ObjectivesWe examined impacts and interactions of COVID-19 response involvement, health-related behaviours and health literacy (HL) on anxiety, depression, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) ...among healthcare workers (HCWs).DesignA cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were collected 6 April to 19 April 2020 using online-based, self-administered questionnaires.Setting19 hospitals and health centres in Vietnam.Participants7 124 HCWs aged 21–60 years.ResultsThe COVID-19 response-involved HCWs had higher anxiety likelihood (OR (95% CI)=4.41 (3.53 to 5.51)), higher depression likelihood (OR(95% CI)=3.31 (2.71 to 4.05)) and lower HRQoL score (coefficient, b(95% CI)=−2.14 (−2.89 to −1.38)), compared with uninvolved HCWs. Overall, HCWs who smoked or drank at unchanged/increased levels had higher likelihood of anxiety, depression and lower HRQoL scores; those with unchanged/healthier eating, unchanged/more physical activity and higher HL scores had lower likelihood of anxiety, depression and higher HRQoL scores. In comparison to uninvolved HCWs who smoked or drank at never/stopped/reduced levels, involved HCWs with unchanged/increased smoking or drinking had lower anxiety likelihood (OR(95% CI)=0.34 (0.14 to 0.83)) or (OR(95% CI)=0.26 (0.11 to 0.60)), and lower depression likelihood (OR(95% CI)=0.33 (0.15 to 0.74)) or (OR(95% CI)=0.24 (0.11 to 0.53)), respectively. In comparison with uninvolved HCWs who exercised at never/stopped/reduced levels, or with those in the lowest HL quartile, involved HCWs with unchanged/increased exercise or with one-quartile HL increment reported lower anxiety likelihood (OR(95% CI)=0.50 (0.31 to 0.81)) or (OR(95% CI)=0.57 (0.45 to 0.71)), lower depression likelihood (OR(95% CI)=0.40 (0.27 to 0.61)) or (OR(95% CI)=0.63 (0.52 to 0.76)), and higher HRQoL scores (b(95% CI)=2.08 (0.58 to 3.58)), or (b(95% CI)=1.10 (0.42 to 1.78)), respectively.ConclusionsPhysical activity and higher HL were found to protect against anxiety and depression and were associated with higher HRQoL. Unexpectedly, smoking and drinking were also found to be coping behaviours. It is important to have strategic approaches that protect HCWs’ mental health and HRQoL.
Objectives:
We explored the association of underlying health conditions (UHC) with depression and anxiety, and examined the modification effects of suspected COVID-19 symptoms (S-COVID-19-S), ...health-related behaviors (HB), and preventive behaviors (PB).
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted on 8,291 outpatients aged 18–85 years, in 18 hospitals and health centers across Vietnam from 14th February to May 31, 2020. We collected the data regarding participant's characteristics, UHC, HB, PB, depression, and anxiety.
Results:
People with UHC had higher odds of depression (OR = 2.11;

< 0.001) and anxiety (OR = 2.86;
p
< 0.001) than those without UHC. The odds of depression and anxiety were significantly higher for those with UHC and S-COVID-19-S (
p
< 0.001); and were significantly lower for those had UHC and interacted with “unchanged/more” physical activity (

< 0.001), or “unchanged/more” drinking (
p
< 0.001 for only anxiety), or “unchanged/healthier” eating (
p
< 0.001), and high PB score (
p
< 0.001), as compared to those without UHC and without S-COVID-19-S, “never/stopped/less” physical activity, drinking, “less healthy” eating, and low PB score, respectively.
Conclusion:
S-COVID-19-S worsen psychological health in patients with UHC. Physical activity, drinking, healthier eating, and high PB score were protective factors.
The corona surrounding nanoparticles (NPs) in serum contains proteins such as complement, immunoglobulins, and apolipoproteins that can interact with the immune system. This review article describes ...the impact of these interactions on nanomedicine stability, biodistribution, efficacy, and safety. Notably, it highlights the latest findings on the generation of antibody responses to the polyethylene glycol (PEG) component of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines and possible mechanisms of hypersensitivity reactions induced by antibodies that bind to NPs. Finally, we briefly outline how the NP interactions with immune cells can be harnessed to enhance targeted delivery of nanocargos to disease sites.
