The authors consider the easternmost finds of toreutics of the "Hungarian style" from the archaeological sites of the Yudino culture of the forest Trans-Urals. An analysis of the materials showed ...that these products appeared in the Trans-Urals after the ancient Hungarians had migrated to the territory of the Carpathian basin. The "Magyar" group of items occured in the closed complexes of the Trans-Urals together with the imported items from the Upper Irtysh River region, Altai, the Upper Kama River region and the Southern Urals. Therefore, the authors assumed that the products of the "Hungarian style" got in the Trans-Urals at the end of the 9th–10th centuries as a result of trade relations. Most likely, the transfer of imports was not carried out directly from the Carpathian groups to the Trans-Urals, but through the mediation of the Eastern European population.
Community mental health centers (CMHCs) are important institutions for individuals with chronic mental illness. During the COVID-19 period, patients with mental health could not optimally access care ...in CMHCs.
To explore the experiences of patients using a CMHC after its closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was a descriptive qualitative study that included 16 patients with mental disorders who regularly used CMHCs during the pre-pandemic period. Their data were collected between March 2022 and August 2022 using face-to-face, in-depth semi-structured interviews. All interviews were recorded and the content analysis method was used to analyze the data.
The age range of the 16 study participants was 29-53 years with a mean age of 40.8 ± 6.5 years. Nine (56.3%) participants were men, and 7 (43.7%) were women. Ten (62.5%) participants had schizophrenia, whereas 6 (37.5%) had bipolar disorder. According to content analysis, the five main themes that emerged based on the statements of participants were the effects of change, difficulties experienced, support needs, coping experiences, and suggestions. The results showed that although patients using CMHCs are struggling with the adverse consequences of the pandemic process, they also have difficulty managing their diseases and daily life due to their inability to access psychosocial services in the CMHCs.
The patients reported their negative experiences and need for support during the pandemic. The study highlights the need to adequately accommodate mental health services delivery during future pandemics that may impose movement restrictions.
We investigated the effects of artemisinin on doxorubicin (Dox) induced heart and liver pathology in rats. We divided 49 male rats into seven groups: group 1 was the untreated control. Dox was ...administered intraperitoneally to groups 2, 3 and 4 on day 1. Artemisinin was administered by gavage to groups 3 and 6 at a dose of 7 mg/kg, and to groups 4 and 7 at a dose of 35 mg/kg for 14 days. Group 5 was given only 0.9% NaCl orally for 14 days. At the end of the study, heart and liver samples were collected for histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Hyperemia and slight hemorrhages were observed in both livers and hearts of rats treated with Dox only. Significant increases in caspase-3, TNF-α, iNOS and NF-κB expression were observed in the myocardial cells and hepatocytes of group 2. Significant reductions in caspase-3, TNF-α, iNOS and NF-κB expression were observed in groups 3 and 4 following artemisinin treatment compared to group 2. Artemisinin may exert protective effects against Dox induced cardiotoxicity and hepatotoxicity in rats.

The finds of purses/sabretache with front side coating of metal sheets are of considerable interest for the study of the cultural ties of the population of the Vetluga-Vyatka interfluvial area. ...Purses/sabretache, decorated with sheets and plates, are well known since the 10th century in the Carpathian basin and East European region, and even found on some Scandinavian burial grounds. Items of this type in the Vetluga-Vyatka interfluve were found on the Veselovsky, Rusenikha and Anatkasy burial grounds. But, unfortunately, the finds are poorly preserved, which does not allow a complete reconstruction of the items. In 2019, another handbag was found on the Krasnogorsk burial ground of Mari culture of the 10th century. A good preservation of organic matters and a comprehensive study of the details of the sabretache made it possible to reconstruct the full view of the item. The find from burial 8 of the Krasnogorsk burial ground was examined against a background of wide analogies from the medieval sites of the Carpathian basin, East European and Eurasian regions that allowed to find the place of the item in the system of international connections and to take a closer look at the issue of the genesis and ways of spread of this type of objects.
In this study, a piston-cylinder unit that has 980 mm2 effective area was calibrated by means of the dimensional measurement method. In addition, the cross-floating experiment was conducted to ...determine the effective area of the same piston-cylinder unit, and the results were compared with each other to assess the success of the dimensional measurement method.
First of all, dimensional measurements, form and absolute diameter measurements were performed by using different specialized instruments in their own measurement area. Then, a method based on least squares was used to figure out radius values from the form and absolute diameter measurements. Radius values were used to calculate the effective area of the piston-cylinder unit by using Dadson’s theory. The same piston-cylinder unit was calibrated with the cross-floating method, which is based on fall rates. When the uncertainty values are taken into consideration, the results are equivalent to each other. Uncertainty levels concerning absolute diameter measurements should be decreased for better results.
Retrospective cohort study.
