Leiomyomas of the deep soft tissue are extremely rare. We report a case of a deep soft tissue leiomyoma that was difficult to differentiate from a uterine leiomyoma. A 48-year-old woman was diagnosed ...with a uterine leiomyoma, but surgical and pathological findings revealed a deep soft tissue leiomyoma and normal uterus.
Microlensing can provide a useful tool to probe binary distributions down to low-mass limits of binary companions. In this paper, we analyze the light curves of eight binary-lensing events detected ...through the channel of high-magnification events during the seasons from 2007 to 2010. The perturbations, which are confined near the peak of the light curves, can be easily distinguished from the central perturbations caused by planets. However, the degeneracy between close and wide binary solutions cannot be resolved with a 3sigma confidence level for three events, implying that the degeneracy would be an important obstacle in studying binary distributions. The dependence of the degeneracy on the lensing parameters is consistent with a theoretical prediction that the degeneracy becomes severe as the binary separation and the mass ratio deviate from the values of resonant caustics. The measured mass ratio of the event OGLE-2008-BLG-510/MOA-2008-BLG-369 is q ~ 0.1, making the companion of the lens a strong brown dwarf candidate.
We first performed 3 or 4 courses of balloon-occluded arterial infusion (BOAI) chemotherapy in 19 patients with advanced cancer of uterine cervix classified as stage III-IV according to the ...International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. In the patients in whom the first BOAI resulted in insufficient drug accumulation in tumor tissue, the ovarian arteries and veins were ligated to improve the therapeutic effect. Ultimately simple total hysterectomy and radiotherapy were performed in 9 patients in whom the uterus was resectable (the combination group), and radiotherapy alone was conducted in the other 10 patients in whom hysterectomy was not practicable (the incomplete group). The survival rates were significantly higher in the combination group (2-year survival 88. 9%; 5-year survival 66.7%) than in the incomplete group (p=0.0013).
It has been widely recognized that the mucus coat of fish plays a variety of important physical, chemical, and physiological functions. One of the major constituents of the mucus coat is mucus ...glycoprotein. We found that sialic acids in the skin mucus of the loach, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, consisted predominantly of KDN. Subsequently, we isolated KDN-containing glycoprotein from loach skin mucus and characterized its chemical nature and structure. Loach mucus glycoprotein was purified from the Tris-HCl buffer extract of loach skin mucus by DEAE-cellulose chromatography, Nuclease P1 treatment, and Sepharose CL-6B gel filtration. The purified mucus glycoprotein was found to contain 38.5 KDN, 0.5% NeuAc, 25.0% GalNAc, 3.5% Gal, 0.5% GlcNAc and 28% amino acids. Exhaustive Actinase digestion of the glycoprotein yielded a glycopeptide with a higher sugar content and higher Thr and Ser contents. The molecular size of this glycopeptide was approximately 1/12 of the intact glycoprotein. These results suggest that approximately 11 highly glycosylated polypeptide units are linked in tandem through nonglycosylated peptides to form the glycoporotein molecule. The oligosaccharide alditols liberated from the loach mucus glycoprotein by alkaline borohydride treatment were separated by Sephadex G-25 gel filtration and HPLC. The purified sugar chains were analyzed b --> 6GalNAc-ol, KDNalpha2 --> 3(GalNAcbeta1 --> 14)GalNAc-ol, KDNalpha2 --> 6(GalNAcalpha1 --> 3)GalNAc-ol, KDNalpha2 --> 6(Gal3alpha1--> 3)GalNAc-ol, and NeuAcalpha2 --> 6Gal NAc-ol. It is estimated that one loach mucus glycoprotein molecule contains more than 500 KDN-containing sugar chains that are linked to Thr and Ser residues of the protein core through GalNAc.
In order to investigate the heavy fermion properties from a microscopic standpoint we have made
27Al and
63,65Cu NMR measurements on CeCu
8Al
9 and U
2Cu
8Al
9 for 1.3–200 K, with special interest to ...comparison between the Ce and the U compound. The
27Al relaxation rate
1/T
1 observed at 11 MHz (
H = 1T) in U
2Cu
8Al
9 showed a sharp peak at 2 K, but the peak reduced rapidly with increasing resonance field and disappeared entirely at 5 T. The peak of
1/T
1 at 2 K, coinciding with a cusp-like peak observed in the AC susceptibility, is attributed to the spin-glass-like ordering at 2 K. In a high field of 5 T,
1/T
1 was nearly constant above 4 K but decreased gradually below 3 K. The relaxation rate for
27Al in Ce
2Cu
8Al
9 heavy fermion material showed a similar temperature dependence as observed for 5 T in U
2Cu
8Al
9.
Amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, almost completely inhibited veratridine- or scorpion toxin-evoked efflux of endogenous dopamine (DA) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) from rat striatal ...slices without any effects of 30 mM K+ or 4-aminopyridine on basal and evoked efflux. The effects of amitriptyline on glutamate efflux were comparable to those on DA or GABA efflux. These effects of amitriptyline can be well explained by its blockade of voltage-dependent Na+ channels and may be independent of other activities of this drug such as re-uptake inhibition of monoamines and blockade of K+ channels.