Orange-red-emitting AlPO4:Eu3+ phosphors have been systematically synthesized by a co-precipitation method. Under the excitation at 394 nm these phosphor shows strong orange-red emissions with the ...strongest peaks at 588, 594, 685 and 700 nm. The highest PL intensity is achieved at the dopant concentration of 3 mol% and the annealing temperature of 1000 °C. Additionally, 84% of the room-temperature emission intensity is still maintained at 160 °C, indicating a good thermal stability and practicality. By a Judd-Ofelt (JO) analysis, it is demonstrated that the symmetry sites surrounding Eu3+ ions are influenced by the dopant level. The lowest value of Ω2/Ω4 ratio of 0.27 reveals the highest symmetry site at the Eu3+ concentration of 3 mol%. The CIE 1931 color chromaticity coordinates (x, y) and the activation energy of the AlPO4:3%Eu3+ phosphor are (0.5602; 0.3862) and 0.28 eV, respectively. The color coordinates of the phosphor coated on NUV LED chip and its quantum efficiency (QE) are (0.5573, 0.3253) and 38.7%, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a calculated QE of AlPO4:Eu3+-based orange-red-emitting LED is reported. The obtained results show a great potential of using orange-red-emitting AlPO4:Eu3+ phosphor for WLED application.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most dangerous infectious diseases and is caused by Mycobacterium bovis (Mb) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mt). Branched‐chain amino acid aminotransferases (BCATs) ...were reported to be the key enzyme for methionine synthesis in Mycobacterium. Blocking the methionine synthesis in Mycobacterium can inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium. Therefore, in silico screening of inhibitors can be a good way to develop a potential drug for treating TB. A pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate (PLP)‐form of Mycobacterium bovis branched‐chain amino acid aminotransferases (MbBCAT), an active form of MbBCAT, was constructed manually for docking approximately 150 000 compounds and the free energy was calculated in Autodock Vina. The 10 compounds which had the highest affinity to MbBCAT were further evaluated for their inhibitory effects against MbBCAT. Within the selected compounds, compound 4 (ZINC12359007) was found to be the best inhibitor against MbBCAT with the inhibitory constant Ki of 0·45 μmol l−1 and IC50 of 2·37 μmol l−1. Our work provides potential candidates to develop effective drugs to prevent TB since the well‐known structural information would be beneficial in the structure‐based modification and design.
Significance and Impact of the Study: We discovered novel small molecule inhibitors against Mycobacterium branched‐chain amino acid aminotransferases by a structure‐based virtual screening in silico. This suggested that in silico screening by software ‘Autodock’ would be a good approach to perform facile and quick discovery of novel potent inhibitors of an enzyme that is not targeted by any marketed drugs yet, which, in turn, open new venues for antibiotics drugs design campaigns.
Many studies have indicated the detrimental effect of ambient ozone to respiratory health in different countries. The levels of ozone in Hanoi, Vietnam are frequently above the WHO guideline but very ...few studies on the effects of ambient ozone on human health have been conducted in this location. This study aimed to examine the effects of ozone on hospital admission for respiratory diseases in Hanoi, by diseases, ages and seasons.
Hospital admissions, air pollutants and meteorological data were collected from January 2010 to June 2014. We used generalized linear models and distributed lag linear model to assess the association. In addition to full year analysis, we conducted restricted analysis of the data for two summer (from June-August) and winter (from December-February) seasons and grouped hospital admissions by diseases and ages (all ages, children 0 to 5 years and elderly >65 years). The delayed effect of ozone was assessed using lags of up to 5 days.
Ozone has a stronger effect on the risk of hospital admission for respiratory diseases and wheeze-associated disorders in the winter. For respiratory diseases, children were affected by ozone more than other age groups in both winter and summer. Each increase of 10 μg/m3 of ozone is associated with an increase of 6.2% risk of admission for respiratory disease among children in the winter and 1.2% in the summer. For wheeze-associated disorders, the elderly group seemed to be more affected by ozone in full year and winter but no significant association was found between ozone and admission for wheeze-associated diseases in any age group.
Ozone is a risk factor for respiratory admission, especially amongst children under 5 years old in Hanoi, and ozone has a stronger effect in the winter than in the summer in this city.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been influencing people's psychological health, especially in pregnant women. We aimed to examine associated factors of fear of COVID-19, anxiety and depression among ...pregnant women during the pandemic where the impacts of healthy eating behaviour (HES) and health literacy (HL) were emphasized.
