At the J-PARC muon facility (MUSE), new beamlines started operation recently. H-line is a high-intensity pulsed muon beamline for fundamental physics experiments. The first beam of the H-line was ...delivered to its first branch (H1 area) in January 2022, where a precise measurement of the muonium hyperfine structure and a search for μ-e conversion will be conducted. Further extension of the second branch of the H-line for a muon g-2/EDM experiment and a transmission muon microscope project is also ongoing. In addition, the second branch of the surface muon beamline (S2 area of the S-line) was opened for a muonium 1S-2S spectroscopy experiment in FY2021. In this paper, the recent upgrade and present status of the J-PARC muon facility and its prospects are presented.
To improve the interfacial shear strength between syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) and carbon fiber (CF), sPS was blended with poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) (PPE) and acid-modified PPE (mPPE), ...which are compatible with sPS and whose interfacial shear strength with CF is sufficiently greater than that of sPS. The interfacial shear strength between sPS and CF dramatically increased with the addition of mPPE, whereas the addition effect of PPE was not always observed. Notably, the addition of 10% mPPE improved the interfacial shear strength of sPS/CF by 270%. A micro-Raman spectroscopy study revealed the localization of mPPE in the vicinity of the CF surface. We demonstrate a novel concept of the self-localization of a minor, but high adhesiveness component in a polymer blend matrix to the CF surface to improve the interfacial shear strength between the major polymer matrix and CF.
•Novel O,N,O-P multidentate ligands were synthesized.•These ligands enabled simple preparation of heterobimetallic complexes.•Oxophilic metals such as Ti, Nb, Al were captured by the ...O,N,O-moiety.•The phosphine moiety selectively coordinated late transition metals such as Rh, Pd.
Multidentate ligands that are comprised of an O,N,O-tridentate coordinating moiety and a phosphine group were synthesized. Some heterobimetallic complexes of these ligands were prepared by a simple method, i.e., first by mixing the ligand and one metal source, then adding another metal source. The O,N,O-moiety selectively coordinated to oxophilic metals such as aluminum, titanium and niobium, while the P moiety, softer Lewis base, selectively captured late transition metals such as palladium and rhodium. Initial attempts were made on a few catalytic reactions with the heterobimetallic complexes.

Head trauma in children is one of the most common causes for emergency department visits. Although most trauma cases are minor, identifying those patients who have clinically important traumatic ...brain injury (ciTBI) is challenging. The Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) head trauma prediction rules identifying children who do not require cranial computed tomography (CT) were validated and are used all over the world. However, these rules have not been validated with large cohort multicenter studies in Asia.
To investigate whether the PECARN rules can be safely applied to Japanese children.
We conducted a multicenter, prospective, observational cohort study. We included children younger than 16 with minor head trauma (Glasgow Coma Scale ≥14) who presented to the six participating centers within 24 h of their injuries between June 2016 and September 2017.
The primary analysis was set to calculate the negative predictive value of the patients with very low risk by the PECARN rules, compared with a preset threshold of 99.85%.
We included 6585 children of which 463 (7.0%) had head CT scans performed and 23 (0.35%) had ciTBI. There were two patients with ciTBI who were classified as very low risk. The negative predictive value, calculated as 99.96% (95%CI: 99.86–100.00; P = .019), was significantly superior compared with the preset threshold of 99.85%.
The PECARN head trauma prediction rules seemed to be safely applicable to Japanese children. Further studies are needed to determine safety in hospitals where physicians do not have expertise in managing children.
This paper presents an analysis and design of the load-independent (LI) high-frequency magnetic resonant wireless power transfer (MR-WPT) system with robustness against load variations and coil ...misalignments. It is clarified from the analysis that robustness against load variations and coil misalignment can be obtained when LI inverter, series-resonant to series-resonant (S-S) coupling topology, input-reactance invariant rectifier against load variations, and post regulator are adopted. The output reactance of the transmitter does not vary against load variations and coil misalignment. Therefore, the inverter works with the LI mode, achieving soft switching without control. As a result, the system ensures soft switching and output regulation against both load variations and coil misalignment without wireless communication feedback. The design example of the system with LI class-E/F inverter, class-D rectifier, and buck converter is given. The quantitative agreements between the analytical prediction and experiment show the effectiveness and validity of the system and its analysis.
This paper proposes the frequency-modulation (FM) controlled load-independent class-E inverter, which has robustness against simultaneous variations of the load and the components in the output ...resonant filter. The main idea is to apply the FM control of the output-voltage regulation to the load-independent class-E inverter. By applying that, the proposed inverter can keep the phase shift between the driving signal and the output voltage constant without using any time information. As a result, the proposed inverter can maintain the constant output voltage and high power-conversion efficiency operation at high frequencies despite the load variations and the component tolerances in the output resonant filter. We give analytical expressions of the proposed inverter and quantitative evaluations. Additionally, an experimental prototype of the proposed inverter was implemented. The theoretical and experimental results showed the validity and effectiveness of the proposed inverter. The implemented inverter achieved 95% efficiency with the 5.7 W output and 1-MHz operating frequency at the rated operation.
This paper discusses a measurement method of unit weight and water content of concrete using radio isotope meter. Concrete members with different unit weight were measured them at the age of 7, 28 ...and 91 days. As a result, it was found the following things. If the unit weight of concrete is high, the measurement accuracy of the unit weight and water content using radio isotope meter is low. Inserting the radio isotope source a sleeve, it can reduce variations in measurements. The drying of concrete read from radio isotope meter. The calibration curve between the unit weight of concrete and the attenuation of radiation was created.

Wireless power transfer could increase the convenience and operating rates of battery-equipped electrical equipment. Since the positional relationship between the transmitter and receiver coils is ...not fixed, selecting an optimal operating frequency for each positional relationship is necessary to maximize power conversion efficiency. This paper focuses on the search method for an optimal operating frequency for a wireless power transfer circuit. We propose a search method for a frequency that maximizes the input power factor and transmission efficiency without using radio communication between the power transmitter and receiver. The circuit examined is a combined resonance circuit in which both the power transmission side and the reception side are series resonance, and its operating frequency range is 79-90 kHz. It is clarified that the optimal operating frequency can be found by detecting the input current of the circuit on the transmission side without radio communication between the power transmitter and receiver.
This study reports that the expected capacity guaranteed routing (ECGR) testbed was built and the face recognition service was provided in the testbed. ECGR, which guarantees that the expected ...capacity calculated based on link failure probability exceeds the requested capacity of flows, has been proposed. On the ECGR testbed, we verify that the assigned expected capacity meets the required capacity. Fault tolerance experiments were conducted to evaluate the impact of not only single link failure but also multiple link failures on the service. From these evaluations, we verified that it is possible to provide highly reliable services on the ECGR.
