The Cognitive Avoidance Questionnaire (CAQ) is a self-reported measure relating to multidimensional cognitive avoidance. Prior research has supported its correlated five-factor model, however, the ...tenability of a bifactor model and its measurement invariance have not been examined. With a Chinese adolescent sample (
N
= 734), a bifactor model of the CAQ, comprising a general cognitive avoidance and five orthogonal urge-related domain-specific factors, was supported. Multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis showed strict measurement invariance (including configural, metric, scalar, and error invariances) across genders but only configural invariance across grades. Predominately the general factor was positively correlated with worry, depression, anxiety, and stress. This study suggests that general and distinct factors should be considered to properly contextualize cognitive avoidance in adolescents.
Diarrhea is a major source of morbidity and mortality among young children in low-income and middle-income countries. Human adenoviruses (HAdV), particular HAdV species F (40, 41) has been recognized ...as important causal pathogens, however limited data exist on molecular epidemiology of other HAdV associated with acute gastroenteritis.
In the present preliminary study, we performed a case-control study involving 273 children who presented diarrheal disease and 361 healthy children matched control in Children's hospital of Hebei Province (China) to investigate the relationship between non-enteric HAdV and diarrhea. HAdV were detected and quantified using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and serotyped by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Odds ratio (OR) was used to assess the risk factor of HAdV.
HAdV were detected in 79 (28.94%) of 273 children with diarrhea including 7 different serotypes (HAdV 40, 41, 3, 2,1,5 and 57) with serotypes 40, 41 and 3 being the most dominant and in 26 (7.20%) of 361 healthy children containing 9 serotypes (HAdV 40, 41, 3, 2,1,5,57,6 and 31). A majority (91.14%) of HAdV positives occurred in diarrhea children and 65.38% in controls< 3 years of age. No significant difference in the viral load was found between case and control groups or between Ad41-positive patients and healthy controls. In addition to HAdV 40 and 41, HAdV 3 was also associated with diarrhea (OR = 17.301, adjusted OR = 9.205, p < 0.001).
Our results demonstrate a high diversity of HAdV present among diarrhea and healthy children and implicate that non-enteric HAdV3 may lead to diarrhea.

Obesity has become a global pandemic. Identification of key factors in adipogenesis helps to tackle obesity and related metabolic diseases. Here, we show that DDB1 binds the histone reader BRWD3 to ...promote adipogenesis and diet-induced obesity. Although typically recognized as a component of the CUL4-RING E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, DDB1 stimulates adipogenesis independently of CUL4. A DDB1 mutant that does not bind CUL4A or CUL4B fully restores adipogenesis in DDB1-deficient cells. Ddb1+/− mice show delayed postnatal development of white adipose tissues and are protected from diet-induced obesity. Mechanistically, by interacting with BRWD3, DDB1 is recruited to acetylated histones in the proximal promoters of ELK1 downstream immediate early response genes and facilitates the release of paused RNA polymerase II, thereby activating the transcriptional cascade in adipogenesis. Our findings have uncovered a CUL4-independent function of DDB1 in promoting the transcriptional cascade of adipogenesis, development of adipose tissues, and onset of obesity.

Obesity has become a global pandemic. Wang et al. show that DDB1 is a potential therapeutic target. By interacting with the histone reader BRWD3 and positive transcription elongation factor b, DDB1 promotes transcriptional initiation of adipogenesis, development of adipose tissues, and onset of diet-induced obesity.
Thirteen undescribed dammarane triterpenoid saponins (cypaliurusides A–M), including eleven seco-dammarane type triterpenoids, were isolated from Cyclocarya paliurus. Each of these compounds has the ...unique feature of having a monosaccharide attached to C-11, rather than C-12, compared to the same type of saponins found in this plant. The structures of them were determined by comprehensive analysis of 1D, 2D NMR and HRESIMS data. Cypaliuruside J showed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory effect with IC50 value of 2.22 ± 0.13 μM. In addition, Cypaliurusides F and K exhibited modest cytotoxic activities against selected human cancer cell lines in vitro, with IC50 values ranging from 4.61 ± 0.13 to 15.23 ± 3.88 μM.

Human infection with the novel avian-origin influenza A (H7N9) virus has aroused global concern. In this report, the clinical characteristics of 111 laboratory-confirmed cases in China are presented.
...On March 30, 2013, three patients with fatal cases of rapid, progressive pneumonia were confirmed to be infected with a novel avian-origin influenza A (H7N9) virus that had not been detected in humans and animals previously.

The new human H7N9 viruses are the product of reassortment of viruses that are of avian origin.
Global attention was soon focused on the situation because of the increasing number of new cases and the high rate of death associated with these infections.

sample, due to the noticeable decrease in the lattice thermal conductivity by introducing point defect, which is further confirmed by an analysis based on the Debye–Callaway–Klemens model. Meanwhile, the thermoelectric power factor is maintained at high temperatures. This work highlights the important role of point defect in improving the thermoelectric performance of CoSbS-based compounds.
Functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is one of the most common heart valve diseases in diabetes and may increase left ventricular (LV) preload and aggravate myocardial stiffness. This study aimed to ...investigate the aggravation of FMR on the deterioration of LV strain in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and explore the independent indicators of LV peak strain (PS).
In total, 157 T2DM patients (59 patients with and 98 without FMR) and 52 age- and sex-matched healthy control volunteers were included and underwent cardiac magnetic resonance examination. T2DM with FMR patients were divided into T2DM patients with mild (n = 21), moderate (n = 19) and severe (n = 19) regurgitation. LV function and global strain parameters were compared among groups. Multivariate analysis was used to identify the independent indicators of LV PS.
The T2DM with FMR had lower LV strain parameters in radial, circumferential and longitudinal direction than both the normal and the T2DM without FMR (all P < 0.05). The mild had mainly decreased peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR) compared to the normal. The moderate had decreased peak systolic strain rate (PSSR) compared to the normal and PDSR compared to the mild and the normal. The severe FMR group had decreased PDSR and PSSR compared to the mild and the normal (all P < 0.05). Multiple linear regression showed that the regurgitation degree was independent associated with radial (β = - 0.272), circumferential (β = - 0.412) and longitudinal (β = - 0.347) PS; the months with diabetes was independently associated with radial (β = - 0.299) and longitudinal (β = - 0.347) PS in T2DM with FMR.
FMR may aggravate the deterioration of LV stiffness in T2DM patients, resulting in decline of LV strain and function. The regurgitation degree and months with diabetes were independently correlated with LV global PS in T2DM with FMR.

A selective invitation: A 2D hydrogen‐bonded porous network formed by an azobenzene derivative (NN4 A) contains two different types of cavities and is shown to selectively accommodate fullerenes C80 ...and Sc3N§C80 (see picture). Highly ordered fullerene arrays are constructed at the liquid–solid interface of graphite by coadsorption of fullerenes and NN4 A. While C60 occupies both types of cavity, C80 and Sc3N§C80 are only immobilized in one cavity type.
