Objective: To determine the prevalence of coronary artery disease in patients undergoing valve surgery for rheumatic heart disease between age 40-50 years, usefulness, and indication of pre-operative ...coronary angiography. Methods: This is an observational prospective study that took place in 2 hospitals (National Heart Institute and Nasser Institute) within the period starting from January 2013 to January 2015. We included 454 rheumatic patients that were admitted for elective primary mitral, aortic or double valve surgery, and that had a coronary angiogram in their regular preoperative workup. All coronary angiographies were performed by injecting right and left coronaries by using 80-100 ml of iodinated contrast to obtain the standard views of both right and left coronaries using Philips or Siemens machines in both hospitals. Coronary artery disease (CAD) of 50% is considered to be a positive finding. Results: There was no correlation between rheumatic heart disease in this age group and CAD as only 1.76% had the significant stenosis. Male gender, family history of CAD, age above 45yrs, hypertension, and smoking showed significant correlation with the CAD in this study. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the overall prevalence of coronary artery disease in patients undergoing rheumatic valve surgery in our population is not comparable with the prevalence reported in international data. So, multicenter studies are needed in developing countries to set their own guidelines. Therefore, our study can be the nucleus for these guidelines in our country.
BACKGROUND Cardiac tumors are quite rare, and differential diagnosis of them is challenging. CASE REPORT A young lady with a history of palpitations, dyspnea, and fatigue was proven by transthoracic ...echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging to have a mobile left ventricular mass with rounded contour attached to the mid-part of the interventricular septum. The mass was approached via a posterior inter-atrial approach to avoid left ventriculotomy and provide adequate exposure to completely excise the tumor and control its pedicle with minimal cardiac trauma. Histological examination of the mass was diagnostic of capillary and sinusoidal hemangioma. CONCLUSIONS Complete excision of cardiac hemangioma is recommended once it is diagnosed, for histopathologic diagnosis and because of the possibility of serious complications.
Polymers are supposed to resist cavitation erosion more than metals; however, products fabricated using additive manufacturing have different behavior. In this paper, Polylactic Acid (PLA) fabricated ...using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) was tested in a constraint environment of cavitation erosion. Test specimens were fabricated in layer thickness of 0.3 mm on MakerBot 3D printer. Cavitation erosion experiments were con- ducted using a vibratory cavitation device. The results revealed that the specimens resist cavitation erosion more than that of metals. This can be interpreted and attributed to simultaneous contributors such as porosity, damping effect, water absorption, and roughness. The variation of roughness and morphology with time were verified this result. We increased the test time for several hours; however, we observed a hump formed on the induced area. This hump can be interpreted because of separation of the top layer of the specimen due to shock waves and pitting.

Background: Different techniques, including conservative therapy and a fasciocutaneous rotation flap, are utilized to treat pilonidal sinus illness. This study's objective was to assess the ...effectiveness of "de- epithelialization technique" as a novel method for managing pilonidal sinus condition. Patients and Methods: Forty patients with pilonidal sinus illness who had de-epithelialization therapy were assessed. Age, gender, BMI, number of operations, length of hospital stays, visual analog scale scores, complications, and recurrent rates for each patient was assessed. Results: In this research, there were 37 male patients and 3 female patients. The patients' average age was 26.52 years, and their average BMI was 24.58. The average procedure lasted 63.23 minutes, and the majority of patients were released the same day. Healing times for wounds ranged from 9 to 14 days. Two individuals with high body mass indices had wound dehiscence and infection. Post-operative hematoma was found in only one patient. Throughout the follow-up period, no patient had seromas or a recurrence. Conclusion: With satisfactory cosmetic results and recurrence rates, "de-epithelialization" may be used in conjunction with other therapies for pilonidal sinus illness. Keywords: De-epithelialization, flap, natal cleft, pilonidal sinus disorder, sacrococcygeal area.
