Most networked systems of scientific interest are characterized by temporal links, meaning the network’s structure changes over time. Link temporality has been shown to hinder many dynamical ...processes, from information spreading to accessibility, by disrupting network paths. Considering the ubiquity of temporal networks in nature, we ask: Are there any advantages of the networks’ temporality? We use an analytical framework to show that temporal networks can, compared to their static counterparts, reach controllability faster, demand orders of magnitude less control energy, and have control trajectories, that are considerably more compact than those characterizing static networks. Thus, temporality ensures a degree of flexibility that would be unattainable in static networks, enhancing our ability to control them.
MicroRNAs are a class of small, non‐coding RNAs that can negatively regulate protein‐coding genes, and are associated with almost all known physiological and pathological processes, especially ...cancer. The number of studies documenting miRNA expression patterns in malignancy continues to expand rapidly, with continuously gained critical information regarding how aberrantly expressed miRNAs may contribute to carcinogenesis. miRNAs can influence cancer pathogenesis, playing a potential role as either oncogenes or tumour suppressors. Recently, several miRNAs have been reported to exert different regulatory functions in oesophageal cancer – the carcinoma typically arising from the epithelial lining of the oesophagus. These miRNAs also have potential clinical applications towards developing biomarkers or targets for possible use in diagnosis or therapy in oesophageal cancer. In this review, we have summarized the two (oncogenic or tumour suppressive) roles of miRNAs here, and their applications as potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets, which may illuminate future treatment for oesophageal cancer.
Abstract
This paper proposes an advanced encryption standard (AES) cryptosystem based on memristive neural network. A memristive chaotic neural network is constructed by using the nonlinear ...characteristics of a memristor. A chaotic sequence, which is sensitive to initial values and has good random characteristics, is used as the initial key of AES grouping to realize "one-time-one-secret" dynamic encryption. In addition, the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm is applied to encrypt the initial values of the parameters of the memristive neural network. The results show that the proposed algorithm has higher security, a larger key space and stronger robustness than conventional AES. The proposed algorithm can effectively resist initial key-fixed and exhaustive attacks. Furthermore, the impact of device variability on the memristive neural network is analyzed, and a circuit architecture is proposed.
The coherent generation of light, from masers to lasers, relies upon the specific structure of the individual emitters that lead to gain. Devices operating as lasers in the few-emitter limit provide ...opportunities for understanding quantum coherent phenomena, from terahertz sources to quantum communication. Here we demonstrate a maser that is driven by single-electron tunneling events. Semiconductor double quantum dots (DQDs) serve as a gain medium and are placed inside a high-quality factor microwave cavity. We verify maser action by comparing the statistics of the emitted microwave field above and below the maser threshold.
