Funerals are a reflective practice to bid farewell to the departed soul. Different religions, cultural traditions, rituals, and social beliefs guide how funeral practices take place. Family and ...friends gather together to support each other in times of grief. However, during the coronavirus pandemic, the way funerals are taking place is affected by the country's rules and region to avoid the spread of infection. The present study explores the media portrayal of public sentiments over funerals. In particular, the present study tried to identify linguistic dimensions associated with lexical components of social processes, affective processes, fear, and disgust. An exhaustive search of newspaper coverage of funeral and related articles was made for a specific corona period. After an initial screening for the details and language used, a total of 46 newspaper articles on funerals were finalized for the analysis. Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) software was used to determine the association between linguistic dimensions of function words and words related to social and affective processes, as presented in the newspaper articles. Sentiment Analysis and Cognition Engine (SEANCE) was applied for the analysis of sentiment, social cognition, and social order. Bayesian correlation analysis and regression revealed positive and significant associations between function words and affective processes, between pronouns and social processes, and between negative adjectives and psychological processes of fear and disgust. Also, significant negative associations were found between polarity nouns and psychological processes of fear and disgust and between polarity verbs and psychological processes of fear and disgust. Bayes factor 10 provides strong evidence in favor of the study hypotheses. The media is influenced by the prevailing sentiments in society and reflects their perception of the current social order and beliefs. The findings provide a glimpse into the prevailing sentiment of society through the lens of media coverage. These understandings are expected to enhance our observations of how people express their feelings over the loss of their loved ones and help mental health professionals develop their therapeutic protocols to treat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-affected population.
In this paper we describe a collaborative, cross-cultural project whose focus is on developing an interactive pedagogy for undergraduate students that delivers a culturally relevant ethical activity, ...using an internet platform to widen the scope of learning at an international level. The ongoing collaborative project described here is implemented through a website, the Ethical Engineer (https://ethicalengineer.ttu.edu), that provides an open and unique online digital platform for developing a community of students committed to the discussion of ethics from a global perspective. A goal of this project was to gain insights into similarities and differences between Indian, Ukrainian, and USA respondents in their reasoning about a hypothetical ethical dilemma. Two complementary methods of analysis were applied to students’ responses. First, a well-known method for text analysis, Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC2022) was used to identify topics and perspectives in students’ essays that distinguished the three groups. These analyses were followed by naïve Bayesian analyses that were used to further identify characteristic conceptual differences between the three ethnic groups. We discuss how the Ethical Engineer platform could be further developed by providing students with immediate substantive feedback to their written responses, in order to extend the learning benefits to students from participation on the website. The analytic methods described here demonstrate ways to gain knowledge of globally-diverse students’ thinking.
In this paper, we describe a framework for bilingual decoding instruction, with a call for collaborators. Decoding is the ability to apply knowledge of letter-sound correspondences to pronounce ...words. We adopt a standard phonological approach for early instruction that could be expanded to include practice with constructive morphemes, like prefixes and suffixes, and reading for meaning. Decades of research have shown that word decoding is a bottleneck in reading comprehension. Unless children develop sight-word reading capabilities, comprehension of texts is severely hampered. The present approach draws on children’s spoken vocabulary knowledge in their native language as a bridge to decoding in a second language. The goal is to develop a tutoring system that draws on current and forthcoming multimedia technologies, and to implement the system in multilingual countries, e.g.: USA, India, Ukraine and across national borders. As a starting point, the authors will use a web platform https://ethicalengineer.ttu.edu designed in 2017 by the USA, Indian, and Ukrainian collaborators, several of them being co-authors of this paper, as a model for the new website for reading instruction. The Ethical Engineer website demonstrates one mechanism through which instructors can reach out to establish connections within and outside their native country around topics and issues of common interest and support educator cooperation and research development. The new model hopes to achieve success comparable to that of the EthicalEngineer. Using computer-based instruction allows for empirical testing of teaching methods, thereby optimizing the educational process. It is important to take advantage of this to ensure the most effective methods are used in early reading instruction for children.

