In this letter, a dilating and embedding scheme for constructing sparse multiple‐input and multiple‐output radar arrays is addressed, which seeks to increase the uniform degrees of freedom (uDOFs) ...and reduce the mutual coupling effects for a given number of transmitters and receivers (Tx/Rx). According to this scheme, a dilated maximum inter‐element spacing constraint (MISC) array with an embedded thinned coprime array in the collocated MIMO radar for DOA estimation is proposed. Theoretical analysis shows that the proposed array can provide higher uDOFs and is robust in a scenario with heavy levels of mutual coupling. Numerical simulations are conducted to validate its aforementioned advantages in line with the design scheme.

Edible bilayer films prepared using an additional of zein (Z) layer casted on the corn-wheat (CW) starch films were prepared and characterized in terms of colour, thickness, water ...content, optical, water vapour permeability (WVP), mechanical properties and antioxidative capacity. Results showed that the colour, thickness, water content, elongation at break (E), and antioxidative capacity increased with the increasing of zein addition, but WVP and tensile strength (TS) decreased. In comparison with biaxially oriented polypropylene polyethylene composite films (BOPP-PE), CW10/Z3 and CW8/Z3 even showed better antioxidative capacity and elongation at break (E). The surface and cross-section micrographs were imaged by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). On both of SEM and AFM images, CW10/Z1 and CW10/Z2 films exhibited smoother surface and more compacted structure than other films. Besides, CW10/Z3 and CW8/Z3 of SEM images showed the better cross-section. Therefore, CW/Z edible bilayer films could be potentially used as a new inner package material for oil bag in instant food to improve the development of food industry.
The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) achieved a great leap forward with the development of imatinib, a BCR-ABL kinase inhibitor. Alterations in the chemical structure of the inhibitor have ...produced agents that are more potent in vitro. In these studies, two new second-generation BCR-ABL kinase inhibitors, nilotinib and dasatinib, are compared with imatinib; these new drugs produce more complete responses and do so faster than imatinib. Both also appear to reduce the rate of progression to accelerated-phase and blast-phase disease.
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in the chronic phase, a clonal myeloproliferative disorder, is caused by the constitutively active BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase resulting from the translocation that produces the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome.

Abstract
Sparse arrays with sensors can offer number of degrees of freedom by exploiting the difference co‐array that can be obtained from the second‐order statistics of received signals. In this ...article, a novel sparse array with seven subarrays (SA‐7S) by carefully assembling the subarrays is proposed, and the resulting SA‐7S can generate a hole‐free uniform difference co‐array. The sensor locations of the SA‐7S array are uniquely determined by a closed‐form expression and the number of achievable degrees of freedom is analytically presented as well. Theoretical analysis shows that the SA‐7S can provide a higher number of degrees of freedom than most sparse linear arrays. Simulations are performed to validate the advantage of the proposed array in terms of uDOFs, mutual coupling and direction of arrival estimation performance.
This letter deals with blind spatial diversity equalization and combination of sparse channels. The equalization and combination problem of multiple signals is modeled as the maximum likelihood ...estimation of frequency domain symbol sequence from incomplete observations, and solved by means of the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. Closed-form expression of the equalization output is obtained, which shows that the complicated problem of signal equalization and combination in multipath channels is converted to the weighted summation of each discrete-frequency signals, eliminating the need of complicated maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) or de-convolution demanded by time domain equalization. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enables evident performance improvement in terms of symbol error rate especially at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values and short signal lengths compared with a typical scheme.
This letter deals with frequency domain equalization (FDE) in the presence of residual timing offsets. A novel iterative decision feedback equalizer for single-carrier FDE systems is proposed. ...Different from conventional schemes based on explicit point time-delay estimates, the proposed scheme operates directly on the oversampled matched filter output. For each iteration, FDE is performed first, and based on which, joint posterior distribution of the channel and timing parameters is obtained. A set of weights obtained from the corresponding posterior distribution, rather than explicit point time-delay estimate, are utilized for the time-delay compensation, eliminating the need of fine timing synchronization. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enables evident performance improvement in terms of symbol error rate compared with conventional schemes under relative low sampling rate.
