Description of a new teaching aid, in which new methods of reconstruction of hidden images by means of nuclear magnetic resonance, X-gamma-ray, and ultrasonic tomography, is presented. The ...diagnostics and therapy methods of various oncological diseases with the use of medicine proton and ions beams, as well as neutron capture therapy, are considered. The new teaching aid is intended for senior students and postgraduates.
The accident at the Fukushima NPP has revealed a certain drawback of traditional methods of registration of ionizing radiation by means of the automated radiation monitoring system, because in the ...conditions of the accident at the NPP the monitoring posts of the system were damaged as a result of the tsunami (23 of 24), which did not allow to evaluate the degree of radioactive contamination of the area in the early stages. In such conditions the most promising method of radiation control carried out on the potentially hazardous area is a non-contact method using an unmanned dosimetry complex (UDC), the application of which would reduce the risk of exposure to additional dose loads of personnel carrying out search and reconnaissance work and, additionally, provide management not only with information regarding radioactive contamination of the environment, but also directly provide the results of the search and reconnaissance. However, apart from the equipment used to determine the radiation background (detectors, spectrometers, radiometers, etc.) an important part of the UDC is the organization of the dosimetry complex and the way of information transfer. A possible variant of data transmission channel from the dosimetry complex installed on the UDC to the operator’s personal computer is presented using NRF radio modules as an example.
Abstract
The article focuses on a robotic gamma-ray spectrometric complex designed for decommissioning nuclear and radiation-hazardous objects and monitoring radioactive waste. The complex includes ...various components, such as radiation monitoring and regular observations to determine the object’s radiation parameters. The control of nuclear and radiation-hazardous objects performed using a High Pressure Xenon gamma-ray spectrometer that installed on a remotely controlled platform.
The results of testing a xenon gamma spectrometer based on the use of an ionization chamber with compressed xenon are presented. A standard source
was used to study the characteristics of the ...spectrometer. The main characteristics were measured: registration efficiency of 2%, energy resolution of 1.4%.

The article deals with the latest version of a computer part of Vacuum Engineering laboratory in which means of fragmentary pumping and receiving of fine vacuum are studied. The virtual laboratory ...allows to carry out a heatup and processing of preselected surface materials of the pumped-out objects in acceptable time limits by using any means of preselected pumping (from the built-in database). It is possible to retrace online dynamics of receiving fine vacuum in time by having started the procedure of pumping.
Upper extremity tendonitis (UET) associated with work activity is common but the true incidence and risk factors can best be determined by a prospective cohort study. This study followed a cohort of ...501 active workers for an average of 5.4 years. Incident cases were defined as workers who were asymptomatic at baseline testing and had no prior history of UET and went on to be diagnosed with an UET during the follow-up period or at the follow-up evaluation. The incident cases were compared to the subset of the cohort who also had no history of an UET and did not develop tendonitis during the study. The cumulative incidence in this cohort was 24.3% or 4.5% annually. The factors found to have the highest predictive value for identifying a person who is likely to develop an UET in the near future included age over 40, a BMI over 30, a complaint at baseline of a shoulder or neck discomfort, a history of CTS and a job with a higher shoulder posture rating. The risk profile identifies both ergonomic and personal health factors as risks and both categories of factors may be amenable to prevention strategies.
The results obtained by measuring the efficiency of detection of charged particles (atmospheric muons) for a prototype of a polyvinyltoluene-based scintillation detector being created for the ...anticoincidence system of the Signal experiment on board the Interhelioprobe spacecraft are presented. These measurements rely on determining the ratio of the numbers of triple and double coincidences of pulses that arise as atmospheric muons traverse the detector system.
A method for 222Rn concentration monitoring by means of intensity measurement of its daughter nuclei (214Pb and 214Bi) gamma-ray emission using xenon gamma-ray spectrometer is presented. Testing and ...calibration results for a gamma-spectrometric complex based on xenon gamma-ray detector are described.
A general concept of a new interdisciplinary glossary, which includes particle accelerator terminology used in medicine, as well as relevant medical concepts, is presented. Its structure and usage ...rules are described. An example, illustrating the quickly searching technique of relevant information in this Glossary, is considered. A website address, where one can get an access to the Glossary, is specified. Glossary can be refined and supplemented.
