Abstract
The performance of I/O intensive applications is largely determined by the organization of data and the associated insertion/extraction techniques. In this paper we present the design and ...implementation of an application that is targeted at managing data received (upto ~ 150 Gb/s payload throughput) into host DRAM, buffering data for several seconds, matched with the DRAM size, before being dropped. All data are validated, processed and indexed. The features extracted from the processing are streamed out to subscribers over the network; in addition, while data resides in the buffer, about 0.1 ‰ of them are served to remote clients upon request. Last but not least, the application must be able to locally persist data at full input speed when instructed to do so. The characteristics of the incoming data stream (fixed or variable rate, fixed or variable payload size) heavily influences the choice of implementation of the buffer management system. The application design promotes the separation of interfaces (concepts) and application oriented specializations (models) that makes it possible to generalize most of the workflows and only requires minimal effort to integrate new data sources. After the description of the application design, we will present the hardware platform used for validation and benchmarking of the software, and the performance results obtained.

The Condition Database plays a key role in the CMS computing infrastructure. The complexity of the detector and the variety of the sub-systems involved are setting tight requirements for handling the ...Conditions. In the last two years the collaboration has put a substantial effort in the re-design of the Condition Database system, with the aim at improving the scalability and the operability for the data taking starting in 2015. The re-design has focused on simplifying the architecture, using the lessons learned during the operation of the Run I data-taking period (20092013). In the new system the relational features of the database schema are mainly exploited to handle the metadata (Tag and Interval of Validity), allowing for a limited and controlled set of queries. The bulk condition data (Payloads) are stored as unstructured binary data, allowing the storage in a single table with a common layout for all of the condition data types. In this paper, we describe the full architecture of the system, including the services implemented for uploading payloads and the tools for browsing the database. Furthermore, the implementation choices for the core software will be discussed.
Conditions data infrastructure for both ATLAS and CMS have to deal with the management of several terabytes of data 1, 2. Distributed computing access to this data requires particular care and ...attention to manage request-rates of up to several tens of kHz. Thanks to the large overlap in use cases and requirements, ATLAS and CMS have worked towards a common solution for conditions data management with the aim of using this design for data-taking in Run 3. In the meantime other experiments, including NA62, have expressed an interest in this cross-experiment initiative. For experiments with a smaller payload volume and complexity, there is particular interest in having simple payload storage. The conditions data management model is implemented in a small set of relational database tables. A prototype access toolkit consisting of an intermediate web server has been implemented, using standard technologies available in the Java community. Access is provided through a set of REST services for which the API has been described in a generic way using standard Open API specifications, implemented in Swagger. Such a solution allows the automatic generation of client code and server stubs and further allows changes in the backend technology transparently. An important advantage of using a REST API for conditions access is the possibility of caching identical URLs, addressing one of the biggest challenges that large distributed computing solutions impose on conditions data access, avoiding direct DB access by means of standard web proxy solutions.
Changes in confidence in implementing smoking cessation support for pregnant women was assessed among Romanian General Practitioners (GPs) before and after a training program of evidence-based ...clinical practices to promote quitting. The total number of physicians participating in the study was 69. Before training, 51% of GPs felt somewhat/very confident asking pregnant women about tobacco use, 39% assisted smokers with a quit plan, 38% arranged follow-up for patients. After training, 85–90% found the training informative/very informative on: how to ask patients if they smoke (89%), advising patients to quit (88%), talking about the benefits of quitting (85%), assessing patients readiness to quit (87%), assisting patients in setting a quit date (87%).
Introduction A personality disorder is a sustainable pattern of perception, cognition and relationship with the environment and one's person, pervasive, maladaptive and inflexible, affecting ...important areas of the individual's life functioning. Specialized studies in the field describe a high rate of heritability of the personality disorders and the importance of these parent personality disorders in the development of the child, including the development of psychopathology. Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency and type of personality disorder in parents of children with psychiatric pathology and to identify a relationship between personality disorders in parents and internalizing/externalizing problems in children. Materials and methods The study was conducted on two groups of 30 children and their parents, the first batch of children with internalizing problems and the second with children with externalizing problems, hospitalized in the Pediatric Psychiatry Clinic from Cluj-Napoca during April-September 2011. We used as instruments for assessment the psychiatric interview, SCID-II and CBCL. Data processing was done with SPSS version 17. Results We revealed a relationship between the avoidant, obsessive-compulsive, schizoid and depressive personality traits of the parents and psychiatric disorders in children. Conclusions Personality disorders are relatively common among parents of children with psychiatric diagnosis. For these reasons therapeutic relationship and plan for children should be made by taking into account the presence of the personality disorder of the parent.
