In the past few years, a wealth of sample-specific network construction methods and structural network control methods has been proposed to identify sample-specific driver nodes for supporting the ...Sample-Specific network Control (SSC) analysis of biological networked systems. However, there is no comprehensive evaluation for these state-of-the-art methods. Here, we conducted a performance assessment for 16 SSC analysis workflows by using the combination of 4 sample-specific network reconstruction methods and 4 representative structural control methods. This study includes simulation evaluation of representative biological networks, personalized driver genes prioritization on multiple cancer bulk expression datasets with matched patient samples from TCGA, and cell marker genes and key time point identification related to cell differentiation on single-cell RNA-seq datasets. By widely comparing analysis of existing SSC analysis workflows, we provided the following recommendations and banchmarking workflows. (i) The performance of a network control method is strongly dependent on the up-stream sample-specific network method, and Cell-Specific Network construction (CSN) method and Single-Sample Network (SSN) method are the preferred sample-specific network construction methods. (ii) After constructing the sample-specific networks, the undirected network-based control methods are more effective than the directed network-based control methods. In addition, these data and evaluation pipeline are freely available on https://github.com/WilfongGuo/Benchmark_control.

In this article we propose a new paradigm of resource-efficient edge computing for the emerging intelligent IoT applications such as flying ad hoc networks for precision agriculture, e-health, and ...smart homes. We devise a resource-efficient edge computing scheme such that an intelligent IoT device user can well support its computationally intensive task by proper task offloading across the local device, nearby helper device, and the edge cloud in proximity. Different from existing studies for mobile computation offloading, we explore the novel perspective of resource efficiency and devise an efficient computation offloading mechanism consisting of a delay-aware task graph partition algorithm and an optimal virtual machine selection method in order to minimize an intelligent IoT device's edge resource occupancy and meanwhile satisfy its QoS requirement. Performance evaluation corroborates the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed resource-efficient edge computing scheme.
In this paper, the performance data are processed using direct discretization in a steady-state stochastic process, and the flute performance white noise signal is transported through a linear ...transfer function to form a performance complex conjugate according to the indeterminate value of the power spectral density input music data. The envelope function is uniformly modulated to form a mixed Gaussian fit to the performance data to simulate the distribution of the performance frequency situation, combined with a closed-loop model to count the flute performance signal-to-noise ratio loss. The results show that the steady-state stochastic process reduces the time required for music performance classification by 1.18 seconds, and the pitch accuracy is 89%. Through the steady-state stochastic process, we can better understand performance, comprehend the integration of technique and emotion, and enhance our understanding of flute performance.

We investigate false vacuum decay catalysed by black holes under the influence of the higher order Gauss-Bonnet term. We study both bubble nucleation and Hawking-Moss types of phase ...transition in arbitrary dimension. The equations of motion of “bounce” solutions in which bubbles nucleate around arbitrary dimensional black holes are found in the thin wall approximation, and the instanton action is computed. The headline result that the tunnelling action for static instantons is the difference in entropy of the seed and remnant black holes is shown to hold for arbitrary dimension. We also study the Hawking-Moss transition and find a picture similar to the Einstein case, with one curious five-dimensional exception (due to a mass gap). In four dimensions, we find as expected that the Gauss-Bonnet term only impacts topology changing transitions, i.e. when vacuum decay removes the seed black hole altogether, or in a (Hawking-Moss) transition where a black hole is created. In the former case, topology changing transitions are suppressed (for positive GB coupling
α
), whereas the latter case results in an enhanced transition.
The inner structure of realistic materials make them exhibit momentum relaxation. In this paper we study the Joule-Thomson effect on AdS black holes in which translational invariance is broken by two ...methods: First by considering planar black holes in general relativity supported by scalar fields with a linear dependence on the horizon coordinates and secondly by considering black holes in massive gravity models in which momentum relaxation is obtained by breaking the bulk diffeomorphism invariance of the theory. In contrast with black holes studied so far, for both theories it is possible to obtain inversion curves with two branches reproducing the behavior of Van der Waals fluids. Moreover in the specific case of the massive gravity model we show that black holes can heat up when crossing the inversion curve.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment have the potential environmental risks and resource value simultaneously. So the product recycling is very important. This paper studies on recycling ...problems of WEEE under the third-party recycling in a closed-loop supply chain. We take the following measures. Firstly, based on classifying the WEEE, we consider a revenue sharing and cost sharing contract as the coordination mechanism. Secondly, under centralized and decentralized decisions, we use the game analysis technology to determine the optimal pricing and profits, respectively. Finally, we conduct the number simulation to illustrate and validate the proposed models and provide managerial insights. The results show that when retailers sell new and second-hand products simultaneously, consumers become more sensitive to recycling prices, the profits of manufacturers, recyclers and CLSC increase. However, the retailers' profits decline.
Polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) foam as one of next‐generation polymer foam materials shows poor surface adhesion and limited functionality, which greatly restricts its potential applications. ...Fabrication of advanced PDMS foam materials with multiple functionalities remains a critical challenge. In this study, unprecedented self‐adhesive PDMS foam materials are reported with worm‐like rough structure and reactive groups for fabricating multifunctional PDMS foam nanocomposites decorated with MXene/cellulose nanofiber (MXene/CNF) interconnected network by a facile silicone foaming and dip‐coating strategy followed by silane surface modification. Interestingly, such self‐adhesive PDMS foam produces strong interfacial adhesion with the hybrid MXene/CNF nano‐coatings. Consequently, the optimized PDMS foam nanocomposites have excellent surface super‐hydrophobicity (water contact angle of ≈159o), tunable electrical conductivity (from 10−8 to 10 S m−1), stable compressive cyclic reliability in both wide‐temperature range (from −20 to 200 oC) and complex environments (acid, sodium, and alkali conditions), outstanding flame resistance (LOI value of >27% and low smoke production rate), good thermal insulating performance and reliable strain sensing in various stress modes and complex environmental conditions. It provides a new route for the rational design and development of advanced PDMS foam nanocomposites with versatile multifunctionalities for various promising applications such as intelligent healthcare monitoring and fire‐safe thermal insulation.

