The aim of this study is to analyse the morphological pattern of different types of myopathies including morphometric data. The cases were diagnosed as myopathy on the basis of clinical details, EMG ...findings, serum CK values. Muscle biopsies were performed and hematoxylin & eosin stain and Masson's trichrome stain were done. Muscle fiber diameters were measured using an eye piece micrometer of 100 fibers in each biopsy, these values were plotted and histograms were constructed. From this, mean fiber diameter (MFD), standard Deviation (SD), atrophy factor (AF), hypertrophy factor (HF) and variability coefficient (VC) were calculated. Degree of inflammation was scored semiquantitatively and presence of degenerating fibers, regenerating fibers, perifascicular atrophy, perivascular lymphocytic infiltration and vasculitis were noted. Out of 25 patients, 9 patients of inflammatory myopathy were adults, of the 16 patients of dystrophy 9 patients were adults. Along with weakness of limbs, skin rash was seen in 2 patients of dermatomyositis. Degree of inflammation was more in the patients of inflammatory myopathy than in the patients of dystrophy. Necrotic and regenerating fibers were seen in both groups. Perifascicular atrophy was seen in 1 case of dermatomyositis. Atrophy factor was higher in cases of dystrophy and so was hypertrophy factor. Variability coefficient >250 was found on 90% of dystrophy cases and it was <250 in the cases of inflammatory myopathy. Morphometry provides valuable data, which helps in distinguishing dystrophy from cases of myopathy with inflammation.
The exclusive photoproduction reactions $\gamma p \to J/\psi(1S) p$ and
$\gamma p \to \psi(2S) p$ have been measured at an $ep$ centre-of-mass energy
of 318 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA using ...an integrated luminosity of 373
pb$^{-1}$. The measurement was made in the kinematic range $30 < W < 180$ GeV,
$Q^2 < 1$ GeV$^2$ and $|t| < 1$ GeV$^2$, where $W$ is the photon--proton
centre-of-mass energy, $Q^2$ is the photon virtuality and $t$ is the squared
four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex. The decay channels used were
$J/\psi(1S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$, $\psi(2S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $\psi(2S) \to
J/\psi(1S) \pi^+ \pi^-$ with subsequent decay $J/\psi(1S) \to \mu^+ \mu^-$. The
ratio of the production cross sections, $R = \sigma_{\psi(2S)} /
\sigma_{J/\psi(1S)}$, has been measured as a function of $W$ and $|t|$ and
compared to previous data in photoproduction and deep inelastic scattering and
with predictions of QCD-inspired models of exclusive vector-meson production,
which are in reasonable agreement with the data.
This cross sectional analytic study was carried out among the admitted patients of the department of Neurosurgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka during the period of 1st July ...2002 to 31st December 2004. The age ranged from 2.5 years to 70 years. The size of all posterior fossa tumors at presentation were more than 3 cm and the mean size of posterior fossa tumor was 4.38 cm. 62% of posterior fossa mid-line tumors were mixed density in NECT (non-contrast CT). Regarding enhancement characteristics, mild-moderate enhancement and marked heterogeneous enhancement was equally distributed 46% followed by marked homogeneous enhancement only 08%.. The calcification was present only in 07 (14%) patients and most of them were ependymoma. Histopathologically, medulloblastoma was the common variety (32%). The CT scan diagnostic modality sensitivity, accuracy and positive predictive value were 100%, 84.78% and 84.78% respectively but in MRI diagnostic modality 100%, 91.30% and 91.30% respectively.
A single layer, single feed compact rectangular antenna is proposed. Resonant frequency has been reduced drastically by cutting unequal rectangular slots at the edge of the patch. Antenna size has ...been reduced by 46.13% with an increased frequency ratio.
Mutator phenotype of nucleotide repeats has been implicated to be involved in human cancer and other diseases. This type of instability may be the direct result of DNA replication and/or repair ...errors. To examine mutator phenotype during the development of human prostate cancer, we undertook this study to screen 57 patients with prostatic adenocarcinoma for possible mutator phenotype at 18 microsatellite marker loci on 12 chromosomes (3p, 5q, 6p, 7p, 8p, 10q, 11p, 13q, 16q, 17p, 18q and Xq). Overall, in 37 of 57 patients, we have found positive mutator phenotype in at least one of the loci analysed. A significantly greater number of cases were found to be positive for this phenotype among the poorly differentiated than the moderately- and well-differentiated prostatic adenocarcinomas. Our data suggest that mutator phenotype may play an important role in the development and progression of human prostate cancer.
The riboflavin sensitized oxidation of cysteine under an aerobic condition was investigated. The effects of various scavengers, such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, mannitol, sodium azide and ...potassium ferrocyanide (an electron donor), on the photooxidation were determined. A reaction mechanism involving the superoxide anion is proposed for the photooxidation of cysteine to cysteic acid.
The HERAPDF2.0 ensemble of parton distribution functions (PDFs) was introduced in 2015. The final stage is presented, a next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) analysis of the HERA data on inclusive ...deep inelastic \(ep\) scattering together with jet data as published by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. A perturbative QCD fit, simultaneously of \(\alpha_s(M_Z^2)\) and and the PDFs, was performed with the result \(\alpha_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1156 \pm 0.0011~{\rm (exp)}~ ^{+0.0001}_{-0.0002}~ {\rm (model}\) \({\rm +~parameterisation)}~ \pm 0.0029~{\rm (scale)}\). The PDF sets of HERAPDF2.0Jets NNLO were determined with separate fits using two fixed values of \(\alpha_s(M_Z^2)\), \(\alpha_s(M_Z^2)=0.1155\) and \(0.118\), since the latter value was already chosen for the published HERAPDF2.0 NNLO analysis based on HERA inclusive DIS data only. The different sets of PDFs are presented, evaluated and compared. The consistency of the PDFs determined with and without the jet data demonstrates the consistency of HERA inclusive and jet-production cross-section data. The inclusion of the jet data reduced the uncertainty on the gluon PDF. Predictions based on the PDFs of HERAPDF2.0Jets NNLO give an excellent description of the jet-production data used as input.
