Autonomous vehicles are being developed to replace the conventional, manned surface vehicles that tow mine hunting towed platforms. While a wide body of work exists that describes numerical models of ...towed systems, they usually include relatively simple models of the towed bodies and neglect the dynamics of the towing vehicle. For systems in which the mass of the towing vehicle is comparable to that of the towed vehicle, it becomes important to consider the dynamics of both vehicles. In this work, we describe the development of a numerical model that accurately captures the dynamics of these new mine hunting systems. We use a lumped mass approximation for the towcable and couple this model to non-linear numerical models of an autonomous surface vehicle and an actively controlled towfish. Within the dynamics models of the two vehicles, we include non-linear controllers to allow accurate maneuvering of the towed system.

Background
Stronger resting-state functional connectivity of the default mode and frontoparietal control networks has been associated with cognitive resilience to Alzheimer’s disease related ...pathology and neurodegeneration in smaller cohort studies.
Objectives
We investigated whether these networks are associated with longitudinal CR to AD biomarkers of beta-amyloid (Aβ).
Design
Longitudinal mixed.
Setting
The Anti-Amyloid Treatment in Asymptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease (A4) study and its natural history observation arm, the Longitudinal Evaluation of Amyloid Risk and Neurodegeneration (LEARN) study.
Participants
A sample of 1,021 cognitively unimpaired older adults (mean age = 71.2 years SD = 4.7 years, 61% women, 42% APOEε4 carriers, 52% Aβ positive).
Measurements
Global cognitive performance (Preclinical Alzheimer’s Cognitive Composite) was assessed over an average 5.4 year follow-up period (SD = 2 years). Cortical Aβ and functional connectivity (left and right frontoparietal control and default mode networks) were estimated from fMRI and PET, respectively, at baseline. Covariates included baseline age, APOEε4 carrier status, years of education, adjusted gray matter volume, head motion, study group, cumulative treatment exposure, and cognitive test version.
Results
Mixed effects models revealed that functional connectivity of the left frontoparietal control network moderated the negative effect of Aβ on cognitive change (p =.025) such that stronger connectivity was associated with reduced Aβ-related cognitive decline.
Conclusions
Our results demonstrate a potential protective effect of functional connectivity in preclinical AD, such that stronger connectivity in this network is associated with slower Aβ-related cognitive decline.
Abstract Dental surgery generally causes stress and fear, which may affect patient physiology and increase perioperative anxiety. Dental anxiety is considered to be an important factor in determining ...the need for intravenous sedation. One of the gold standards for measuring preoperative anxiety is Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The authors have previously assessed preoperative anxiety using STAI and recommended that intravenous sedation be performed for patients whose anxiety level is high. The intravenous cannulation necessary for sedation and sedation itself may increase anxiety. The authors carried out this study to examine whether planning intravenous sedation before surgery increases preoperative anxiety. The subjects were patients who planned to undergo wisdom teeth extraction under local anaesthesia in the authors’ hospital. They were divided into two groups on the basis of the planned intravenous sedation. STAI scores were compared between the initial visit and just before surgery. There were no significant differences in the state and trait anxiety scores between the initial visit and the day of the surgery in the two groups. Planned intravenous sedation based on the evaluation of anxiety levels using STAI is effective for promoting a safe operation without aggravating preoperative anxiety.
The multiferroic nature of GaFeO3 has been examined by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy in applied magnetic field. The spectra were analyzed as superposition of three subspectra corresponding to Fe3+ ions ...on Fe1, Fe2, and Ga2 sites. The quadrupole coupling constants e2qQ/2 are about twice of the calculated values, which may be partially due to the spin-orbit interaction. At 4.2 K, e2qQ/2 of Fe1 and Fe2 sites increase noticeably when the magnetic field is applied along the c-axis. This is suggestive of the displacement of Fe ions toward -b direction. On the other hand, the increase of e2qQ/2 is not observed when the magnetic field is applied along the b-axis. These features seem to be related to the toroidal moment. An increase of hyperfine field of Fe1 site is observed when the magnetic field is applied. This may be also related to spin-orbit interaction.
At least three recurrent chromosomal translocations, t(11;18)(q21;q21), t(1;14)(p22;q32), t(14;18)(q32;q21), involving the API2-MALT1 fusion protein, BCL10 and MALT1, have been implicated in the ...pathogenesis of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Several lines of evidence indicated that both BCL10 and MALT1 are required for nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappaB) activation by antigen receptor stimulation in lymphocytes, and API2-MALT1 can bypass this BCL10/MALT1 signaling pathway. Nuclear factor kappa B activation may contribute to antiapoptotic effect through NF-kappaB-mediated upregulation of apoptotic inhibitor genes. We recently demonstrated that API2-MALT1 can induce transactivation of the API2 gene through NF-kappaB activation, thus highlighting a positive feedback-loop mechanism of self-activation by upregulating its own expression in t(11;18) MALT lymphomas. We also demonstrated that API2-MALT1 possesses an antiapoptotic effect, in part, through its direct interaction with apoptotic regulators. These findings therefore led us to hypothesize that the antiapoptotic effect by API2-MALT1 may be mediated by its interaction with apoptotic regulators, on the one hand, and by NF-kappaB-mediated upregulation of apoptotic inhibitor genes on the other. We also found that BCL10 and MALT1 are shuttling between nucleus and cytoplasm, and that MALT1 can regulate the subcellular location of BCL10.
The effects of neutron irradiation on F82H ferritic/martensitic stainless steel and its model alloys were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The microstructural damage mechanisms of these alloys, ...during the void incubation period were interpreted using the short range order (SRO) parameters. Results show that within Fe–8Cr alloy, the atoms in the nearest neighbor (NN) of the Fe nuclei were inhomogeneous, prior to irradiation. A configuration trapping model of Cr supported the negative average SRO observed for the NN shells in our Fe–Cr alloys. We found that irradiation also accelerated the SRO in Fe–8Cr through a diffusion mechanism, where Cr atom repulsion was concentration dependent. Finally, comparative studies were conducted on F82H model alloys using the present Mössbauer measurements and our previously reported work on positron annihilation spectroscopy, which further established that irradiation of the alloys promoted the growth of a M23C6 complex.
