This letter presents a combination of searches for Higgs boson pair production using up to 36.1 fb-1 of proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy √s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS ...detector at the LHC. The combination is performed using six analyses searching for Higgs boson pairs decaying into the b¯bb¯b, b¯bW +W -, b¯bτ +τ -, W +W -W +W -, b¯bγγ and W +W -γγ final states. Results are presented for non-resonant and resonant Higgs boson pair production modes. No statistically significant excess in data above the Standard Model predictions is found. The combined observed (expected) limit at 95% confidence level on the non-resonant Higgs boson pair production cross-section is 6.9 (10) times the predicted Standard Model cross-section. Limits are also set on the ratio (κλ) of the Higgs boson selfcoupling to its Standard Model value. This ratio is constrained at 95% confidence level in observation (expectation) to -5.0 < κλ < 12.0 (-5.8 < κλ < 12.0). In addition, limits are set on the production of narrow scalar resonances and spin-2 Kaluza–Klein Randall–Sundrum gravitons. Exclusion regions are also provided in the parameter space of the habemus Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and the Electroweak Singlet Model.
Summary
Hypogammaglobulinaemias are the most common primary immunodeficiency diseases. This group of diseases is very heterogeneous, and little is known about these diseases in children. In the ...Pediatric Predominantly Antibody Deficiencies (PedPAD) study, we analysed data from the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) online database to gain more insight into the characteristics of children with hypogammaglobulinaemia; 46 centres in 18 different countries agreed to participate. Data from 2076 of the 3191 children who were registered at the time of data extraction with a diagnosis of hypogammaglobulinaemia (this excludes agammaglobulinaemia and defects in class‐switch recombination) were available for analysis. The data set showed several limitations. Because of country‐related differences in diagnostic criteria used for the classification of different types of primary hypogammaglobulinaemia, further analysis of the data was performed in the combined data set. The most striking observation is the strong majority of male patients in the group of children with primary hypogammaglobulinaemia (n = 1292, 63%). This male predominance was observed in each of the 18 countries involved. The boys were younger at diagnosis (mean age males 5·3 years; mean age females 5·8 years). Moreover, one or more complications were more frequently reported in boys (12%) compared to girls (5%). The male predominance suggests that patients with an undetected or unknown X‐linked genetic cause are included in this group of children registered as primary hypogammaglobulinaemia.
The great auricular nerve (GAN) is a sensory branch of the superficial cervical plexus. While its blockade is an established procedure, little is known about the ultrasound appearance of pathologic ...conditions of the GAN itself. We, therefore, aimed to evaluate the possibility of the visualization and diagnostic assessment of the GAN along its entire course by means of high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS).
To assess the feasibility of visualization, we performed HRUS with an 18 MHz probe, HRUS-guided, fine-needle ink markings and consecutive dissection in six anatomical specimens. Then, we measured the diameter of the GAN in healthy volunteers and finally performed a retrospective review of patients referred for HRUS examinations because of pain within GAN territory between August 1, 2012 and August 1, 2013.
The GAN was clearly visible with HRUS from its formation to the final branches, and was marked successfully on both sides in all anatomical specimens (n = 12). The mean average in-vivo was 0.14 cm ± 0.03 (range 0.08-0.2). Seven cases of patients with GAN pathologies of various origins (idiopathic, traumatic, tumorous and iatrogenic) were identified, of which 6 were visible on HRUS and all of which could be confirmed by complete resolution of symptoms after selective HRUS-guided GAN block.
This study confirms the reliable ability to visualize the GAN with HRUS throughout its course, both in anatomical specimens and in vivo. The provided cases show that pathologies of the GAN seem to have a variety of causes and may not be rare. We, therefore, encourage the use of HRUS in patients with unclear pain in the auricular, periauricular and posterior-lateral head.
Low mechanical loss, high index-of-refraction thin-film coating materials are of particular interest to the gravitational wave detection community, where reduced mirror coating thermal noise in ...gravitational wave detectors is desirable. Current studies are focused on understanding the loss of amorphous metal oxides such as SiO sub(2), Ta sub(2)O sub(5) and HfO sub(2). Here, we report recent measurements of the temperature dependence of the mechanical loss of ion-beam sputtered hafnium dioxide (HfO sub(2)) coatings that have undergone heat treatment. The results indicate that, even when partially crystallized, these coatings have lower loss than amorphous Ta sub(2)O sub(5) films below ~100 K and that their loss exhibits some features which are heat-treatment dependent in the temperature range of ~100?200 K, with higher heat treatment yielding lower mechanical loss. The potential for using silica doping of hafnia coatings to prevent crystallization is discussed.

Our study provides a viable way toward controlled manipulation of skyrmion lattices, envisaging chirality-controlled skyrmion flow circuits and enabling precise measurement of emergent electromagnetic induction and topological Hall effects in skyrmion lattices.
Background The clinical and immunologic features of CD27 deficiency remain obscure because only a few patients have been identified to date. Objective We sought to identify novel mutations in TNFRSF7 .../ CD27 and to provide an overview of clinical, immunologic, and laboratory phenotypes in patients with CD27 deficiency. Methods Review of the medical records and molecular, genetic, and flow cytometric analyses of the patients and family members were performed. Treatment outcomes of previously described patients were followed up. Results In addition to the previously reported homozygous mutations c.G24A/p.W8X (n = 2) and c.G158A/p.C53Y (n = 8), 4 novel mutations were identified: homozygous missense c.G287A/p.C96Y (n = 4), homozygous missense c.C232T/p.R78W (n = 1), heterozygous nonsense c.C30A/p.C10X (n = 1), and compound heterozygous c.C319T/p.R107C-c.G24A/p.W8X (n = 1). EBV-associated lymphoproliferative disease/hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, Hodgkin lymphoma, uveitis, and recurrent infections were the predominant clinical features. Expression of cell-surface and soluble CD27 was significantly reduced in patients and heterozygous family members. Immunoglobulin substitution therapy was administered in 5 of the newly diagnosed cases. Conclusion CD27 deficiency is potentially fatal and should be excluded in all cases of severe EBV infections to minimize diagnostic delay. Flow cytometric immunophenotyping offers a reliable initial test for CD27 deficiency. Determining the precise role of CD27 in immunity against EBV might provide a framework for new therapeutic concepts.

fb. Differential cross-sections as functions of several observables are compared with state-of-the-art Monte Carlo simulations and next-to-leading-order theoretical calculations. These include cross-sections as functions of photon kinematic variables, angular variables related to the photon and the leptons, and angular separations between the two leptons in the event. All measurements are in agreement with the predictions from the Standard Model.
We have developed prototype arrays of metallic magnetic calorimeters for applications in X-ray astronomy. Each pixel consists of an all-gold X-ray absorber in good thermal contact to a gold-erbium ...paramagnetic thin film thermometer that is operated in the temperature range of 30–100 mK. The para-magnetic response is coupled to a SQUID amplifier. We have characterized pixels in an array and observed the expected temperature dependence of the magnetization and heat capacity. We have demonstrated a full width at half maximum energy resolution of 1.7
±
0.1 eV at 6 keV and have also read out these devices using time-division multiplexing.
