ABSTRACT
This poster problematizes selected presentations and outcomes of an IFLA satellite conference on the history of professional organizations of librarians and information scientists. ...Representatives from organizations, including ASIST and library associations around the world from four continents (Europe, North America, Asia, Africa) will meet at the Mundaneum in Mons, Belgium. The theme of the conference is “Preserving our origins: Approaches to the organization, curation, and historiography of the record of national and international organizations in libraries, information, and documentation.”
An irony within information science is that its many professional associations often fail to identify and preserve their own history. Their work is documented, but often not well preserved, and hidden from a wider audience. Born digital materials are especially vulnerable to loss (Neal, 2015). This poster identifies problems and best practices in managing the documents of historical value of volunteer‐led associations and invites ASIST members to contribute to the historical work of the association.
The goal is to identify common problems in preserving association histories. The poster will present several projects discussed at the IFLA satellite conference, as well as proposed ways forward that will advance historical work for the information professions.
This article provides an overview of the recorded history of information associations, focusing especially on the Association for Information Science and Technology. Discussions with the archivists ...of three other professional associations about their beginnings, services, and funding provide the framework. While there are firm legal guidelines for keeping association records, there are no firm guidelines that specifically describe how to archive association records for historical purposes. Association records—including correspondence, votes, and addresses that are not held in formal publications—can reveal how and when decisions were made. Making these records available in archives is invaluable to historians. The authors’ views and opinions are based on what they have learned during the last several years of the active engagement of the Association for Information Science and Technology’s History Committee (HC) and curator, and the hope is that this article will be useful for other associations as they curate their own archives.

Major new developments in the history and heritage of ASIS&T and of information science generally are presented with an opportunity for further discussion. First, a report on the work of the ASIS&T ...Curator, Deanna Morrow Hall, and on the progress of the ASIS&T Curator's Working Group's strategic plan for managing ASIST's information assests and for stewardship of its heritage resources will be presented. Second, the ambitious program of the ASIS&T History Committee to encourage attention to historical work by promoting open access to past publications, the encouragement of oral histories, and other initiatives will be reported by the Committee Chair, Tatjana Apararc‐Jelušić. Third, Olivier Le Deuff illustrates analysis of the social and conceptual contexts of historically important pioneers with his visualization of the world of Paul Otlet (1868–1944).
ABSTRACT
This poster presents findings from a small‐scale study which investigated student internship (hybrid and virtual) during the COVID‐19 lockdown. The study was conducted in 18 Croatian IT ...companies using semi‐structured interviews. The study tried to answer the following research questions: RQ1: How did local IT companies organise student internships during COVID‐19 lockdown; RQ2: What are advantages and disadvantages of online student internship. The study was conducted within the framework of Erasmus + project DECriS (Digital Education for Crisis Situations: Times When There is No Alternative, 2021–2023). Results of this study showed that the advantages of virtual internships are flexibility, saving time, the possibility for the interns to dedicate themselves to their private and academic obligations, comfort, easier work organization, the possibility of self‐organization and reduced risk of COVID‐19 infection. However, other respondents indicated the following negative sides of virtual internship: the lack of communication among students and mentors, students' lack of opportunity to learn about organizational, business and ultimately the human side of the company.
PurposeThe main purpose of the paper is to offer a personal view on the development of documentation/information and documentation (IuD) in Germany, while pointing out the need to further investigate ...the specific features of its development paths. This paper is the result of a research project started three years ago with colleagues from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, that aims to cover all phases of the appearance and development of information science in German-speaking countries and could be understood as a kind of introduction to papers planned to follow.
ABSTRACT
Internationalization is a critical issue in LIS/IS education and the LIS/IS profession. International faculty members should comprise what percentage of a faculty in order to adequately represent the spectrum of disciplines that are critical to contemporary LIS/IS schools?
How international must a curriculum be in order to adequately prepare graduates for the challenges of the rapidly changing information environment of the future?
How do our panelists build beneficial partnerships with international professional stakeholders? How do our panelists ensure the quality of LIS education from an international perspective?
