Patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who survive more than 2 years are considered long-term survivors (LTSs). The present study examined factors associated with long-term ...survival and collected information for future comparison.
Clinical, molecular, and therapeutic data were collected from patients followed for primary stage IV (7th TNM classification) NSCLC within 2 years from diagnosis in the respiratory medicine departments of 53 French non-teaching hospitals. LTS and non-LTS records were compared. Factors associated with long-term survival were examined by univariate and multivariate analyses using logistic regression models.
Vital status at least 2 years after diagnosis was known for 1977 stage IV NSCLC patients; 220 (11.1%) were LTSs. On multivariate analysis, independent positive factors comprised: TTF-1(+) immunochemistry, EGFR-mutation, surgery, rescue radiotherapy, and targeted therapy. Independent negative factors comprised: prediagnosis weight loss>5kg, ECOG performance status>1, and primary radiotherapy.
Molecular biology and targeted therapy were decisive for long-term survival. With their development and their widespread implementation in clinical practice, the percentage of LTSs is expected to grow. Factors determining long-term survival found in this study should be taken into account when considering treatment options for patients with stage IV NSCLC.

A good agreement is obtained between calculations of permeability and thermal conductivity of foams characterized by microtomography and measurements.
Three dimensional samples of three different ...foams are obtained by microtomography. The macroscopic conductivity and permeability of these foams are calculated by three different numerical techniques based on either a finite volume discretization or Lattice Boltzmann algorithm. Permeability is also measured and an excellent agreement is obtained between the various estimations. Calculated conductivities are successfully compared to available data.
We report on the recording of 3D optical memories in sol–gel materials by using a non-linear absorption effect. This effect induces a local change in optical properties of the material which is read ...and quantified with a high-resolution full-field optical coherence tomography setup. It is the first time that this technique is used for this purpose. Data recording was performed by focused picosecond (ps) single-pulse irradiation at 1064 nm with energy densities of 10 and

Infliximab (Remicade) is an anti-TNF alpha indicated in the treatment of chronic inflammatory rheumatism, notably rheumatoid arthritis.
We report the case of a 56 year-old woman who developed severe ...worsening of an SSA-positive subacute lupus erythematosus on initiation of treatment with infliximab for rheumatoid arthritis.
A review of the literature found 30 cases of drug-induced lupus and listed the autoimmune modifications induced by anti-TNF alpha. This first case of subacute lupus erythematosus, existing before the introduction of treatment and worsening during the latter, emphasizes the risk of developing a severe flare of an autoimmune disease during treatment with anti-TNF alpha. It raises the question of the relative contraindications of anti-TNF alpha in patients with lupus erythematosus.
The importance of environment acquisition in free-path finding trajectories in mobile robotics is discussed. A technique is proposed to allow the operator to perform environment acquisition by means ...of HAMID (heuristics for autonomous mobiles with integrated design). Both the breadth-first search (BS) and the depth-first search (DS) are applied to this representation for free-path finding trajectories. Clothoid insertion to smooth the chosen trajectories is discussed.< >
The production of ganciclovir doses by a hospital pharmacy having the necessary facilities to reconstitute anticancer drugs would be of the utmost relevance regarding both protection of the nursing ...staff and therapeutic safety. As this activity is also economically worthwhile a large number of our colleagues would like to implement it. The aim of this work has was to take advantage of a 40 weeks production of ganciclovir dose by the pharmacy at Rangueil hospital in Toulouse so as to answer some of the questions raised by such a project. The savings achieved by the team at Brabois hospital in Vandoeuvre les Nancy could therefore be validated. They are expressed in fraction of flask per dose produced (0,265). Applied to the number of doses that we delivered over a 40 week period, this coefficient enabled us to estimate from the only datum which is initially available to us, namely the number of flasks used, the extra work load and the savings that could be made: given steady activity, the number of doses the pharmacy will have to prepare is equal to the number of flasks multiplied by 1.418 and, provided one opts for a production process mostly in batches, the savings will be equivalent to 37.5% of the flasks.
All-Niobium Nitride Josephson junctions have been prepared successfully using a new processing called SNOP : Selective Niobium (Nitride) Overlap Process. Such a process involves the "trilayer" ...deposition on the whole wafer before selective patterning of the electrodes by optically controlled Dry Reactive Ion Etching. Only two photomask levels are need to define an "overlap" or a "cross-type" junction with a good accuracy. The properties of the Niobium Nitride films deposited by DC-Magnetron sputtering and the surface oxide growth are analysed. The most critical point to obtain high quality and high gap value junctions resides in the early stage of the NbN counterelectrode growth. Some possibilities to overcome such a handicap exist even if the fabrication needs substrate temperatures below 250 °C.
Process test chips for Josephson integrated Circuits including refractory metal resistors have been achieved and tested with Niobium based technology made in LETI. Tantalum resistors are lying above ...niobium base electrode. Such a configuration gives compact logic circuits and very good mechanical bahaviours. An entire 14 layers technology including Nb-Nb 2 O 5 - Pb(In) tunnel junctions, control lines and contact pads is being achieved and described. Arrays of 100 interferometers cells, superconductive contacts in series, and other chips for measuring capacitance of junctions and insulators, penetration depths in superconductive materials, resistors are fabricated on sapphire, wafers and tested. Such devices yield a good stability upon thermal cycling and storage at room temperature.
