Entrainment of cortical rhythms to acoustic rhythms has been hypothesized to be the neural correlate of pulse and meter perception in music. Dynamic attending theory first proposed synchronization of ...endogenous perceptual rhythms nearly 40 years ago, but only recently has the pivotal role of neural synchrony been demonstrated. Significant progress has since been made in understanding the role of neural oscillations and the neural structures that support synchronized responses to musical rhythm. Synchronized neural activity has been observed in auditory and motor networks, and has been linked with attentional allocation and movement coordination. Here we describe a neurodynamic model that shows how self-organization of oscillations in interacting sensory and motor networks could be responsible for the formation of the pulse percept in complex rhythms. In a pulse synchronization study, we test the model's key prediction that pulse can be perceived at a frequency for which no spectral energy is present in the amplitude envelope of the acoustic rhythm. The result shows that participants perceive the pulse at the theoretically predicted frequency. This model is one of the few consistent with neurophysiological evidence on the role of neural oscillation, and it explains a phenomenon that other computational models fail to explain. Because it is based on a canonical model, the predictions hold for an entire family of dynamical systems, not only a specific one. Thus, this model provides a theoretical link between oscillatory neurodynamics and the induction of pulse and meter in musical rhythm.
Adenomyosis is linked to infertility, but the mechanisms behind this relationship are not clearly established. Similarly, the impact of adenomyosis on ART outcome is not fully understood. Our main ...objective was to use ultrasound imaging to investigate adenomyosis prevalence and severity in a population of infertile women, as well as specifically among women experiencing recurrent miscarriages (RM) or repeated implantation failure (RIF) in ART.
Cross-sectional study conducted in 1015 patients undergoing ART from January 2009 to December 2013 and referred for 3D ultrasound to complete study prior to initiating an ART cycle, or after ≥3 IVF failures or ≥2 miscarriages at diagnostic imaging unit at university-affiliated private IVF unit. Adenomyosis was diagnosed in presence of globular uterine configuration, myometrial anterior-posterior asymmetry, heterogeneous myometrial echotexture, poor definition of the endometrial-myometrial interface (junction zone) or subendometrial cysts. Shape of endometrial cavity was classified in three categories: 1.-normal (triangular morphology); 2.- moderate distortion of the triangular aspect and 3.- "pseudo T-shaped" morphology.
The prevalence of adenomyosis was 24.4 % (n = 248) 29.7 % (94/316) in women aged ≥40 y.o and 22 % (154/699) in women aged <40 y.o., p = 0.003). Its prevalence was higher in those cases of recurrent pregnancy loss 38.2 % (26/68) vs 22.3 % (172/769), p < 0.005 and previous ART failure 34.7 % (107/308) vs 24.4 % (248/1015), p < 0.0001. The presence of adenomyosis has been shown to be associated to endometriosis 35.1 % (34/97). Adenomyosis was diagnosed as a primary finding "de novo" in 80.6 % (n = 200) of the infertile patients. The impact on the uterine cavity was mild, moderate and severe in 63.7, 22.6 and 10.1 % of the cases, respectively.
Our results indicate that adenomyosis is a clinical condition with a high prevalence that may affect the reproductive results. The described severity criteria may help future validating studies for better counseling of infertile couples.

The design of stacks of layered materials in which adjacent layers interact by van der Waals forces has enabled the combination of various two-dimensional crystals with different electrical, optical ...and mechanical properties as well as the emergence of novel physical phenomena and device functionality. Here, we report photoinduced doping in van der Waals heterostructures consisting of graphene and boron nitride layers. It enables flexible and repeatable writing and erasing of charge doping in graphene with visible light. We demonstrate that this photoinduced doping maintains the high carrier mobility of the graphene/boron nitride heterostructure, thus resembling the modulation doping technique used in semiconductor heterojunctions, and can be used to generate spatially varying doping profiles such as p-n junctions. We show that this photoinduced doping arises from microscopically coupled optical and electrical responses of graphene/boron nitride heterostructures, including optical excitation of defect transitions in boron nitride, electrical transport in graphene, and charge transfer between boron nitride and graphene.
In this contribution, we report the development of in situ electrochemical cells based on proton exchange membranes suitable for studying interfacial structural dynamics of energy materials under ...operation by near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. We will present both the first design of a batch-type two-electrode cell prototype and the improvements attained with a continuous flow three-electrode cell. Examples of both sputtered metal films and carbon-supported metal nanostructures are included demonstrating the high flexibility of the cells to study energy materials. Our immediate focus was on the study of the oxygen evolution reaction, however, the methods described herein can be broadly applied to reactions relevant in energy conversion and storage devices.
The optimized, superconducting stellarator Wendelstein 7-X went into operation and delivered first measurement data after 15 years of construction and one year commissioning. Errors in the magnet ...assembly were confirmend to be small. Plasma operation was started with 5 MW electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) power and five inboard limiters. Core plasma values of Te>8 keV, Ti>2 keV at line-integrated densities n≈3⋅1019 m−2 were achieved, exceeding the original expectations by about a factor of two. Indications for a core-electron-root were found. The energy confinement times are in line with the international stellarator scaling, despite unfavourable wall conditions, i.e. large areas of metal surfaces and particle sources from the limiter close to the plasma volume. Well controlled shorter hydrogen discharges at higher power (4 MW ECRH power for 1 s) and longer discharges at lower power (0.7 MW ECRH power for 6 s) could be routinely established after proper wall conditioning. The fairly large set of diagnostic systems running in the end of the 10 weeks operation campaign provided first insights into expected and unexpected physics of optimized stellarators.

