The paper explores contemporary challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence and its influence on theological-anthropological reflection. The main idea is oriented to the analysis of the transhumanist movement with its promises of cybernetic immortality and the enhancement of the human species. Starting from some characteristics of that movement, the author analyses its implications for Christian anthropology. The paper is divided into three parts. The first chapter, »Some characteristics of the transhumanist era«, analyses transhumanism as a transhumanism as a melioristic philosophy in which the Promethean challenge can be easily recognized. The second chapter entitled »Artificial intelligence and/for a new understanding of man« explains the monistic and dualistic approach to human reality and seeks to answer the question of whether a machine can think. The issue of dataism as the belief that organisms are algorithms that can be controlled is highlighted here. The power of data would lead to the supremacy of artificial intelligence that is attributed with divine properties. The third chapter, »Man’s creation in the image of God versus the creation of artificial intelligence in man’s image« deals with the key theological-anthropological question about man’s value and specificity. Various interpretations of man’s creation in the image of God are firstly explored, followed by an analyses of the sense in which artificial intelligence can be considered as a creation in man’s image. The concluding part brings some theological thoughts, at the centre of which is the danger of idolatry and the question of the inviolable dignity of man.
One of the challenges that Christian theology is faced with, especially from its ethical perspective, is certainly the process of deconstructing concepts. Among such concepts, let us mention the concept of culture that is no longer understood in its original meaning as care for the creature – including man. A technocratic culture is born in which man ceases to be a subject of technology, and technology ceases to be a power in the service of man but becomes a key factor in anthropological and social transformation. Various scientific and cultural movements take the leading role and lead the process of cultural and anthropological metamorphosis. Far from it that we should oppose these two instances – theology and technology, we are called to establish and promote dialogue and to discover how creation continues today in technological culture, and how theology can contribute to technological development as a new form of cultural expression.
The cultural environment in which an individual lives and grows up undoubtedly shapes the relationship to God, religiosity, and faith, and it has a certain influence on the creation of an image of ...God. The encounter of another religion, especially from the Western culture, with the domestic cultural environment can cause admiration or an attitude of caution or rejection, but also the possibility of partial acceptance of its values. Such reaction elements can easily be observed in the so-called mission countries that accept the novelty of the Christian message. With the aim of examining the perception of the influence of the cultural environment on understanding and perceiving God, religiosity and faith, a survey was conducted among 1062 young believers in the West African state of Benin.
The article is divided into three parts. In the first part, entitled »Biblical Foundations of the Discourse on Jesus as the Servant«, the author analyses Jesus’s understanding of his own mission as the one who, although having power, decides to serve. The special character of that power manifests itself precisely through Diakonia. The second part, entitled »Jesus as the Suffering Servant« analyses synthetically the Old Testament discourse on the suffering servant of Jahve, whose description coincides in many ways with the event of Jesus Christ, the Anointed One in whom every kind of suffering, especially the kind associated with pandemics, although still remaining mysterious, gains a new perspective. The third part, entitled »Co-Suffering and Com-Passion: Some Theological-Ethical Emphases«, attempts to actualize the Christian view on the mystery of evil and the character of Jesus as a co-sufferer, who suffers from a human being through his consoling presence and solidarity. Reflection on this logic of Jesus prompted the author to start developing a theology of compassion in the context of the current pandemics. The emphasis is, therefore, put on the understanding of human suffering in light of the Paschal event, whose logic opposes every form of colorism and helps one understand the value of life beyond earthly-temporal boundaries.
The paper analyses various metaphysical and eschatological implications of transhumanism, especially in the light of its idea of the immortality of the human species. Through a concise interpretation ...of the historical framework of the emergence of the transhumanist movement, the paper highlights its main features such as human improvement, overcoming human nature, and overcoming inherent human deficiencies using modern scientific disciplines and modern technologies. Those features help understand metaphysics and eschatology as formed by some aspects of transhumanism. These aspects are unquestionably technological and secular in their principles, as they distance themselves from the religious understanding of human longing and death. Often, death is understood as a mistake, while the process of ageing is seen as a pathological, humiliating but curable condition. Transhumanism thus marks the end of the humantranscendental perspective of a free individual, created by the goodness of God and saved by the love of God, through the mystery of Jesus Christ. The paper argues that technocratic solutions cannot fulfil fundamental human longings.
