Several theories of particle physics beyond the Standard Model consider that neutrinos can decay. In this work we assume that the standard mechanism of neutrino oscillations is altered by the decay ...of the heaviest neutrino mass state into a sterile neutrino and, depending on the model, a scalar or a Majoron. We study the sensitivity of the forthcoming KM3NeT-ORCA experiment to this scenario and find that it could improve the current bounds coming from oscillation experiments, where three-neutrino oscillations have been considered, by roughly two orders of magnitude. We also study how the presence of this neutrino decay can affect the determination of the atmospheric oscillation parameters sin2θ23 and Δm312, as well as the sensitivity to the neutrino mass ordering.
The magnetised Iron CALorimeter detector (ICAL), proposed to be built at the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO), is designed to study atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The ICAL detector is ...optimized to measure the muon momentum, its direction and charge. A GEANT4-based package has been developed by the INO collaboration to simulate the ICAL geometry and propagation of particles through the detector. The simulated muon tracks are reconstructed using the Kalman Filter algorithm. Here we present the first study of the response of the ICAL detector to muons using this simulations package to determine the muon momentum and direction resolutions as well as their reconstruction and charge identification efficiencies. For 1-20 GeV/c muons in the central region of the detector, we obtain an average angle-dependent momentum resolution of 9-14%, an angular resolution of about a degree, reconstruction efficiency of about 80% and a correct charge identification of about 98%.
This paper reports on the search for heavy neutrinos with masses in the range 140<MN<493 MeV/c2 using the off-axis near detector ND280 of the T2K experiment. These particles can be produced from kaon ...decays in the standard neutrino beam and then subsequently decay in ND280. The decay modes under consideration are N→ℓα±π∓ and N→ℓα+ℓβ−ν(−)(α,β=e,μ). A search for such events has been made using the Time Projection Chambers of ND280, where the background has been reduced to less than two events in the current dataset in all channels. No excess has been observed in the signal region. A combined Bayesian statistical approach has been applied to extract upper limits on the mixing elements of heavy neutrinos to electron-, muon- and tau- flavored currents (Ue2, Uμ2, Uτ2) as a function of the heavy neutrino mass, e.g., Ue2<10−9 at 90% C.L. for a mass of 390 MeV/c2. These constraints are competitive with previous experiments.
ABSTRACT
Addressing the origin of the astrophysical neutrino flux observed by IceCube is of paramount importance. Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are among the few astrophysical sources capable of achieving ...the required energy to contribute to such neutrino flux through pγ interactions. In this work, ANTARES data have been used to search for upward going muon neutrinos in spatial and temporal coincidence with 784 GRBs occurred from 2007 to 2017. For each GRB, the expected neutrino flux has been calculated in the framework of the internal shock model and the impact of the lack of knowledge on the majority of source redshifts and on other intrinsic parameters of the emission mechanism has been quantified. It is found that the model parameters that set the radial distance where shock collisions occur have the largest impact on neutrino flux expectations. In particular, the bulk Lorentz factor of the source ejecta and the minimum variability time-scale are found to contribute significantly to the GRB-neutrino flux uncertainty. For the selected sources, ANTARES data have been analysed by maximizing the discovery probability of the stacking sample through an extended maximum-likelihood strategy. Since no neutrino event passed the quality cuts set by the optimization procedure, 90 per cent confidence level upper limits (with their uncertainty) on the total expected diffuse neutrino flux have been derived, according to the model. The GRB contribution to the observed diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux around 100 TeV is constrained to be less than 10 per cent.
The Protvino accelerator facility located in the Moscow region, Russia, is in a good position to offer a rich experimental research program in the field of neutrino physics. Of particular interest is ...the possibility to direct a neutrino beam from Protvino towards the KM3NeT/ORCA detector, which is currently under construction in the Mediterranean Sea 40 km offshore Toulon, France. This proposal is known as P2O. Thanks to its baseline of 2595 km, this experiment would yield an unparalleled sensitivity to matter effects in the Earth, allowing for the determination of the neutrino mass ordering with a high level of certainty after only a few years of running at a modest beam intensity of

The initial composition and energy spectrum of the neutrino beam would need to be monitored by a near detector, to be constructed several hundred meters downstream from the proton beam target. The same neutrino beam and near detector set-up would also allow for neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements to be performed. A short-baseline sterile neutrino search experiment would also be possible.

In past years the IceCube Collaboration has reported the observation of astrophysical high-energy neutrino events in several analyses. Despite compelling evidence for the first identification of a ...neutrino source, TXS 0506+056, the origin of the majority of these events is still unknown. In this paper, we search for a possible transient origin of the IceCube astrophysical events using neutrino events detected by the ANTARES telescope. The arrival time and direction of 6894 track-like and 160 shower-like events detected over 2346 days of livetime are examined to search for coincidences with 54 IceCube high-energy track-like neutrino events, by means of a maximum likelihood method. No significant correlation is observed and upper limits on the one-flavor neutrino fluence from the direction of the IceCube candidates are derived. The nonobservation of time and space correlation within the time window of 0.1 days with the two most energetic IceCube events constrains the spectral index of a possible point-like transient neutrino source to be harder than −2.3 and −2.4 for each event, respectively.

Cherenkov Telescopes have been recently announced: GRB 190114C,
detected by MAGIC, GRB 180720B and GRB 190829A, observed by
...H.E.S.S. A dedicated search for neutrinos in space and time
coincidence with the gamma-ray emission observed by IACTs has been
performed using ANTARES data. The search covers both the prompt and
afterglow phases, yielding no neutrinos in coincidence with the
three GRBs studied. Upper limits on the energetics of the neutrino
emission are inferred. The resulting upper limits are several orders
of magnitude above the observed gamma-ray emission, and they do not
allow to constrain the available models.
The inclusive electron neutrino charged-current cross section is measured in the NOvA near detector using 8.02×10^{20} protons-on-target in the NuMI beam. The sample of GeV electron neutrino ...interactions is the largest analyzed to date and is limited by ≃17% systematic rather than the ≃7.4% statistical uncertainties. The double-differential cross section in final-state electron energy and angle is presented for the first time, together with the single-differential dependence on Q^{2} (squared four-momentum transfer) and energy, in the range 1 GeV≤E_{ν}<6 GeV. Detailed comparisons are made to the predictions of the GENIE, GiBUU, NEUT, and NuWro neutrino event generators. The data do not strongly favor a model over the others consistently across all three cross sections measured, though some models have especially good or poor agreement in the single differential cross section vs Q^{2}.
