This article reports on the findings of an evaluation project that explored the impact of rapid response teams from the perspective of the nurses who use them-to give voice to the experience of ...nurses.
Interviews with 56 staff nurses were analyzed, using thematic analysis, to describe the impact of rapid response teams on staff nurses' practice; the nurses' perspectives on what constitutes a successful rapid response team; their experiences before, during, and after activating a rapid response team; and the challenges they encountered when rapid response teams were used.
Nurses described rapid response teams as quickly bringing needed resources to patients and, when necessary, facilitating patients' transfer to ICUs. They especially appreciated the ability to gather these resources with a single phone call. Nurses also expressed profound relief that rapid response teams were available to expedite patient care; this was so important that some stated they wouldn't work in a facility that didn't have a rapid response team. Successful rapid response systems were described as those in which nurses activated the team without hesitation when they felt it was needed. Challenges to successful use of rapid response teams included mixed messages from leadership about when to activate the team and the need for nurses who were themselves on a rapid response team to leave their patients in order to respond to an activation.
Despite some limitations, this evaluation provides much-needed insight into the effects of rapid response teams on nurses' work environment. Further research is needed to explicate how having a successful rapid response team influences nurse recruitment and retention, as well as how such teams affect patient outcomes.

This article reviews the research report, Marijuana Exposure Among Children Younger Than Six Years in the United States (), and, using a case study approach, applies the findings to advanced practice ...registered nurses. B. extracted data from the National Poison Data System showing an increasing trend in marijuana exposure in children, especially in states where marijuana has been legalized for either medicinal use or recreational use. Advanced practice registered nurses need to be comfortable recognizing and managing marijuana intoxication in the pediatric population, as well as educating parents in providing safe environments for their children.
During the course of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, there has been a drive for ambulatory medical teams to develop ‘virtual COVID-19 wards’ to enable safe care at home for people ...with COVID-19 and support prioritization of hospital beds for those most in need; and this form of care is likely to continue to expand. Patients were not screened for VTE but underwent investigations (CT pulmonary angiogram and whole leg ultrasound Doppler) if clinical suspicion: 37 patients were imaged at initial presentation, and 18 patients following acceptance by the virtual ward with median time to re-presentation and imaging of 4 days (IQR 2–10). OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of an online module for reducing insulin administration errors by nurses caring for hospitalized pediatric patients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Pediatric ...nursing staff completed a mandatory online educational module teaching insulin pharmacokinetics and the insulin order form, using diluted insulin and finishing with 15 interactive cases. A chart audit to determine all possible insulin errors of patients receiving insulin was done before and 2-6 months after the educational module. RESULTS: All of the medical center's 283 pediatric nurses successfully completed the educational module. A total of 24 charts were audited in the preintervention phase and 22 in the postintervention phase. The preintervention insulin error rate was 14.8%, reduced to 1.7% (P < 0.001) postintervention. Improvement occurred in correct insulin dosing and type, timing of administration, and timely blood glucose monitoring and documentation. CONCLUSIONS: An interactive online educational module can be an effective strategy for reducing pediatric nurses' insulin administration errors.
The Research to Practice column is intended to improve the research critique skills of the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) and the emergency nurse (RN) and to assist with the translation of ...research into practice. This column focuses on assessing risks of suicide in adolescents and young adults, using as a basis for the discussion a recently developed suicidality screening tool (L. M. ).

Review of recent evidence with translation to practice for the role of advanced practice registered nurses is presented using a case study module for the following: "What is known about Outcomes of ...Patients with Low Back Pain? The study results showed that patients with low back pain may have substantial continuing pain and functional limitations. The implications and clinical relevance of these findings for advanced practice nurses are discussed highlighting best evidence.