Suvremeni razvoj biomedicine i tehnologije brže i bolje nego prije donosi nova otkrića koja će znatno poboljšati pristup zdravlju živih bića.
Modern development of biomedicine and technology faster and better than before brings new discoveries that will significantly improve access to the health of living beings. One of those discoveries is the CRISPR-Cas9 tool which brought scientists the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. With this tool, it is possible precise genome editing and this opens the possibilities of manipulating life all the way to the risk of »production« of genetically modified people. This article seeks to concisely present the main principles of that tool and its therapeutic applications to a living organism. Ethical challenges reveal the danger of biomodification through the ability to design future children, and this restores, not only eugenics, but also the desire to transcend the human.
Ecological crisis which is affecting the whole world has been further exacerbated by the health crisis caused by Covid-19. In this double crisis it is difficult to separate one crisis from another. Awareness of the connections between seemingly different crises, but also awareness of connection between all being on earth, has been recognized in 19th century with attemps to find joint responses of different scientific disciplines. These attemps later have been called One Health. That is the paradigm that seeks to expose the interaction between human, animals and plants and their impact on each other. This article provides insight into the key features of this paradigm, and with the help of the biblical theology of creation and the encyclical of Pope Francis Laudato sì, expands visions of One Health to the field of theological-bioethical thinking with the purpose of a more comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to common health in the common home.

To nameće novu paradigmu u dijaloškom procesu.
On scientific-technological scene more and more are talked about presence or arrival of a new type of intelligence, and that is so-called artificial intelligence that will allegedly overcome the human intelligence. Therefore, many are in pursuit for redefining the term of person to justify the presence of a »new kind of human« among us. Such kind of phenomenon imposes a new paradigm in dialogical process. It is about a new phenomenon that will surely impact on interpersonal relationships, and which the Second Vatican Council is implicitly talking in Pastoral constitution on the Church in the modern world Gaudium et spes. The Holy See itself, especially Pope Francis, in several cases touched this theme and consequences that carries such new shape of dialogue between human and the machine with emphasis on advantage of human over the machine. In this way, we will be able to avoid self-destruction, predominance and superiority of what we have created with our own hands.
Ovdje transhumanističko self-made-man načelo pokazuje instrumentalni i idealizirajući odnos subjekta prema vlastitom tijelu.
Mnogi crkveni mislioci stoga surazvili razne ...teorije povezane s regulacijom ratnih akcija kao štoje pravedni rat, zakonita obrana i nuklearno odvraćanje. Te teorijeu okrilju crkvenog nauka valja shvatiti u povijesnom kontekstunjihova razvoja i geopolitičkih zbivanja trenutka. Suvremenieksponencijalni razvoj tehnologija primijenjen u industrijama zaproizvodnju oružja znatno otežava mogućnost ostvarenja mira zakojim čeznu svi narodi i svaki pojedinac.
In its moral doctrine the Catholic Church has always hadin mind the humanitarian consequences caused by any war, regardless of the reason for which it was waged. Many churchthinkers have therefore developed various theories related to theregulation of war actions such as just war, legitimate defence, and nuclear deterrence. In the context of church doctrine thesetheories should be understood in the historical context of theirdevelopment, but also within the geopolitical events of themoment. The contemporary exponential development of technologiesapplied in the arms production industries makes it muchmore difficult to achieve the peace that all nations and everyindividual long for. Using various theological and philosophicalsources, the author explains the theory of just war through hiswork, starting with St. Augustine, Thomas Aquinas to churchteaching. The focus is on the production of weapons, the positionof Christians in that production, questioning its ethics startingfrom the Second Vatican Council to Pope Francis. Special attentionis paid to the mentality of technicism that provokes variouspeace and ethical challenges. Concrete application of some ethicalprinciples, such as the sources of the morality of human act,the double-acting act, the principle of non-contradiction, emphasizesthe need for education for non-violence and the disarmamentof human hearts.
