The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing rapidly controlling and connecting thousands of devices every day. Software Defined Networking (SDN) simplifies network management tasks by separating the ...control plane. However, the increased network traffic results in energy and Quality of Service (QoS) efficiency issues, whereas IoT devices are susceptible to failures and attacks that have serious security consequences. In this regard, providing a guarantee that SDN routing satisfies energy, QoS and security related policies is crucial for the network management. In this paper, we propose a policy-based framework aiming to verify that SDN routing decisions are optimal regarding energy, QoS and security properties. The proposed framework will enable the IoT network operator to adjust the policy constraints according to the demands of each use case (e.g., aiming at more secure or faster network). Finally, our framework is illustrated using a representative evaluation scenario.
Background: The study evaluates the effect of a high supplemental dose of ascorbic acid (AA) on plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), total lipids (TL), and lipoprotein ...fractions high-density, very-low-density-, and low-density lipoprotein (HDL, VLDL, LDL) in guinea pigs fed with atherogenic diet. Methods: Group I consisted of 5 normally fed guinea pigs plus a low dose of AA (1 mg/100 g/day), group II consisted of 7 guinea pigs fed with food enriched with 2% cholesterol plus a low dose of AA (1 mg/100 g/day), and group III consisted of 7 guinea pigs fed with food enriched with 2% cholesterol plus a high dose of AA (30 mg/100 g/day). Cholesterolemic factors concentrations were determined after nine weeks. Results: Concentrations of TC, TG, TL, LDL, and VLDL were increased in group II compared to group I (p < 0.01 for all differences). Supplementation with a high dose of AA resulted in decreased concentrations of TC (p < 0.01), TG (p < 0.01), TL (p < 0.01), and LDL (p < 0.01) in group III compared to group II. Additionally, concentration of HDL was increased in group III compared to group II (p < 0.01). Conclusion: High-dose AA supplementation to an atherogenic diet decreases concentrations of TC, TG, TL, and LDL and increases concentration of HDL compared to low-dose AA.

Therefore, IoT platforms and networks are susceptible to failures and attacks that have significant economic and security consequences. In this regard, implementing effective secure IoT platforms and networks are valuable for both the industry and society. In this paper, we propose two frameworks that aim to verify a number of security policies related to runtime information of the network and dynamic flow routing paths, respectively. The underlying rationale is to allow the operator of an IoT network in order to have an overall control of the network and to define different policies based on the demands of the network and the use cases (e.g., achieving more secure or faster network).
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a heterogeneous group of conditions encompassing all forms of unknown origin arthritis before the age of 16 years that persist for more than 6 weeks. It is the most ...common rheumatic disease in young patients and causes severe disabilities, thus an early initiation of the appropriate treatment modalities is necessary. First therapeutic options are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, and conventional non-biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, such as methotrexate. Insufficiency of these drugs led to the introduction of new biological medications that selectively target specific cytokines with an objective to suppress the disease. Despite the success in treatment and physical therapy, some of the patients develop advanced arthritis that can result in severe pain and disability. In such cases, surgical intervention is required to improve quality of life. The surgical methods include soft tissue release, osteotomies, synovectomies, and arthrodesis. Total joint replacement is the last option for end-stage degenerative conditions (patients with deformity, poor motion, and severe pain). Deep infections, bone perforation, acetabular protrusion, postoperative dislocations, and the need for re-operation are some of the complications of total joint arthroplasty. This review summarizes published studies of the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis focusing mainly on surgical treatment. Our purpose is to evaluate the general trends in treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, focusing on methods, therapeutic advances, and outcomes of the intervention applied.