Introduction The impact of raising a child with autism on parents' quality of life (QOL) is not yet fully understood. Studies have shown that parents of children with autism have lower QOL than ...general population and that theirs QOL is influenced by the level of child functioning impairment, the received social support and by the use of maladaptive coping mechanisms. Objectives To evaluate the QOL of the families of children with autism compared with that of families of children diagnosed with ADHD. Aims To analyze the factors which influence the QOL of these families. Method We used data from 60 children, aged between 2 and 18 years, diagnosed with ASD or ADHD, according to DSM IV-TR and ICD-10 and their parents. Tests were administered to assess the presence of autism symptoms, the symptoms of internalization / externalization and the parents’ emotional regulation mechanisms. FQOLS (Family Quality of Life Survey) was used to assess the subjects and their families’ quality of life. Results The areas with the lowest scores in terms of FQOL were the financial status, the support from others and the support from services. These results were similar for the families of children with ASD and ADHD. The level of parental distress was associated with the level of child internalizing problems. Conclusion By understanding how the FQOL is affected by these disorders, the needs of the children with developmental disorders and their families will be better recognized and healthcare and support services would be appropriately developed.
Introduction Currently there are no developed theories supported by evidence on the emotion role in development and psychopathology. By elucidating the psychological and biological mechanisms ...involved in the occurrence of anxiety disorders in children, effective programs for prevention and early intervention can be developed. Objectives To investigate the emotion regulation strategies in children diagnosed with anxiety disorders and their parents compared with healthy ones. Aims To examine the relationship between the emotion regulation mechanisms and the presence of psychopathology. Methods Data were obtained from 45 children aged 10–18 years diagnosed with anxiety disorders according to DSM IV-TR and healthy subjects, comparable in age and sex. For diagnostic procedures, assessment of internalizing/externalizing symptoms and anxiety disorders we used specific standardized psychometric instruments. Results The group of children diagnosed with anxiety disorder showed an increased frequency and intensity of emotional reactivity with intense negative emotions, reassessment use deficits in negative emotional situations and self efficiency, frequent use of avoidance strategy, the use of cognitive coping strategies significantly less adaptive as response to adverse events (e.g. high scores on catastrophe and rumination strategies and low scores on positive reassessment). Conclusions The description of the mechanisms by which external or internal variables influence the appearance of the anxiety disorders can contribute to the identification of the anxiety etiological models. Changing the regulation and emotional reactivity pattern can have important clinical implications, particularly therapeutic. Preliminary results of the studies on the therapy that includes the emotional component effectiveness are positive for both children and adults.

Objective The study's objective was to evaluate the cognitive coping strategies used by children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders, and to observe how these strategies influence the peers relations. Aims The study aims were to identify the non-adaptive cognitive coping strategies and to identify which of them is more used by bullied or victimized children or adolescents. Methods Participants. Data was obtained from children aged 11 to 18 years of age, diagnosed with anxiety disorders, according to DSM IV-TR and healthy subjects comparable in age and sex. Instruments. We used three questionnaires: Youth Self Report, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Peers Relations Questionnaire. Results The children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders use more frequently non-adaptive cognitive coping strategies than the healthy children and they are more frequently bullied or victimized by their peers. Conclusions It is important to teach children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders how to use adaptive emotion regulation strategies in order to have a better social life and better academic results.
Introduction Juvenile delinquency represents a broad term to identify behaviors that vary from engaging in status offenses (eg running away from home, school absenteeism, alcohol consumption) up to ...engage in criminal acts and violence (use/distribution of illegal substances, burglary, robbery). (Montgomery & colab., 2001) Objectives Identifying personality disorders in delinquent adolescents. Aims This paper aimed to determine if juvenile deliquency is related to personality disorders and a set of risk factors. Method We used a lot of 30 patients, aged 14–18 years, subjected to forensic examination at the Child Psychiatry Clinic of Cluj-Napoca during 2011. To assess personality disorders we used SCID II - structured interview to identify personality disorders on axis II-DSM and a set of questions related to the origin area, socioeconomic status, education level, family environment, consumption of toxic, belonging to certain social groups, family history,were adressed to the adolescents and their parents. To assess intellectual coefficient were used Raven Progressive Matrices. Results The most common personality disorders found in delinquent teenagers were borderline personality disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder and traits of antisocial personality disorder. We couldn't identify a statistically significant relationship between the family environment, the socioeconomic status, the presence of a concurrent psychiatric disorder, the consumption of toxic, the education level and juvenile deliquency. Conclusions Because juvenile delinquency represents a real social problem is important to identify underlying traits or personality disorders in order to establish individualized and specific treatment plans.