The aims of the current study were (i) to analyze prehospital and emergency room treatment of patients with acute traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and (ii) to analyze ...whether recommendations given by the current guidelines are implemented.
German level I trauma center.
All patients suffering from traumatic SCI who were initially surgically treated in our hospital in the period from January 2008 to December 2013 were included in this study. Available data documented as a standard procedure in our trauma center included patient's demographic and medical information, as well as trauma mechanisms, cause of injury, neurological diagnosis and detailed clinical information about prehospital and early hospital management procedures. Retrospectively, statistical analysis was performed to describe spinal immobilization rates, transportation times and methylprednisolone administration.
A total of 133 patients (mean age: 50.5±21.2 years) met the inclusion criteria. Immobilization was performed on 69.9% of the patients with traumatic SCI. From 60 patients suffering from cervical traumatic SCI, 47 patients had a cervical collar. Full immobilization was only performed in 34 of these 60 patients. Mean time from accident site to emergency room was 61.3±28.7 min. In 25 out of the 133 patients included in the current study, early surgery was not possible because of insufficient circulation and/or increased intracranial pressure. A total of 108 patients could be prepared for early surgery within 322.8±254.1 min after the accident.
The current study shows that recommendations of the current literature and guidelines are mostly followed.
The article presents the results of a multidisciplinary study of a unique artifact from burial 8 of the Krasnogorskiy ancient Mari burial ground of the X century – a leather purse/handbag with a ...metal plate on the cover. Handbags of this type are known in the Carpathian Basin, Eastern European region and even found on some Scandinavian burial grounds. Not only the metal plate has been preserved, but also large fragments of organic materials forming the details of the handbag, which allows us to restore the full appearance of the item. A comprehensive study of the handbag made it possible to make a complete reconstruction. At present, this is the only reconstruction of purses /handbags of the sabretache type from medieval burial grounds, made on the basis of analyses of organic and metal parts of the handbag obtained by specialists of various fields. The conservation of the object was carried out by applying the comprehensive study. A specialized study of the materials used in the manufacturing of the handbag allows to reveal a certain similarity with Hungarian handbags, but does not give reason to consider the handbag from the Krasnogorskiy burial ground as a complete copy of them. This article is the first experience of a comprehensive study of items of this type at the international level (Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature and History named after V.M. Vasilyev, Institute of Archaeology named after A.H. Khalikov, Pázmány Péter Catholic University). The results of the study are preliminary.
The search for the causes of neurodegenerative disorders is a major theme in brain research. Acquired disturbances of several aspects of cellular metabolism appear pathologically important in ...sporadic Alzheimer's disease (SDAT). Among these brain glucose utilisation is reduced in the early stages of the disease and the regulatory enzymes important for glucose metabolism are reduced. In the brain, insulin, insulin-like growth factors and their receptors regulate glucose metabolism and promote neuronal growth. To detect changes in the functional activity of the brain insulin neuromodulatory system of SDAT patients, we determined the concentrations of insulin and c-peptide as well as insulin receptor binding and IGF-I receptor binding in several regions of postmortem brain cortex during aging and Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, we performed immunohistochemical staining with antibodies against insulin in neocortical brain areas in SDAT and controls. We show for the first time that insulin and c-peptide concentration in the brain are correlated and decrease with aging, as do brain insulin receptor densities. Weak insulin-immunoreactivity could be demonstrated histochemically in pyramidal neurons of controls, whereas in SDAT a stronger insulin-immunoreactivity was found. On a biochemical level, insulin and c-peptide levels were reduced compared to middle-aged controls, but were unchanged compared to age-matched controls. Brain insulin receptor densities in SDAT were decreased compared to middle-aged controls, but increased in comparison to age-matched controls. IGF-I receptor densities were unchanged in aging and in SDAT. Tyrosine kinase activity, a signal transduction mechanism common to both receptor systems, was reduced in SDAT in comparison to middle-aged and age-matched control groups. These data are consistent with a neurotrophic role of insulin in the human brain and a disturbance of insulin signal transduction in SDAT brain and favor the hypothesis that insulin dependent functions may be of pathogenetic relevance in sporadic SDAT.
This study reports on 230 infrageneric lichenized and lichenicolous taxa from Barla Mountain, Isparta, Turkey and assesses the ecological features of the area using the distribution of the lichens in ...the region and their poleophoby and solar irradiation ecological indicator values. One lichenized fungus, Protoblastenia terricola, and one lichenicolous fungus, Zwackhiomyces dispersus, are recorded as new in Turkey and 194 taxa are reported for the first time from Barla Mountain. After this research, number of the lichenized and lichenicolous fungi taxa of Barla Mountain rose to 241. Based on assessments using the ecological indicator values, the area is dominated by natural or semi-natural and well-preserved habitats.
