On February 10, 1993 an Air Force F-16 dropped an INS/GPS modified GBU-15 from an altitude of 35,000 feet and a downrange distance of 88,000 feet in adverse weather. The guided weapon impacted within ...6 meters of the target, demonstrating the potential of INS/GPS technology to significantly improve air-to-surface munitions strategies and tactics. This landmark flight was successfully followed by five additional drops with varying attitudes, downrange distances and weather conditions. OCD was designated an Air Force High Gear program, allowing streamlined acquisition and reporting procedures, in response to Operation Desert Storm experience highlighting the need for attacking high-value targets from high altitude in adverse weather. OCD met it's objective to build and demonstrate an INS/GPS weapon in an operationally representative environment. Results of the demonstration show there is low technical risk associated with development of INS/GPS munitions considered for the Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) program.< >
In the absence of detectable cytologic changes in hog cholera virus-infected tissue culture cells, hog cholera viral antigen was readily detected by immunofluorescence. The ability to detect hog ...cholera viral antigen by this method allowed for determination of infectivity titers and also for titration of homologous antibody. Immunofluorescence made possible the identification, in tissue culture, of hog cholera virus from blood, serum, and spleen extracts of experimentally infected swine. Further applications of this method and its limitations are being investigated.

Personal preference for duty frequently shakes up the roster a little. For instance, Captains A, B, and C appear on the list in the order named. Let us suppose that a vacancy exists in Santo Domingo ...and Captain A, two months ago, expressed a desire in an official letter to be ordered to Haiti when due for foreign duty. At present there is no vacancy in Haiti, but one in prospect a month hence.

As stated above, the operation of the gun is effected by recoil. By an ingenious installation of the peculiarly shaped wedge or lock within the bolt, having a certain area bearing upon the surface of ...an inclined slot cut on the interior faces of the receiver, the principle of adhesive locking of breech is effected.
Studies have been performed on the afferent fibers innervating the scrotal skin of the rat to test the hypothesis that the generator potential mechanism underlying cold thermosensitivity of these ...afferent fibers is an electrogenic sodium pump. In these experiments a pudendal nerve-scrotal skin preparation was isolated from the animal and maintained in oxygenated mammalian Ringer's where composition could be varied and drugs added. Application of ouabain resulted in an increae in the discharge of cold sensitive afferent fibers which was more pronounced at 38--41 degrees C than at temperature below 30 degrees C. In most of the cases transient accelerations on cooling were reduced, but often a transient response to warming appeared. The effects of ouabain administration were reversible. Removal of extracellular K at 35 degrees C resulted in an increased discharge of cold sensitive afferents. This observation is consistent with the effects of ouabain, since removal of extracellular K also block Na transport. The generator potential mechanism underlying cold sensitivity of these afferent fibers appears to be an electrogenic Na pump.
