The idea of the hovering effect of architectural structures is encountered throughout history; however, designs, interpretations and manner in which this effect is accomplished have changed. Modern ...technologies and current achievements regarding form have made the hovering effect interesting for both architects and conceptual artists. One of the ways of attaining the hovering effect in architecture worth considering is the use of either natural or man-made mirrors. The production of modern reflective materials has made it possible for architects to shape and create various designs in hovering architecture. The presented research is based on the Classification of the methods of achieving the hovering effect of architectonic structures. This classification is further expanded by the discussion and analysis of horizontal, vertical, oblique and curved mirrors. The novel and inventive way of their use contributes to achieving the effect that has been difficult or even impossible to achieve so far. The classification is expanded so as to represent a logical unity with the existing and improved ways of generating the effect by the use of mirrors. Moreover, it may be further improved by considering the concept known as invisible architecture and by relating it to hovering architecture.
Creating a healthy environment for pre-school children in kindergartens is about providing fundamental spatial comfort, a comprehensive program and conceptual adaptation of both inner and outer ...space. The aim of this study was to investigate the interactivity aspect of pre-school children facilities in Nis, Serbia, with the emphasis on a space as its determinant. As the most important aspects of spatial interactivity, which should be improved, this research recognized open spaces and space for play, improvement of existing classrooms and multifunctional spaces. A horizontal (creating of activity pockets using mobile elements and custom-made furniture) and vertical (introduction of galleries for sleeping) spatial differentiation of existing playrooms is recommended as central activity. Our results imply that a transformation of existing multipurpose spaces into an extension of the surrounding playrooms could contribute to the space quality, and result in diverse learning environment oriented toward active and self-learning.
This paper analyzes higher-order ruled surfaces in terms of their application in architecture and design. The possibilities of applying their characteristic segments and cuttings in the design of ...architectural objects, as well as the possibilities of their being multiplied and combined into more complex spatial structures are considered. The suggested design solutions should in practice enable the implementation of higher-order surfaces into the geometric forms of future architectural structures, as well as their use in different areas of design. The criteria for the selection of higher-order ruled surfaces are defined in this paper while their successful research, analysis and practical application are studied.
Tržni centri kao javni objekti podležu ispunjenju strogih zahteva teničke, ekološke i zdravstvene regulative, kao arhitektonski objekti koji treba da budu privlačni, sadržajni i udobni za korisnike. ...Neophodno je da budu ekonomični i da donose profesionalna i socio-kulturološka dobra. Potreba za remodelovanjem tržnih centara, nastaje tokom eksploatacije objekta. Obično se prve intervencije sprovode u cilju njegove modernizacije, poboljšanja funkcionalnih, estetskih ili drugih karakteristika. Remodelovanje, kao akcija integrisanog projektovanja ogleda se kroz proces očuvanja zahteva održivog razvoja, identifikacije uzroka nastanka poremećaja i ostvarivanja postavljenih ciljeva. Integrisano projektovanje, praćenje stanja i planiranje prema životnom ciklusu objekata, zasnovano je na višestrukim zahtevima održivog graditeljstva. Predmet ovog istraživanja vezan je za procese remodelovanja postojećih arhitektonskih objekata tržnih centara, sa težnjom formiranja održivog objekta, istraživanjem niza uzajamno povezanih i zavisnih parametara u cilju ispunjenja postavljenih zahteva. Remodelovanje je shvaćeno kao proces promene modela na osnovu više teorijskih okvira israživanja - forme i arhitektonskih sadržaja, uticaja sredine, funkcionalne i estetske održivosti, udobnosti i trajnosti, praćenja stanja tokom vremena, efikasnosti i ekonomičnosti održavanja objekta. Osnovna hipoteza istraživanja je da se remodelovanje postojećih arhitektonskih objekata tržnih centara sprovodi u funkciji promena prostornih, materijalnih i vremenski promenljivih parametara, njihovog permanentnog praćenja i vrednovanja. Na osnovu utvrđivanja i analize ulaznih parametara - vremenski zavisnih promenljivih, dolazi se do relevantnih naučnih činjenica koje treba da doprinesu rešenju postavljenog problema. Rezultati istraživanja pružaju mogućnost odabira relevantnih parametara za donošenje odluka o remodelovanju objekta. Rezultati istraživanja u vidu iznetih postupaka, mogu se uspešno koristiti u arhitektonskoj praksi, kako u procesu praćenja i predviđanje stanja objekta u eksploataciji, tako i u arhitektonskom projektovanju. Istraživački model je zasnovan na praćenju stanja objekta u upotrebi, kroz uticaje na promene njegovih estetskih i funkcionalnih vrednosti tokom vremena, prognozi njegovog budućeg stanja, uz praćenje vrednosti i amortizacije objekta.
