A=170–190 mainly in neutron evaporation channels. Measured absolute transmission values from around 7% up to round about 90% have been observed for very asymmetric and symmetric reactions, respectively. For the reactions studied it was observed that the angular spread of products after the target and the angular acceptance of RITU determine the transmission probability relatively accurately. Magnetic rigidities and equilibrium charges of the product ions were seen to systemically decrease and increase, respectively, with increasing gas pressure. The comparison of observed equilibrium charges to various formulae is carried out. Clear minima of image width were found in case of asymmetric reactions as a function of gas pressure. Effects of the position of an additional movable beam stopper and the field strength of the first quadrupole magnet on transmission have been studied and are reported.
The electromagnetic character of the ΔI=1 transitions connecting the 1- to 0-phonon and the 2- to 1-phonon wobbling bands should be dominated by an E2 component, due to the collective motion of the ...entire nuclear charge. In the present work it is shown, based on combined angular correlation and linear polarization measurements, that the mixing ratios of all analyzed connecting transitions between low-lying bands in 135Pr interpreted as 0-, 1-, and 2-phonon wobbling bands, have absolute values smaller than one. This indicates predominant M1 magnetic character, which is incompatible with the proposed wobbling nature. All experimental observables are instead in good agreement with quasiparticle-plus-triaxial-rotor model calculations, which describe the bands as resulting from a rapid re-alignment of the total angular momentum from the short to the intermediate nuclear axis.

Two new bands have been identified in 137Nd from a high-statistics JUROGAM II gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment. Constrained density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations are used ...to assign configurations and investigate the band properties, which are well described and understood. It is demonstrated that these two new bands can be interpreted as chiral partners of previously known three-quasiparticle positive- and negative-parity bands. The newly observed chiral doublet bands in 137Nd represent an important support to the existence of multiple chiral bands in nuclei. Overall, the present results constitute the missing stone in the series of Nd nuclei showing multiple chiral bands, which becomes the most extended sequence of odd-even and even-even nuclei presenting multiple chiral bands in the Segre chart.
The extremely neutron-deficient isotopes 177,179Au were studied by means of in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy. Specific tagging techniques, α-decay tagging in 177Au and isomer tagging in 179Au, were used ...for these studies. Feeding of positive-parity, nearly spherical states, which are associated with 2d3/2 and 3s1/2 proton-hole configurations, from the 1i13/2 proton-intruder configuration was observed in 177Au. Such a decay path has no precedent in odd-Au isotopes and it is explained by the effect of mixing of wave functions of the initial state.

state. This work builds on a method that combines the charge plunger technique with the DDCM analysis. As an alternative analysis, ions were selected in coincidence with the

Pt alpha decay (
E
alpha
=
5.458

)
MeV) at the focal plane. Lifetime information was obtained by fitting a two-state Bateman equation to the decay curve with the lifetime of individual states defined by a single quadrupole moment. This yielded a lifetime value of 430(50) ps for the
2
1
+
state, and 54(6) ps for the
4
1
+
state. An analysis method based around the Bateman equation will become especially important when using the charge plunger method for the cases where utilising coincidences between prompt
γ
rays and recoils is not feasible.
The rotational band structure of the Z=104 nucleus (256)Rf has been observed up to a tentative spin of 20ℏ using state-of-the-art γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. This represents the first such ...measurement in a superheavy nucleus whose stability is entirely derived from the shell-correction energy. The observed rotational properties are compared to those of neighboring nuclei and it is shown that the kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia are sensitive to the underlying single-particle shell structure and the specific location of high-j orbitals. The moments of inertia therefore provide a sensitive test of shell structure and pairing in superheavy nuclei which is essential to ensure the validity of contemporary nuclear models in this mass region. The data obtained show that there is no deformed shell gap at Z=104, which is predicted in a number of current self-consistent mean-field models.
High-spin states of the odd–odd

Bi nucleus have been studied by means of nuclear spectroscopy for the first time. Two low-lying rotational bands were observed. The positive-parity band built on a ...short-lived isomeric state 633 keV above the

) state is assigned a

configuration, while the other band is attributed to the
π
h

/
2
⊗
ν

configuration. Both of these bands are assumed to have oblate shape. Three band-like structures composed predominantly of
Δ
I
=
1
transitions were also found. One of the shears band candidates is firmly linked to the lower lying level structures whereas for the other two links to lower-lying structures remain missing.
Excited states have been identified in the heaviest known even-ZN=84 isotone 158W, which lies in a region of one-proton emitters and the two-proton drip line. The observation of γ-ray transitions ...feeding the ground state establishes the excitation energy of the yrast 6+ state confirming the spin-gap nature of the α-decaying 8+ isomer. The 8+ isomer is also expected to be unbound to two-proton emission but no evidence for this decay mode was observed. An upper limit for the two-proton decay branch has been deduced as b2p≤ 0.17% at the 90% confidence level. The possibility of observing two-proton emission from multiparticle isomers in nearby nuclides is considered.