In patients with recurrent miscarriages (RM) or recurrent implantation failure (RIF), does the maternal killer immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) haplotype have an impact on live birth ...rates per cycle after embryo transfer with the patient's own or donated oocytes?
SUMMARY ANSWER
After double embryo transfer (DET) in patients with the maternal KIR AA haplotype, a significantly increased early miscarriage rate was observed when the patient's own oocytes were used, and a significantly decreased live birth rate per cycle after embryo transfer was observed when donated oocytes were used.
WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN
Interactions between fetal HLA-C and maternal KIR influence placentation during human pregnancy. There is an increased risk of RM, pre-eclampsia or fetal growth restriction in mothers with the KIR AA haplotype when the fetus has more HLA-C2 genes than the mother.
STUDY DESIGN, SIZE AND DURATION
Between 2010 and 2014, we performed a retrospective study that included 291 women, with RM or RIF, who had a total of 1304 assisted reproductive cycles.
PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS
Pregnancy, miscarriage and live birth rates per cycle after single or DET, categorized by the origin of the oocytes and the presence of maternal KIR haplotypes, were studied. KIR haplotype regions were defined by the presence of the following KIR genes: Cen-A/2DL3; Tel-A/3DL1 and 2DS4; Cen-B/2DL2 and 2DS2; as well as Tel-B/2DS1 and 3DS1.
MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE
Higher rates of early miscarriage per cycle after DET with the patient's own oocytes in mothers with the KIR AA haplotype (22.8%) followed by those with the KIR AB haplotype (16.7%) compared with mothers with the KIR BB haplotype (11.1%) were observed (P = 0.03). Significantly decreased live birth rates per cycle were observed after DET of donated oocytes in mothers with the KIR AA haplotype (7.5%) compared with those with the KIR AB (26.4%) and KIR BB (21.5%) haplotypes (P = 0.006). No statistically significant differences were observed for pregnancy, miscarriage and live birth rates per cycle among those with maternal KIR AA, AB and BB haplotypes after single embryo transfer (SET) with the patient's own or donated oocytes. The large number of cases studied strengthens the results and provides sufficient power to the statistical analysis.
LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION
During the IVF procedure, DET induces the expression of more than one paternal HLA-C and the oocyte-derived maternal HLA-C in the oocyte-donation cycles probably behaves like paternal HLA-C. Because this was a retrospective study, we did not have data about the HLA-C of the parent, donor, chorionic villi, or infant, which is a limitation because we cannot show differences according to paternal or oocyte donor HLA-C1 and HLA-C2.
WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS
These new insights could have an impact on the selection of SET in patients with RM or RIF, and a KIR AA haplotype. Also, it may help in oocyte and/or sperm donor selection by HLA-C in patients with RM or RIF and a KIR AA haplotype.

A thermogravimetric study in both nitrogen and air atmospheres has been carried out on unfilled and graphene-reinforced solid and foamed polycarbonate. Polycarbonate foams were prepared using a ...supercritical CO2 dissolution one-step batch foaming process. Results showed that polycarbonate displayed a characteristic one-step decomposition under nitrogen, while three-step degradation was observed in air. In addition, as-received pristine graphene nanoplatelets displayed a three-step degradation in air, compared to a mild degradation under nitrogen. It was found that the thermal stability remarkably improved for the foamed composites, related to a combination of a heat transfer reduction promoted by the insulating cellular structure and the presence of the platelet-like graphene, which helped create a physical barrier effect, delaying the escape of volatile products generated during decomposition.