INTRODUCTION: The challenges related to several viral outbreaks spanning over the centuries have exceeded human resources and capacities of the health departments to deal with the consequent ...adversities. Each epidemic or pandemic faced has brought out the inequalities and gaps in our systems and infrastructure. OBJECTIVES: The focus of the current paper is to do a comparative study of complex challenges faced and strategies adopted by governments during the SARS, MERS, HIV, and Ebola outbreaks. METHODS: To achieve the objective, a comprehensive summary of the challenges that the world has faced, and lessons learned from the strategic management of these viral outbreaks were analysed. CONCLUSION: An inclusive approach for the development of a multi-pronged strategic framework to benefit the concerned or affected stakeholders is discussed. These actions can guide health care workers and individuals to be aware of health hazards and complexities.
Risk assessment is an analytical instrument used to measure a person's likelihood of certain diseases and disorders by quantitative risk factors in health (such as age, weight, living condition, ...literacy, the family history of a disease, etc.). A risk assessment model is a combined effort to identify and analyse potential events that can adversely affect individuals, assets, and the environment. Since times immemorial, infectious diseases have been the leading cause of widespread mortality globally. New ones are materializing, and old ones are resurging. Early identification of infectious disease and evaluating the risk factors are essential first steps towards executing successful disease intervention and planning control measures—various air-borne diseases like influenza, chickenpox, COVID-19, etc. are candidates for such models. By customizing the risk assessment model for Kolkata, we will monitor the factors responsible for the growth and spread of diseases. The current paper aims to focus on risk assessment based on the aggregation of various factors relevant to the prediction of disease transmission (RAAPDT).

Social media, microblogging, and other means of e-communication can be used for extracting the content to decode the quality, valence, and effectiveness of communication. OBJECTIVES: In this paper, we represent the explanatory urge of mental health assessment during a pandemic situation, especially in a smart city scenario. METHODS: We reviewed the role of sentimental analysis, as an emerging application tool for emotional and behavioural analysis for the population affected by a pandemic. This paper examines the prospect of analysing the sentiments through machine learning tools to understand, describe, and predict human behavior. CONCLUSION: Further analysis of this psychological e-content can be used to understand and predict the patterns of human sentiments.
The association between emotional intelligence and the ability to accurately recognize and identify different facial expressions is unexplored. The current situation of the pandemic has forced many ...people to face intense and complex emotions that are difficult to process or manage. Emotional intelligence affects individuals' ability to perceive and identify complex emotions through nonverbal cues such as facial expressions. This paper discusses the relationship between emotional intelligence (EQ) and the recognition of emotions accurately. The participants are 200 undergraduates from universities in India. They were administered the Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) (Schutte et al., 1998) online for measuring emotional intelligence. Google Form was prepared to study participants' ability to recognize emotions via images depicting facial expressions. The result shows a significant positive correlation of 0.67 between EQ and accurate recognition of emotions. The findings reiterate that reading others' facial expressions can be a precursor to emotional intelligence.

Self-Presentation impacts the personality as well as social cognition of an individual. This paper discusses various self-presentation tactics that an individual utilizes to present themselves ...accordingly in front of others. The present paper explores self-presentation tactics among urban youth to see how each of the dimensions differ among male and female. The participants are college students (N=60), within an age range of 18-25, including 30 males and 30 females. The Self-Presentation Tactic Scale (Lee et al.,1999) was administered to measure the dimensions of self-presentation. The study findings revealed significant differences among males and females in each of the dimensions of the Self-Presentation Tactic Scale. Results suggest that male use more tactics to impress others in comparison to females. The result table reflects that the t stat values for excuse (10.15), justification (11.53), disclaimer (9.51), self-handicapping (11.69), apology (8.85), ingratiation (5.00), intimidation (8.96), supplication (9.59), entitlement (10.47), enhancement (10.54), blasting (11.21) and exemplification (13.05) respectively, are greater than the t critical two-tail. Thus, self-presentation and its multitude dimensionality provide an in-depth understanding of gender differences in attitude and consequent behaviours.

Stigma against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) individuals is not a new phenomenon. There is strong evidence to show that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) people ...experience stigma that results in several health-related issues. The present paper is a systematic review of studies published in the last 10 years that explores stigma and its associated health consequences among the LGBT population in India. A total of 50 studies were identified based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist and were analyzed to explore the existence of stigma and its impact on physical, mental, and sexual health among the Indian LGBT population and to identify intrapersonal and interpersonal factors that are responsible for the experience of stigma and its manifestation on health. The analysis revealed that LGBT people experience social rejection and structural disregard that led them to experience stigma and impact their physical, psychological, and sexual health. Lack of knowledge and sensitivity regarding this community, nonacceptance from family, partners or peers, and other society members are the interpersonal factors. Self-blame, low self-worth, guilt, identity confusion, and loneliness are some of the intrapersonal factors responsible for LGBT stigma.