The change in the condition of a building over time in the technical terms can be seen as a deteriorating process of aging of the building elements and the loss of original technical performance. In ...the economic terms, it is the process of changing the value of the facility and new investments in the maintenance of the facility, as well as servicing the system of equipment and installations, during the service life. The technical dilapidation of the building, or of its elements, can lead to unwanted consequences of endangering the lives and property of people, and of the disruption of functional and aesthetic values of the building, which is very important for the fate of shopping malls. With the exhaustion of the technical life of the building, questions and decisions about the revitalization or demolition of the building necessarily arise. The value of the facility decreases over time, and the costs of maintenance and repairs increase. Over time, regardless of the actual condition, the facility and equipment systems become obsolete when the first needs for modernization arise, which entails new costs. The ratio of maintenance costs is constantly growing, until the moment when the level of profitability of further investment in the renovation of the facility and the system is reached, i.e. until the moment of exhaustion of the economic life of the facility. The paper presents the relationship between preventive, reactive and predictive maintenance costs as well as methods of monitoring, prediction and evaluation of the durability condition of shopping mall facilities.
The paper presents buildings from the period of Ottoman domination in
southern and eastern Serbia. The paper first presents the architectural
analysis of the buildings in question. The historical ...context of their
construction, their original function and the social role they had when they
were created are also considered. A special emphasis was placed on the
analysis of the current state of preservation of these buildings, their new
functions and the role they play in society today.

The paper is based on the analysis of bearing architectonic structures,
properties of material, durability depending on the impacts they are exposed
to. The research is aimed at defining the method ...of increase of durability of
architectonic structure. The damage to the bearing structure concept would
mean the damage to functionality, form and esthetics of the structure. The
choice of materials and systems of bearing structure is important from the
aspect of architectonic designing, formation and functionality, but also of
safety and reliability. In that sense, structure durability is multiply
important, both for the architectonic form and for the importance of the
structure. The choice of materials and design of forms and connections in the
structure is very important for improvement of durability.
A great number of preschool buildings in Serbia, mainly in south-eastern part of Central Serbia, have been examined as a part of scientific project carried at Faculty of Civil Engineering and ...Architecture in Nis. Even though this is an on-going project with data still being collected, there has been sufficient material to make an overview of field situation and draft framework for proposed reconstruction strategy as a main goal of this study. This analysis presents the basis for examining and valorizing local preschool facilities. In addition to treating structural, environmental and aesthetic (internal and external) properties of the buildings, we carried out analysis of energy status of preschool buildings. Investigation of foreign experience with the process of revitalization of this group of buildings has served as the framework for the final part of the chapter, which offers suggestions for improving quality of preschool facilities in Serbia.
Lightweight constructions represent an economical alternative to traditional
buildings, one of whose main drawbacks is the very high energy load needed to
keep internal comfort conditions, as they ...are unable to curb rapid variations
of temperature. When compared to heavier weight materials buildings, it is
estimated that to maintain a thermally comfortable temperature range of
18-24?C, low weight materials use between 2 and 3 times the heating and
cooling energy needed by a heavy weight material construction. The research
concept is based upon the fact that outdoor/indoor heat exchanges (which play
a significant part of lightweight buildings cooling and heating loads) can be
potentially controlled by a new fiber insulation that possesses a thermally
active heat storage capacity. During the day, when temperature rises, the
peak loads can be largely absorbed by a PCM (Phase Change Material) -
enhanced fiber insulation layer, only to be slowly discharged back to the
environment later (during the night time, when outside temperature drops),
without affecting the interior building energy balance, as it is aided by the
presence of an standard low heat transfer fiber insulation layer. This
approach will provide a much slower response of the building envelope to
daily temperature fluctuations, helping in maintaining inside temperature in
a comfortable range and thus avoiding the need for extra energy consumptions
to accomplish it. Effective levels of indoor comfort will be also guaranteed
by the well known fiber materials excellence, when it comes to reduce
airborne noise transmission and its superior performance upon controlling the
sound resonance in construction cavities. Development of such material is in
final phase in frame of European FP7 project STOREPET (FP7-SME-2011-2,
Proposal 286730). Project participant from SEE is Construction Cluster
?Dundjer? from Nis. Development and application of project results will be
presented in this paper.
