This article questions the ability of the resistance framework to explain local communities' political reactions to oil palm expansion. Guided by a translation and ethnographic framework, this study ...investigates the Modang Dayak community's political reaction from below to large-scale land acquisitions in upland East Kalimantan. It shows that, based on their knowledge and everyday life practice, the Modang Dayaks have the agency to negotiate the land scarcity that has accompanied oil palm expansion. This study contributes to reaction theory by arguing that livelihood diversification is a form of political translation used to negotiate the difficulties created by palm oil; as land has become increasingly scarce, the Modang Dayaks have redefined their relationship with it. This reality tends to be ignored in political science debates because researchers generally view political reactions through a resistance paradigm. Ultimately, however, the politics of translation go beyond the politics of resistance.
A large part of the uplands in East Kalimantan has been converted to oil palm plantations through partnership schemes, making it increasingly difficult for the indigenous Dayak people to find land ...for swidden agriculture. Therefore, a better understanding of partnership discourses and narratives is needed. This article adopts a Foucauldian perspective on truth regimes and ethnographic methods to examine the Indonesian government's strategy to expand state space for oil palm expansion in Dayak customary lands in East Kalimantan. This article argues government strategies need to be formulated by involving a robust analysis of the circular power-knowledge relationship. This perspective allows an understanding of partnerships at the discourse level, i.e., as an extension of power, not just stories about community empowerment behind the invisible hands of capitalism. Oil palm partnerships are a temporary policy structure as it confronts another power‐knowledge configuration: the Dayak community. Within this framework, customary practices are not static but are redefined continuously. In the uplands of East Kalimantan, oil palm agribusiness partnership policies often result in subjugating, disqualifying, and marginalizing practices. This article also investigates the implications of the formation of oil palm truth regimes.
The community service aims to increase the capacity of Universitas Qamarul Huda Badaruddin (UNIQHBA) lecturers in processing and analyzing science education research data using STATA Software. The ...method of community service was used for interactive training for two weeks with the Zoom application for 37 lecturers from UNIQHBA. To determine the participants' ability to use the STATA software, practice processing and data analysis were carried out using a science education case study guide provided by the facilitator. The evaluation was carried out at the end of the training to get participants' responses through online questionnaires that were then analyzed descriptively. The results of this community service were that as many as 89.32% of the participants were able to complete the practice correctly based on the assignments given, 89.74% of the presentations given by the facilitator were clear and easy to understand and will use STATA for the processing and analysis of their research data because it was easy to use. Most of the participants recommended further training using the STATA Software.
Students need for qualified Islamic education is strongly influenced by the implementation of a systematic, programmed, and measurable learning management. This study aims to describe the ...implementation of learning management in improving the quality of Islamic education for students at MTsN 2 Langkat. This empirical study follows a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical study method. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation analysis. The implementation of learning management can improve the quality of Islamic education for students at MTsN 2 Langkat. Improving the quality of education can be seen from the following aspects: (1) learning planning that involves all parties during the deliberation/meeting at the Madrasah, (2) the implementation of learning carried out in the Madrasah (inside and outside the classroom) as well as the tahfiz al-Qur'an program and the congregational Dhuha prayer; (3) learning supervision carried out systematically with academic and managerial supervision from the Ministry of Religion in the district and the Head of the Madrasah; (4) learning evaluation carried out in written, in worship practice and orally every semester.
This study reported the staging of process on developing a mobile application for real-time data management information system on monitoring and feedback in early childhood education, it can help ...tracking child care and education and assist teacher in monitoring and feedback on child services. A study was carried out to gather necessary information through data mapping, in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, document reviews, application development, direct entry in the field using mobile development, application testing and analysis that was conducted on for 253 respondents. To obtain a full picture on early childhood education, data on child growth and education shall be mapped and linked in one application. We introduce a mobile app to systematically compile the individual as well as group data across different aspects of child life, ranging from child education. Using a tablet PC or mobile phone, data could be easily entered at any time by the person. Due to still poor infrastructure at the grass root level, the system also allows a safety store offline that could automatically link to server when network connection is available. The immediate data entry will provide real-time data report that could be accessed by any relevant stakeholders at any levels to response accordingly. However, to avoid misuse of data, the access will also be restricted with a secured login system. Based on the study, this application is easily applicable for real-time monitoring and evaluation on early child education.
Heading control of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) using Model Predictive Control (MPC) gives a good performance. Varying the length of the horizon provides a variety of performance. This paper ...is made in order to find out how many optimal horizons are needed to obtain the highest efficiency of energy use in AUV. Test results show a positive correlation between the length of the horizon and the amount of energy used. The optimal horizon obtained is then tested on several different trajectories.
The Mover Teacher Program (MTP), released in 2021, is widely regarded as a crucial measure towards achieving substantial transformations in the field of education in Indonesia. The present study aims ...to evaluate the effectiveness of the MTP in Sumbawa Besar City. Through this study, we sought evidence of lessons learnt from the field. To conduct the study, researchers employed a modified version of Kirkpatrick’s evaluation model. Three out of four postulates derived from the model were used to probe the phenomenon under investigation, i.e. (1) teachers’ reaction, (2) learning endeavor and (3) application of knowledge/skills gained. The fourth postulate regarding the assessment of students’ achievement was not included in the study as the MTP program just commenced in the research site. The study employed a qualitative research approach with a multiple-case design. Participants of this study were eight alumni of MTP teachers coming from four different schools. Data were collected through interviews, observations and study of related documents. The data collected were analyzed thematically through data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. Results of the study show that participants of the study benefitted from participating in the MTP program although they underwent various route of transformational learning. Regardless of disorienting problem in the beginning of the program implementation, participants were able to maintain their new skills and knowledge to improve their own teaching performance and other teachers in the impacted schools. The participants experienced transformation of learning and behavioral change after participating in the long and exhausting MTP program.
This study describes servant leadership in improving teacher performance and building student character at SMPN 7 Mataram. The research approach used is qualitative with the case study method. ...Interview techniques, observation, and documentation studies were used for data collection. Checking the validity of the data is done by testing credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The study results show that the servant leadership of school principals can improve teacher performance, especially in discipline, with several efforts, namely supervising, providing motivation and increasing specialisation, activating school MGMP activities, and holding workshops.
New Order Government tends to consider as zakat and tax liabilities are different. There is an exciting development in the era of reform with the passage of Act No. 38 of 1999 on the Management of ...Zakat and converted into Act 23 of 2011. It seems that the government has to have the desire to accommodate the charity as potential aspects to reduce taxes. Moreover, the idea of integrating the zakat and taxes in one more incentive system sounded. If this is true, the government may implement two points of maqâshid al-syarî’ah, namely hifzh al-dîn and hifzh al-mâl. DOI: 10.15408/ajis.v15i1.2841