A giant electrocaloric effect (ECE) near room temperature is reported in a lead‐free bulk inorganic material. By tuning Ba(ZrxTi1–x)O3 compositions which also exhibit relaxor ferroelectric response ...to near the invariant critical point, the Ba(ZrxTi1–x)O3 bulk ceramics at x ∼ 0.2 exhibit a large adiabatic temperature drop of 4.5 K, a large isothermal entropy change of 8 J kg−1 K−1, and a large EC coefficient (|ΔTc/ΔE| = 0.52 × 10−6 KmV−1 and ΔS/ΔE = 0.93 × 10−6 J m kg−1 K−1 V−1) over a 30 K temperature range. These properties added together indicate a general solution of the electrocaloric materials with high performance for practical cooling applications.
A giant electrocaloric effect (ECE), i.e., a large adiabatic temperature drop (ΔTc) with a high electrocaloric coefficient (ΔTc/ΔE), is demonstrated in a modified lead‐free ferroelectric ceramic, BaTiO3, over a broad temperature range near the invariant critical point (ICP). Multiphase coexistence near ICP provides a larger entropy change compared with that of a pure ferroelectric–paraelectric transition. When coupled with the relaxor behavior, this leads to the observed giant ECE in BZT (x = 0.2) over a broad temperature range
High‐throughput sequencing methods have facilitated the identification of novel selenoproteins, which exert a vital role in the development and progression of tumor diseases. Recently, Selenoprotein ...M (SELM) is upregulated in several types of cancer. However, the biological roles of SELM in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remain unclear. In this paper, quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT‐PCR) and Western blot were used to measure relative levels of SELM in a cohort of RCC tissues with matched normal tissues as well as human RCC cell lines. SELM expression was found to be upregulated in RCC. High level of SELM was related to poor prognosis of RCC. Furthermore, silence of SELM could inhibit the in vitro proliferative, migratory, and invasive capacities of RCC. In addition, downregulated SELM could impede in vivo tumorigenesis of RCC. SELM could activate the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and mediate expressions of matrix metallopeptidase 2 and 9 (MMP2, MMP9). In conclusion, our study reveals the oncogenic function of SELM in RCC, and SELM may be a therapeutic and prognostic target for RCC.

Fidelity mechanics is formalized as a framework for investigating critical phenomena in quantum many-body systems. Fidelity temperature is introduced for quantifying quantum fluctuations, which, ...together with fidelity entropy and fidelity internal energy, constitute three basic state functions in fidelity mechanics, thus enabling us to formulate analogues of the four thermodynamic laws and Landauer’s principle at zero temperature. Fidelity flows, which are irreversible, are defined and may be interpreted as an alternative form of renormalization group flows. Thus, fidelity mechanics offers a means to characterize both stable and unstable fixed points: divergent fidelity temperature for unstable fixed points and zero-fidelity temperature and (locally) maximal fidelity entropy for stable fixed points. In addition, fidelity entropy behaves differently at an unstable fixed point for topological phase transitions and at a stable fixed point for topological quantum states of matter. A detailed analysis of fidelity mechanical-state functions is presented for six fundamental models—the quantum spin-1/2 XY model, the transverse-field quantum Ising model in a longitudinal field, the quantum spin-1/2 XYZ model, the quantum spin-1/2 XXZ model in a magnetic field, the quantum spin-1 XYZ model, and the spin-1/2 Kitaev model on a honeycomb lattice for illustrative purposes. We also present an argument to justify why the thermodynamic, psychological/computational, and cosmological arrows of time should align with each other, with the psychological/computational arrow of time being singled out as a master arrow of time.
