Hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia occurs in up to 10% of all aplastic anemia cases. Syngeneic bone marrow transplantation is rare in patients with severe aplastic anemia and usually requires ...pre-transplant conditioning to provide engraftment. We report on a 29-year-old male patient with hepatitis-associated severe aplastic anemia who had a series of severe infectious conditions before transplantation, including tracheal inflammation. Life-threatening bleeding, which developed after bronchoscopy, was successfully treated with activated recombinant factor VII and platelet transfusions. Syngeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using immunosuppressive treatment with antithymocyte globulin and cyclosporin A without high-dose pre-transplant conditioning was performed, followed by complete hematologic and hepatic recovery.
In this paper the analysis of atmospheric deposition fluxes of Pb, Cd, Ni, and As in the Bor town (Serbia) is presented for the period 2011-2020. The results of measurements from the period of ...operation of the old smelter (2011-2015) were compared with the results of measurements during the period of operation of the new smelter (2016-2020). As a result of changes in the copper smelting technology and the better treatment of waste gases in the smelter, the average level of the total atmospheric depositon (TAD) was reduced by 63% in the period 2016-2020. The reduction of atmospheric deposition fluxes of Pb (59%), Cd (34%), and As (65%) are detected at all sampling points in the period 2016-2020. In contrast, the fluxes of Ni were increased (211%). Also, pH values of TAD have been changed at all sampling points from acidic (5.7 pH), during the period of operation of the old smelter, to alkaline (7.7 pH) in the period of operation of the new smelter. The presence of a very strong (r>0.8) and strong (0.8>r>0.6) Pearson correlation between the atmospheric deposition fluxes of cancerogenic elements were determined at all sampling points during the period 2016-2020, as opposed to the period 2011-2015 where these correlations were weak (r<0.4).
Human colorectal carcinoma tissue sampled from 37 patients, routinely graded into Dukes' stages A, B and C and histologically examined for the level of differentiation, were analyzed for the presence ...of point mutations in the K-ras oncogene. Seventeen cases out of the 37 analyzed were found to have a mutation in either the 12th or the 13th codon of the K-ras gene, giving an overall frequency of mutation of 46%. The incidence of mutations in Dukes' stages A, B and C was 33, 46 and 58% respectively. Although the frequency of mutation appears to be similar to that reported for the USA population, the spectrum of point mutations in codons 12 and 13 of the K-ras gene in the Yugoslav population appears to differ significantly. G-to-T transversions make up 77% of all mutations present, with the distribution as follows: 18% at the first base and 59% at the second base of codons 12 and 13. G-to-A transitions at the second base is the only other mutation identified, occurring mainly in codon 13 in colorectal tumors of all 3 stages.
Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is a rare disease with the incidence ranging from 0.08 to 0.57 per 100,000 person-years. Up to 25% of cases in women are detected during pregnancy. We report two ...cases of successful pregnancy outcomes in patients treated with eculizumab, pointing out the importance of interdisciplinary approach in these high-risk pregnancies.
This paper presents a control system applied in vibration monitoring and conceived upon Fuzzy logic application for steering a virtual drive unit. Fuzzy logic controller, with the linguistic rules ...base, is designed in Lab VIEW. The role of Fuzzy logic controller in this arrangement is to control and manage a drive unit speed, reffered to the measured vibration severity.
