NACCHO supports local public health agencies across the country in their efforts to implement smoke-free workplace ordinances in their communities. As the national voice of local public health, ...NACCHO also strives to strengthen and improve the health of our nation's communities through the tobacco prevention and control project. NACCHO provides a variety of tobacco-related tools and resources through its Web site (www.naccho.org), including the Tobacco Prevention and Control Learner's Guide; Smoke-free Policy Guidelines, a series of fact sheets co-authored by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Association of Local Board of Health (NALBOH); the Model Practices Database; Program and Funding Guidelines for Comprehensive Local Tobacco Control Programs, a document outlining the 7 components of a good tobacco control program; resources on social justice; NACCHO's Foundation Funding Guide, an online resource for local public health associations looking for grants from foundations; and links to other organizations. NACCHO also works to influence the development of integrated tobacco-related policy initiatives and their enforcement at the national and local level.Featured in this issue of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice is an example of a success story of one of NACCHO's members in the area of smoke-free ordinances.
The optimization for selectivity and central receptor occupancy for a series of spirocyclic azetidine–piperidine inverse agonists of the ghrelin receptor is described. Decreased mAChR muscarinic M2 ...binding was achieved by use of a chiral indane in place of a substituted benzylic group. Compounds with desirable balance of human in vitro clearance and ex vivo central receptor occupancy were discovered by incorporation of heterocycles. Specifically, heteroaryl rings with nitrogen(s) vicinal to the indane linkage provided the most attractive overall properties.
The discovery of spirocyclic piperidine-azetidine inverse agonists of the ghrelin receptor is described. The characterization and redressing of the issues associated with these compounds is detailed. ...An efficient three-step synthesis and a binding assay were relied upon as the primary means of rapidly improving potency and ADMET properties for this class of inverse agonist compounds. Compound 10n bearing distributed polarity in the form of an imidazo-thiazole acetamide and a phenyl triazole is a unit lower in logP and has significantly improved binding affinity compared to the hit molecule 10a, providing support for further optimization of this series of compounds.
In this article, the authors describe innovative teaching techniques that create a learning environment addressing nonverbal and verbal communication. The use of these accelerated learning techniques ...in a Basic Cardiac Dysrhythmia Course is discussed, and participant learning is measured and analyzed. When these methods, including relaxation, music, and subliminal messages were used, participant exam grades improved. The authors concluded that these simple procedures enhance learning and increase the effectiveness of teaching.

ABSTRACT We report on Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) observations of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) associated with PSR B0355+54 (eight observations with a 395 ks total exposure, performed over an ...eight month period). We investigated the spatial and spectral properties of the emission coincident with the pulsar, compact nebula (CN), and extended tail. We find that the CN morphology can be interpreted in a way that suggests a small angle between the pulsar spin axis and our line of sight, as inferred from the radio data. On larger scales, emission from the ( pc) tail is clearly seen. We also found hints of two faint extensions nearly orthogonal to the direction of the pulsar's proper motion. The spectrum extracted at the pulsar position can be described with an absorbed power-law + blackbody model. The nonthermal component can be attributed to magnetospheric emission, while the thermal component can be attributed to emission from either a hot spot (e.g., a polar cap) or the entire neutron star surface. Surprisingly, the spectrum of the tail shows only a slight hint of cooling with increasing distance from the pulsar. This implies either a low magnetic field with fast flow speed, or particle reacceleration within the tail. We estimate physical properties of the PWN and compare the morphologies of the CN and the extended tail with those of other bow shock PWNe observed with long CXO exposures.
General Electronics for TPCs (GET) is a generic, reconfigurable and comprehensive electronics and data-acquisition system for nuclear physics instrumentation of up to 33792 channels. The system ...consists of a custom-designed ASIC for signal processing, front-end cards that each house 4 ASIC chips and digitize the data in parallel through 12-bit ADCs, concentration boards to read and process the digital data from up to 16 ASICs, a 3-level trigger and master clock module to trigger the system and synchronize the data, as well as all of the associated firmware, communication and data-acquisition software. An overview of the system including its specifications and measured performances are presented.
IntroductionThe negative impacts of COVID-19 have rippled through every facet of society. Understanding the multidimensional impacts of this pandemic is crucial to identify the most critical needs ...and to inform targeted interventions. This population survey study aimed to investigate the acute phase of the COVID-19 outbreak in terms of perceived threats and concerns, occupational and financial impacts, social impacts and stress between 3 April and 15 May 2020.Methods6040 participants are included in this report. A multivariate linear regression model was used to identify factors associated with stress changes (as measured by the Cohen’s Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)) relative to pre-outbreak retrospective estimates.ResultsOn average, PSS scores increased from low stress levels before the outbreak to moderate stress levels during the outbreak (p<0.001). The independent factors associated with stress worsening were: having a mental disorder, female sex, having underage children, heavier alcohol consumption, working with the general public, shorter sleep duration, younger age, less time elapsed since the start of the outbreak, lower stress before the outbreak, worse symptoms that could be linked to COVID-19, lower coping skills, worse obsessive–compulsive symptoms related to germs and contamination, personalities loading on extraversion, conscientiousness and neuroticism, left wing political views, worse family relationships and spending less time exercising and doing artistic activities.ConclusionCross-sectional analyses showed a significant increase from low to moderate stress during the COVID-19 outbreak. Identified modifiable factors associated with increased stress may be informative for intervention development.Trial registration numberNCT04369690; Results.
ABSTRACT We obtained six observations of PSR J1741-2054 using the Chandra ACIS-S detector totaling ∼300 ks. By registering this new epoch of observations to an archival observation taken 3.2 yr ...earlier using X-ray point sources in the field of view, we have measured the pulsar proper motion at in a direction consistent with the symmetry axis of the observed H nebula. We investigated the inferred past trajectory of the pulsar but find no compelling association with OB associations in which the progenitor may have originated. We confirm previous measurements of the pulsar spectrum as an absorbed power law with photon index Γ = 2.68 0.04, plus a blackbody with an emission radius of (4.5 km, for a DM-estimated distance of kpc and a temperature of 61.7 3.0 eV. Emission from the compact nebula is well described by an absorbed power law model with a photon index of Γ = 1.67 0.06, while the diffuse emission seen as a trail extending northeast of the pulsar shows no evidence of synchrotron cooling. We also applied image deconvolution techniques to search for small-scale structures in the immediate vicinity of the pulsar, but found no conclusive evidence for such structures.
