In this work we combine time, spectral and cepstral features of the signal captured in a tablet to characterize depression, anxiety, and stress emotional state recognition on the EMOTHAW database. ...EMOTHAW contains the emotional states of users represented by capturing signals from sensors on the tablet and pen when the user is performing 3 specific handwriting and 4 drawing tasks, which had been categorized into depressed, anxious, stressed, and typical, according to the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS). Each user was characterized with six time-domain features, and the number of spectral-domain and cepstral-domain features for the horizontal and vertical displacement of the pen, the pressure on the paper, and the time spent on-air and off-air, depended on the configuration of the filterbank. As next step, we select the best features using the Fast Correlation-Based Filtering method. Since our dataset has 129 users, then as next step, we augmented the training data by randomly selecting a percentage of the training data and adding a small random Gaussian noise to the extracted features. We then train a radial basis SVM model using the Leave-One-Out (LOO) methodology. The experimental results show an average accuracy classification improvement ranging of 15%, and an accuracy classification improvement ranging from 4% to 34% compared with baseline (state of the art) for specific emotions such as depression, anxiety, stress, and typical emotional states.
In this research, we analyse data obtained from sensors when a user handwrites or draws on a tablet to detect whether the user is in a specific mood state. First, we calculated the features based on ...the temporal, kinematic, statistical, spectral and cepstral domains for the tablet pressure, the horizontal and vertical pen displacements and the azimuth of the pen's position. Next, we selected features using a principal component analysis (PCA) pipeline, followed by modified fast correlation-based filtering (mFCBF). PCA was used to calculate the orthogonal transformation of the features, and mFCBF was used to select the best PCA features. The EMOTHAW database was used for depression, anxiety and stress scale (DASS) assessment. The process involved the augmentation of the training data by first augmenting the mood states such that all the data were the same size. Then, 80% of the training data was randomly selected, and a small random Gaussian noise was added to the extracted features. Automated machine learning was employed to train and test more than ten plain and ensembled classifiers. For all three moods, we obtained 100% accuracy results when detecting two possible grades of mood severities using this architecture. The results obtained were superior to the results obtained by using state-of-the-art methods, which enabled us to define the three mood states and provide precise information to the clinical psychologist. The accuracy results obtained when detecting these three possible mood states using this architecture were 82.5%, 72.8% and 74.56% for depression, anxiety and stress, respectively.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an important ROS molecule (Reactive oxygen species) that serves as a signal of oxidative stress and activation of signaling cascades as a result of the early response of ...the plant to biotic stress. This response can also be generated with the application of elicitors, stable molecules that induce the activation of transduction cascades and hormonal pathways, which trigger induced resistance to environmental stress. In this work, we evaluated the endogenous H2O2 production caused by salicylic acid (SA), chitosan (QN), and H2O2 elicitors in Capsicum annuum L. Hydrogen peroxide production after elicitation, catalase (CAT) and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) activities, as well as gene expression analysis of cat1, pal, and pathogenesis-related protein 1 (pr1) were determined. Our results displayed that 6.7 and 10 mM SA concentrations, and, 14 and 18 mM H2O2 concentrations, induced an endogenous H2O2 and gene expression. QN treatments induced the same responses in lesser proportion than the other two elicitors. Endogenous H2O2 production monitored during several days, showed results that could be an indicator for determining application opportunity uses in agriculture for maintaining plant alert systems against a stress.
Materials obtained from thermal treatment of thermally treated NiCoFe-layered double hydroxides (LDH) with different Ni:Co ratios were evaluated as bifunctional catalysts for Oxygen Reduction ...Evolution and Evolution Reduction Reactions in alkaline media. The structural properties of synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared, Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies, whereas the basicity of each material was evaluated by temperature-programmed desorption of carbon dioxide. The results revealed the presence of inverse spinel structure with different compositions and a NiO phase with different amounts in the sample, while the electrochemical results showed a high activity towards oxygen reactions. The sample with higher amount of NiO and the lowest substitution grade on tetrahedral sites in the spinel-type structure exhibited the best catalytic activity.

The prevalence estimations of hereditary ataxias are biased since most epidemiological studies are confined to isolated geographical regions and few nationwide studies are available. The study aims ...to assess the prevalence, distribution, and neurological features of the Cuban population with hereditary ataxias. A nationwide epidemiological study of hereditary ataxias was conducted in Cuba between March 2017 and June 2018. Patients were scheduled at the Cuban ataxia research center, various hospitals, or at their homes. Demographic and clinical variables were obtained through standardized questionnaires and validated clinical tools. Overall, 1001 patients were diagnosed with hereditary ataxias for a nationwide prevalence of 8.91 cases/100.000 inhabitants. Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) was the commonest subtype, with highest prevalences at Holguín province (47.86/100.000), and a broad dissemination in the whole country. Most of neurological features were common between all SCA cohorts, but the frequencies of some of them varied between distinct subtypes. Within the SCA2 cohort, significant influences of long mutation size and higher disease duration over the muscle atrophy and oculomotor disorders were observed. Besides, higher disease durations were associated with resting tremor and dysphagia, whereas shorter disease durations were associated with hyperreflexia. The spreading of SCA2 to whole country and the documented raising of its prevalence set the rationales for higher-scope medical care and research strategies, supported in collaborative research networks. The wide epidemiological, clinical, and genetic characterization of this founder SCA2 population identifies this homogeneous cohort as an attractive source for the development of future clinical-genetic and therapeutic researches.
