Drawing on two already published documents from the fourteenth century that describe the building of the bridge on the Soča River near Tolmin, the contribution presents an argument in favour of the ...thesis that it was the predecessor of the present-day bridge, after which the subsequently established settlement obtained the name Most na Soči.
The article sheds light on the origin & provides the etymology of two previously non-explained place names, ie, Hudajuzna & Porezen. With the help of historical records, it follows their phonological ...development over several centuries & explains the origins of the place names Loje, Logarsce, Obloke, & the oronym Kojca. The disparity between the standard form of a place name & the form in actual use is illustrated with two examples (Robje & Podmelec). The article also briefly summarizes the previous etymologies of the common noun grapa, which is often found in place names in the Tolmin region. Adapted from the source document
V prispevku se pojasnjuje nastanek in podaja etimologija dveh doslej nerazvozlanih zemljepisnih imen: Hudajužna in Porezen. S pomočjo zgodovinskih zapisov se spremlja večstoletni glasoslovni razvoj ...in prikazuje nastanek krajevnih imen Loje, Logaršče, Obloke in gorskega imena Kojca. Na dveh primerih (Robje in Podmelec) se obravnava nasprotje med živo in knjižno obliko zemljepisnega imena. Podan je tudi kratek povzetek dosedanjega etimologiziranja občnega imena grapa, ki pogosto nastopa v zemljepisnih imenihna Tolminskem.
In the process of standardization in two language reference works (SKI 1985, SP 2001), names for inhabitants and adjectives derived from Slovene place names underwent radical intervention. All too ...often, the principle of »predictable« derivation from place names causes names for inhabitants and adjectives to be in conflict with the actual usage, and, most importantly, to disregard the special features of the Slovene name-formation process. Suffixes in Slovene place names (-iče, -ica,-jane, -ina, -ek/-ik, -sk, -n) have not always played a role in the derivation of the inhabitant-naming and adjectival forms. A necessary but insufficient condition for their absence in the process is the fact that a toponym received the suffix only at the level of name-forming rather than when it was still a common name. In the design of normative guides, it is therefore necessary to take into account the fact that much of Slovene linguistic and social history is coded in names for inhabitants and adjectival derivatives from place names, and, consequently, to respect genuine name forms. Introducing so-called »predictable« derivatives in the category of place names would take an unnecessary toll on segments of Slovene linguistic and cultural heritage.