This multicenter, randomized trial assessed the efficacy and safety of a recombinant human thrombopoietin (rhTPO) in patients with persistent primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who had failed ...glucocorticosteroid treatment. A total of 140 eligible patients were randomized to receive rhTPO + danazol (rhTPO group, 73 patients) or danazol (control group, 67 patients) alone. During the first phase, the increase in the mean maximal platelet counts (101.2 × 10
9
/L) and the area under curve (749.6) in the rhTPO group were significantly higher compared to control (33.3 × 10
9
/L and 316.2;
P
= 0.0060 and 0.0000, respectively). The major response rate (MRR) and total response rate (TRR) in the rhTPO group were 38.4 and 60.3 %, respectively, significantly higher than in control (MRR 7.9 %,
P
= 0.0003; TRR 36.5 %,
P
= 0.0104). In the control group, 45 patients with platelet counts <20 × 10
9
/L were given rhTPO during the second phase and achieved MRR 31.1 % and TRR 66.7 %. The mean platelet counts in the rhTPO group were still approximately 50 × 10
9
/L on day 28 of the study. The overall incidence of rhTPO-related adverse events was 13.6 %. All the adverse events were generally mild. This study demonstrated that rhTPO was well tolerated, and it markedly increased platelet counts in chronic ITP patients. Stimulation of platelet production by rhTPO may provide a new therapeutic option for patients with ITP.
This letter deals with symbol sequence detection of multi-receiver signals based on the maximum-likelihood (ML) criterion. A novel iterative scheme is proposed to estimate the symbols without ...synchronization or alignment of timing and phase. Instead of the accurate delay compensation and optimal samples recovery, the detection of symbols employs the direct calculation of the matched filter outputs, eliminating the need for separate synchronizer and combiner. Since the received samples at each branch are viewed as incomplete observations, the joint ML estimation of symbols can be obtained in an iterative way by means of the expectation-maximization algorithm. The proposed scheme is compared with conventional signal combining schemes and joint ML synchronizers by simulation results. It is shown that the proposed detector enables significant improvement on the bit-error rate for weak received signals.
Poor physical function is strongly associated with mortality and poor clinical outcomes in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Handgrip strength (HGS) is an important index for physical ...function in the general population, and the association between HGS and CKD is worth investigating.
From September to November 2015, we conducted a cross-sectional study consisting of 10,407 participants in Jurong City, China. Age-related and sex-specific HGS percentile curves were constructed using the GAMLSS method. In addition, logistic regression was applied to estimate the association between HGS and the presence of CKD with odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs).
Participants with low HGS tended to be older and were more likely to have CKD (8.73 %). Smoothed centile curves of HGS showed a similar shape in both sexes: participants peaked at approximately 20-35 years old and gradually decreased after the age of 50. In addition, independent of age and other factors, the decreased presence of CKD was significantly identified in individuals with moderate (OR: 0.64, 95 % CI: 0.49-0.83) and high HGS (OR: 0.37, 95 % CI: 0.23-0.58).
We concluded that HGS was significantly negatively associated with CKD in Chinese community-dwelling persons.
Abstract
Asian patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) tend to have different characteristics compared with patients from other regions, including younger age and smaller body size. The phase 3, ...open-label, randomized DASISION trial (NCT00481247), comparing dasatinib 100 mg once daily (QD) (n = 259) with imatinib 400 mg QD (n = 260) in newly diagnosed chronic phase CML (CML-CP), included a sizeable East Asian population (n = 60: dasatinib; n = 48: imatinib). In East Asian patients, dasatinib showed favorable 24-month rates of major molecular response (68% vs. 50% for imatinib) and complete cytogenetic response (92% vs. 88%), and more patients achieved BCR-ABL1 transcript levels ≤ 10% at 3 months with dasatinib (91% vs. 69%), similar to the overall population. Relative to non-East Asian patients, the incidence of rash, fluid-related events and grade 3/4 neutropenia and thrombocytopenia appeared to be higher in East Asians, regardless of treatment. Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed statistically non-significant increased dasatinib exposure among East Asian patients. Results support the use of dasatinib 100 mg QD as first-line CML treatment in both East Asian and non-East Asian patients.
