Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) has been conducting research on development of advanced terrestrial broadcasting technology to transmit ultra-high definition television (UHDTV) signals and other ...high capacity content. To analyze the transmission characteristics of the proposed system, we designed an experimental modulator and demodulator, and measured its characteristics through laboratory experiments. We also evaluated the proposed system via large-scale field trials in conditions similar to those of actual broadcast propagation environments. In this paper, we present the results of the laboratory experiments and the field trials.
The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Anemia (FACT-An) was developed to measure the effect of anemia on quality of life (QOL) in cancer patients. We have previously validated the Japanese ...version of the FACT-An in Japanese cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or radiation therapy. That analysis was limited to evaluating the relationship between QOL scores and hemoglobin (Hb) levels. In this study, the data were further analyzed in order to identify factors that affect QOL. The mean Hb level of the patients was unchanged over three months. Patient age, Eastern Oncology Group Performance Status (ECOG-PS) score, Hb level, and the type of treatment method received were each predictive factors of a patient's FACT-An score at baseline, while the patient's Hb level at three months and whether the patient had received a blood transfusion were both predictive factors of a patient's FACT-An score at three months. Anemia consistently negatively affected the QOL of cancer patients measured over a three-month period. These results confirm the clinical effectiveness of the FACT-An as a tool to assess anemia-related QOL in Japanese cancer patients.

In general, the BER (Bit Error Rate ) performance of LDPC codes have a waterfall region ...and an error floor It is difficult to evaluate the BER performance in the error floor region because of the huge amount of the computation. In order to evaluate it , we conducted the laboratory experiment using the prototype modulator and demodulator in which LDPC codes are implemented. This paper reports that the BER performance in the error floor region is under BER= 1.0×10^-7.

As the results of the experiments, the required C/N degradation of “Next Generation Terrestrial Broadcasting System” became smaller than that of ISDB-T.
