Prompt recognition of electrocardiographic signs of acute coronary occlusion is essential for timely restoration of flow. ST-segment elevation or new onset left bundle-branch block are the most ...common electrocardiographic changes seen in acute phase of coronary occlusion. However, some patients may present with atypical electrocardiographic signs, and early diagnosis of these patients may constitute a clinical challenge. Here, we report a 41-year-old man presenting with an atypical electrocardiographic manifestation despite angiographically confirmed acute thrombotic occlusion of proximal left anterior descending artery.
Psoralen plus ultraviolet light therapy (PUVA) combines the administration of psoralen with an exposure to ultraviolet A radiation. Psoralen plus ultraviolet light therapy is used for the treatment ...of a variety of skin diseases including morphea and generally considered as a safe treatment modality. We present here a rare case of 65-year-old woman presented with acute myocardial infarction following PUVA session, which has not been reported previously.
We present the Global Rapid Advanced Network Devoted to the Multi-messenger Addicts (GRANDMA). The network consists of 21 telescopes with both photometric and spectroscopic facilities. They are ...connected together thanks to a dedicated infrastructure. The network aims at coordinating the observations of large sky position estimates of transient events to enhance their follow-up and reduce the delay between the initial detection and the optical confirmation. The GRANDMA program mainly focuses on follow-up of gravitational-wave alerts to find and characterise the electromagnetic counterpart during the third observational campaign of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. But it allows for any follow-up of transient alerts involving neutrinos or gamma-ray bursts, even with poor spatial localisation. We present the different facilities, tools, and methods we developed for this network, and show its efficiency using observations of LIGO/Virgo S190425z, a binary neutron star merger candidate. We furthermore report on all GRANDMA follow-up observations performed during the first six months of the LIGO-Virgo observational campaign, and we derive constraints on the kilonova properties assuming that the events' locations were imaged by our telescopes.
The presented work demonstrates the placement of new 60Co gamma sources at the irradiation complex situated within the Institute of Radiation Problems, Ministry of Science and Education of the ...Republic of Azerbaijan. Additionally, it highlights the preparation of the source's radioactivity power table using novel dosimetry methods. The gamma irradiation complex consists of the Gamma Facility for Radiation Research Cobalt-25, Gamma Facility Radiation Chemical Continuous Action-20000 (GFRCCA-20000), and Modern Radiation Chemical Facility Gamma-25 (MRCFG-25). The calculations are mainly based on the accurate calculation of the dose power and the dose absorbed by the material in the modernized “Modern Radiation Chemical Facility Gamma-25” facility. Monte Carlo N-Particle code (MCNP) calculations give the distribution kinetics of the photon quantity on the surface of the material depending on the energy of the gamma source.
•Research work on a complex of new Co60 gamma sources.•The activity and the dose rate reduced to 4001 Ci, 142.3280 Rad/sec, respectively.•Device exhibited a daily decay of 0.05 Rad/sec, decay factor of 0.999715, and activity decay of 1.5 Ci.
There is a lack of information regarding the provision of parental leave for surgical careers. This survey study aims to evaluate the experience of maternity/paternity leave and views on work-life ...balance globally.
A 55-item online survey in 24 languages was distributed via social media as per CHERRIES guideline from February to March 2020. It explored parental leave entitlements, attitude towards leave taking, financial impact, time spent with children and compatibility of parenthood with surgical career.
Of the 1393 (male : female, 514 : 829) respondents from 65 countries, there were 479 medical students, 349 surgical trainees and 513 consultants. Consultants had less than the recommended duration of maternity leave (43.8 versus 29.1 per cent), no paid maternity (8.3 versus 3.2 per cent) or paternity leave (19.3 versus 11.0 per cent) compared with trainees. Females were less likely to have children than males (36.8 versus 45.6 per cent, P = 0.010) and were more often told surgery is incompatible with parenthood (80.2 versus 59.5 per cent, P < 0.001). Males spent less than 20 per cent of their salary on childcare and fewer than 30 hours/week with their children. More than half (59.2 per cent) of medical students did not believe a surgical career allowed work-life balance.
Surgeons across the globe had inadequate parental leave. Significant gender disparity was seen in multiple aspects.
In this study, polycrystalline tungsten and tungsten carbide samples were irradiated with gamma rays at energies of 1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV, respectively. The irradiation was performed using an ...“MRX-γ-25 M” radiation camera with an activity of approximately 6.54 Gy/s. Doppler positron spectroscopy (DPS) and positron lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) were utilized to investigate the mechanisms of defect formation in the polycrystalline structure of tungsten samples at different doses of gamma irradiation. In the initial tungsten sample, a significant number of free monovacancy (1 V) clusters were present. An increase in the positron lifetime component τ1 was observed with increasing gamma irradiation, accompanied by a decrease in its intensity. The τ2 value (218 ± 2 ps) suggests the presence of divacancies with a considerable intensity (∼20%). As the gamma dose accumulated, a dynamic evolution of structural defects was evident. The tungsten carbide (WC) samples displayed greater plasticity in response to increasing gamma irradiation doses. Changes in the void volume ratio within the samples were recorded as the gamma dose increased, and movement of these voids towards the surface was observed. Additionally, the operational limits of gamma-irradiated tungsten were assessed, determining a functional threshold of up to 3.378 MGy. This study provides valuable insights into the defect dynamics and structural changes in tungsten and tungsten carbide under gamma irradiation, contributing to the understanding of their behavior in radiation environments.
•Polycrystalline tungsten and tungsten carbide were irradiated with gamma source (60Co) with a dose rate (D) of 6.05Gy/s.•No main tungsten and tungsten carbide phase transition upon irradiation.•In 4709 kGy dose, clusters of one tungsten vacancy and di-vacancy of tungsten and carbon are mostly present in the material.
This article examines the types of faults observed in the windings of traction transformers used in the railway system and the factors that cause them. A visual inspection of traction transformers ...used in the railway system was conducted. The results of experimental testing of operating oils in traction transformers are presented. It was determined that the main cause of the observed faults in the traction transformers was the transformer oil.
The problem of calculating residual oil reserves and predicting wells flow rates is considered in the paper. A mathematical model for calculating this problem is given. A computational algorithm and ...a program for the mathematical model are created. Using the developed program the flow rate was predicted and the residual reserves were calculated on the example of a well of the Umid field. The convenience of the problem solution with a developed program is shown.