A cross-sectional study was conducted between 14 February 2020 and 31 May 2020 in 18 health centres and hospitals across Vietnam. Data of 518 pregnant women were analysed, including socio-demographics, pregnant-related factors, HES, HL, health-related behaviours, fear of COVID-19 scale (FCoV-19S), anxiety (using the generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7)) and depression (using the patient health questionnaire with 9 items (PHQ-9)). Regression analysis was utilized to explore the associations.
Pregnant women with higher scores of HES and HL had lower likelihood of anxiety (odds ratio, OR, 0.79; 95% confidence interval (95%CI), 0.73, 0.87; p < .001; and OR, 0.94; 95%CI, 0.90, 0.99; p = .018) and depression (OR, 0.84; 95%CI, 0.78, 0.91; p < .001; and OR, 0.96; 95%CI, 0.91, 0.99; p = .044), respectively. Pregnant women being employed had a lower FCoV-19S score (regression coefficient, B, −1.46; 95%CI, −2.51, −0.40; p = .007). Besides, other significant predictors of anxiety were eating healthier during the pandemic, unchanged or more physical activity, elevated gestational age and smoking. Other significant predictors of depression were eating healthier during the pandemic, elevated gestational age and smoking.
Among others, HES and HL had positive impacts on protecting pregnant women against anxiety and depression. Improving HES and HL should be addressed as a strategic approach to improve reproductive health during the pandemic.
KEY MESSAGE
The COVID-19 pandemic influences antenatal mental disorders with the higher level as opposed to that before the pandemic.
Healthy eating behaviour and better health literacy (HL) had critical roles in lowering prenatal anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 crisis.
Strategic approaches for improving healthy eating and HL should be recommended for protecting pregnant women from mental health problems during the pandemic.
NaYF4:Er,Yb upconversion luminescent nanoparticles (UCNPs) were prepared by hydrothermal methods at 180 °C for 24 h. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) images show ...that the resulting 60 nm UCNPs possess a hexagonal structure. In this work, maleic anhydride (MA) was grafted on the surface of UCNPs to induce hydrophilic properties. The photoluminescence spectra (PL) show upconversion emissions centered around 545 nm and 660 nm under excitation at 980 nm. The luminescent inks, including UCNPs@MA, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), deionized water (DI), and ethylene glycol (EG), exhibit suitable properties for screen printing, such as high stability, emission intensity, and tunable dynamic viscosity. The printed patterns with a height of 5 mm and a width of 1.5 mm were clearly observed under the irradiation of a 980 nm laser. Our strategy provides a new route for the controlled synthesis of hydrophilic UCNPs, and shows that the UCNPs@MAs have great potential in applications of anti-counterfeiting packing.
Two previously unreported isoflavonoids, placoisoflavones A and B (1 and 2), along with five known compounds, calopogonium isoflavone B (3), jamaicin (4), 6-methoxycalopogonium isoflavone A (5), ...vestitol (6), and caviunin (7) have been isolated from the stems of Placolobium vietnamense N.D.Khôi & Yakovlev. The structures of all isolated compounds were fully characterized using spectroscopic data and comparison with the previous literature. The cytotoxicity of all isolated compounds was evaluated against HepG2 cell line, and compound 1 showed the most potent cytotoxicity with an IC
50
value of 8.0 μM.
Intravenous (IV) recombinant tissue plasminogen activator is the standard of care for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who present to the hospital within 4.5 hours of symptom onset. However, ...IV thrombolysis, even bridging thrombolysis (combining intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy) has limited efficacy among patients who had occlusive lesions associated with high-grade arterial stenosis requiring revascularization to improve neurological deficits. We evaluated whether rescue stenting results in good outcomes among patients after the failure of intravenous thrombolysis and bridging thrombolysis.
We retrospectively analyzed patients with AIS who underwent rescue stenting for large vessel occlusion with severe atherosclerotic stenosis between May 2020 and August 2022 at Can Tho S.I.S General Hospital. Primary outcomes included the incidence of hemorrhagic transformation and the rate of good outcomes (modified Rankin Scale < 3) at 3-month follow-up.
We identified 13 patients who received rescue stenting after the failure of IV alteplase and bridging thrombolysis, but only 11 patients met the inclusion criteria. All patients experienced successful recanalization, and 1 (9.1%) patient experienced new infarcts. Of these 11 patients, 10 (90.9%) had good outcomes 3 months after rescue stenting. Additionally, a loading dose of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) applied concurrently with IV alteplase improved the recanalization rate for large target arteries but had no significant effect on the incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage.
Rescue stenting appears to represent an additional therapeutic option in cases that fail to resolve with IV alteplase, which may improve clinical outcomes.
