Stomatocysts of the rare heterotrophic chrysophyte, Paraphysomonas caelifrica, were discovered from a shallow ephemeral pond Tavolgasai (“Orenburgskiy” State Nature Reserve, Orenburg Region, Russia). ...Morphology of stomatocysts was studied using scanning electron microscopy. Stomatocysts of P. caelifrica are spherical and smooth with a cylindrical collar surrounding the regular pore. So, they do not belong to the stomatocyst 1 Duff and Smol as previously thought. The description of a new stomatocyst morphotype is provided.
We dedicate the publication of a fragment of the fictionalized autobiography of Lyudmila Andreevna Yamshchikova-Dmitrieva (1893‒1978), “Aktrisa” (“The Actress”), to her memory and her 130th ...anniversary. Another forgotten name that did not continue the ancestral branch of its famous ancestors Rokotov and Tolstoy. She left no descendants, was a dramatic actress and writer, made a certain contribution to Russian historical prose for young people in the first half of the 20th century and memorably served the theater, playing the main roles in plays of classical and modern repertoire. According to the memoirs of the playwright V.S. Rozov, who personally knew Lyudmila Andreevna and her mother, Margarita Vladimirovna Yamshchikova (1872‒1959), known in literature under the pseudonym Al. Altaev, Lyudmila shone on the provincial stage for about thirty years, quietly, imperceptibly died within the walls of the Leningrad House of Veterans of the Scene, named after her unforgettable teacher M.G. Savina. In literature, Lyudmila Andreevna performed under the pseudonym Art. Felice: that was the name of the “Ovod” (“Gadfly”) in the novel of the same name by E. Voynich, wrote books from the history of England, Italy, and the Netherlands, small biographies for children about great scientists, inventors, was a co-author of her mother in several works. The manuscript “Aktrisa” (“The Actress”), a fragment of which is offered to readers, has two copies. They are kept in the Altaev Memorial Fund (Coll. 1370) and in the fund of the Altaev Literary Memorial Museum, which is located in the village of Lositsy in the Plyussky district of the Pskov region, in the former Log estate. Lyudmila Yamshchikova herself did not intend for the manuscript “The Actress” to be published, but for those who are engaged in the history of the Russian provincial theater, this material will be very useful both in historical and research terms.
The investigations of angiotropic effects of liraglutide are an issue of significant scientific and practical interest. The successful application of liraglutide has been shown in glycemic control in ...patients with the type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), but the effect of liraglutide in patients with type 1 DM has not been completely studied yet in clinical practice. Therefore, the present study is aimed to investigate the effect of liraglutide which is agonist of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptors, on microcirculation in white outbred rats with the alloxan-induced diabetes.
The study was performed with 70 white outbred rats, divided into 4 groups: 1) control group (intact animals (Control)); 2) comparison group (diabetes mellitus (DM)) - animals with the alloxan-induced diabetes; 3) experimental group no. 1 (liraglutide low dose (LLD)) – animals with the alloxan-induced diabetes, which were injected by liraglutide at dosage of 0.2 mg/kg of animal weight per a day; 4) experimental group no. 2 (liraglutide high dose (LHD)) - animals with the alloxan-induced diabetes, which were injected by liraglutide at dosage of 0.4 mg/kg of animal weight per a day. The carbohydrate metabolism disorders, the microcirculation of posterior paw skin, as well as the concentration of catecholamines and markers of endothelial alteration in blood were estimated at the 42nd day of the experiment in the comparison and experimental groups.
It was found that the correction of carbohydrate metabolism by liraglutide is succeeded by the normalization of skin perfusion of posterior paw skin of the experimental animals. Recovery of microcirculation is associated with a decrease in vascular tone and stimulation of endothelium-dependent vasodilation, caused by simultaneous decrease of catecholamines, endothelin-1 and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) concentrations in blood serum. At the same time, the administration of liraglutide on the background of insulin-deficiency results in decrease of endothelial cell alteration markers concentration in blood, such as sE-selectin, syndecan-1, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
Administration of liraglutide leads to the normalization of the carbohydrate metabolism simultaneously with the correction of microcirculation in rats with the absolute insulin deficiency. The demonstrated recovery of microcirculation by liraglutide, which represents an analogue of glucagon-like peptide-1, provides new prospects for its approval as a potential drug for pathogenetic correction of microcirculatory disorders in patients with the type 1 DM.
