To assess the impact of a college preparation program, district-wide changes in high-stakes test pass rates are examined, followed by an examination of specific program elements that are associated ...with students' score changes. Changes in pass rates for districts with and without services are compared for the Latina/o and overall student populations. This study also examines the relationship between hours of participation in various elements of the college preparation program and changes in test scores of low-income Latina/o students. Results indicate that key program elements related to improvements in test scores include participation in mentoring and summer programs.

This study evaluates the relationship between elements of a college preparation program and the college readiness of low-income and/or Latina/o students at the completion of 6 years of participation ...in the program. Hours of participation in tutoring, mentoring, advising, college campus visits, summer programs, and educational field trips are examined in relationship to students' college-track course completion and Preliminary SAT (PSAT) participation. In addition, the relationship between students' expectations for college and their ranking of program activities is examined. Results indicate that key program elements related to college readiness include advising, college campus visits, and college information through booklets and speakers.

This article synthesizes the literature relevant to coping with racism to provide a 4‐stage model for addressing clients' discriminatory experiences. Major suggestions drawn from the literature ...include applying frameworks with a contextual lens, using broaching and eliciting skills to promote client exploration of racism and the effects of racism on persons of color, enhancing client racial and ethnic identities, and tailoring interventions to the clients' culture and preferred coping strategies.
Scholars have cited an antiracist identity as an ideal development status for Whites seeking to change systemic racism (Helms, 1995). However, little is known regarding the lived complexities of ...antiracist work itself. This article examines the experiences of one group of Whites (N = 10) committed to antiracist action. Outcomes indicate challenges that include backlash and struggles to identify more effective antiracist tactics. Coping mechanisms are considered in relation to counseling and counselor training practices.

Este artículo presenta los hallazgos obtenidos a partir de un estudio que exploró las experiencias vitales de personas blancas comprometidas con la acción antirracista. Según el modelo de identidad racial blanca de Janet Helms (1990, 1995, 2014), estas personas son aquellas que muestran características del estado de autonomía. Los resultados temáticos indicaron que los esfuerzos de los participantes (N = 10) por controlar su propio racismo son por naturaleza tanto proactivos como reactivos. Se comparan los hallazgos con la literatura teórica y empírica en torno al desarrollo de la identidad racial de personas blancas comprometidas con la acción antirracista.
This article presents outcomes of a qualitative exploration of White racial identity. Ten participants whose characteristics were reflective of Helms's () autonomy status defined their racial ...identities and related lifestyle choices. Findings are conceptualized within the framework of Helms's (, ) theory of White racial identity development. Suggestions are intended to enhance White racial identity theory and provide empirical support for characteristics of Whites who are engaged in antiracist activities.
