial run of Fermilab experiment E706. The data include incident pisup minus and ital p beams at 500 GeV/ital c on Be and Cu targets, and span the kinematic ranges of ...transverse momentum and rapidity of 3.5leital psub ital Tle10 GeV/ital c and minus0.7leital ysub c.m.le0.7, respectively. We have measured cross sections for pisup 0 and direct-photon production, as well as the eta/pisup 0 production ratio. From the data on Be and Cu, we have extracted the nuclear dependence of pisup 0 production, parametrized as ital Asup alpha. The cross sections are compared with next-to-leading-log QCD predictions for different choices of the QCD momentum scales and several sets of parton distribution functions.
We present new measurements of {pi}{sup 0} production at high transverse momenta ({ital p}{sub {ital T}}) for {pi}{sup {minus}} and {ital p} interactions on Be and Cu targets at 500 GeV/{ital c}. The ...observed dependence of the yields as a function of {ital p}{sub {ital T}} and rapidity ({ital y}) is compared with expectations from leading-log QCD over a kinematic range in which the inclusive cross sections fall by more than 4 orders of magnitude.
It was concluded that this conference, sponsored by the EPA, has provided an opportunity to state current ideas regarding the utility of data from studies in developmental toxicology and that the ...deliberations have highlighted the need to consider fundamental relationships between maternal and developmental effects in a more comprehensive manner in the future.
The atmospheric neutrino flavour ratio measured using a 1.52 kton-year exposure of Soudan 2 is found to be 0.72 +- 0.19 +0.05 -0.07 relative to the expected value from a Monte Carlo calculation. The ...possible background of interactions of neutrons and photons produced in muon interactions in the rock surrounding the detector has been investigated and is shown not to produce low values of the ratio.