•Angioprotective effect of liraglutide was studied in rats with absolute insulin deficiency.•Liraglutide leads to microcirculation normalization due to skin perfusion recovery and endothelium-protective effect.•Liraglutide leads to normalization of glucose and HbA1c levels in rats with absolute insulin deficiency.•Endothelium-protective effect of liraglutide allows for therapy of type 1 diabetes complicated with endothelial disfunction.
This paper is devoted to the study of the flora of silica-scaled chrysophytes in water bodies of the steppe zone of the Southern Urals (Russia). Twenty-four taxa were identified via scanning and ...transmission electron microscopy, twenty of which are representatives of the genus Mallomonas Perty, while four are species of the genus Synura Ehrenberg. In the course of the study, a species new to science from the genus Mallomonas, M. baturinae sp. nov., was described. This species belongs to the section Papillosae. The stomatocyst of M. doignonii was described. For the first time in Russia and for the third time since description, M. phasma and M. solea-ferrea var. irregularis were reported in the studied area. Here, their extended description is provided with illustrations of their scales in detail. Some rare taxa for the flora of Russia have been identified: M. doignonii, M. pillula f. exannulata, and M. pillula f. valdiviana. One taxon of the genus Mallomonas has not been identified to a species level and is probably a taxon new to science.
The first data about the algae flora of the water bodies of the “Aschisayskaya Steppe” plot of the State Nature Reserve “Orenburgsky” are presented. 217 species and intraspecies taxa of microalgae ...belonging to the phyla Chlorophyta, Euglenozoa, Bacillariophyta, Ochrophyta, Streptophyta, Miozoa and Cyanobacteria were found in five reservoirs of the plot. New species for the territory of the Orenburg Region, as well as rare species for Russia are noted, their characteristics and micrographs are given. The obtained data expands the current understanding of the range of the identified taxa.
Bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus are inhabitants of the surfaces of human mucous membranes, such as the oral cavity, digestive and urogenital tracts. Moreover, there is evidence that they are ...found in breast milk and sputum. In view of the many genetic differences, metabolic abilities and other functions of the species included in this genus, a revision of the classification of the genus Lactobacillus is proposed in 2020. Recently, in the scientific medical literature, the issues related to the influence of lactobacilli on the human microbiome, maintaining health and preventing pathological conditions of the body have been actively discussed. This review is devoted to the functional characteristics and analysis of the species diversity of Lactobacillus spp. circulating in various body systems, their participation in the formation and regulation of defense mechanisms. However, negative impacts are also noted, most often associated with the transfer of genetic determinants of resistance to antimicrobial drugs from lactobacilli to gram-negative microbiota.
The algal flora of 7 water bodies of Orenburg forest-steppe Trans Volga region protected areas was studied. 193 species and intraspecific taxa of algae belonging to 7 phyla, 12 classes, 30 orders, 57 ...families and 109 genera were identified. According to the results of a saprobiological analysis studied water bodies and streams are characterized as xeno-, oligo-, and β-mesosaprobic, grades 1-3 of quality, from extremely pure to satisfactory purity. In some water bodies (pond on the Zhmakovsky creek – natural monument «Kuzminka creek with tributaries^ and pond of the natural monument «Aksakov’s park»), disturbances in the stability of ecosystems and various stages of eutrophication were recorded. The data obtained indicate the need for strict compliance with the restrictions already provided for these natural monuments and the use of more effective protection measures to restore ecosystems and improve water quality within the studied objects.

The aim of the research was to conduct an in-depth analysis of the investigation of chlamydial infections occurred in cats and dogs in Kyiv during the last 10 years. The article includes three main ...directions of investigation: 1) The analysis of the epizootic situation with chlamydiosis; 2) Microbiological investigation and 3) Serological monitoring. The clinical and epizootiological studies of chlamydiosis of dogs and cats have been looked into, with the focus on differences and similarities in age and sex of diseased animals. We have investigated 3334 animals (1351 dogs and 1983 cats), including 721 animals (107 dogs and 614 cats) with the manifestation of clinical signs specific to chlamydia. During the investigation 11 isolates of
Chlamydia
spp. were obtained from the infected animals. Additionally, immune and biological peculiarities have been analyzed. Due to serological monitoring within the epizootiological uncontrolled experiment, a satisfactory level of protection of cats (63%) vaccinated against chlamydiosis has been reached, as well as the possibility of the persistence of the pathogen in unvaccinated animals (9%).
