Phytochemicals are extensively found at different levels in many medicinal plants. This work had two objectives: the first, to evaluate the total phenolic or flavonoid contents of 11 Algerian ...medicinal plants and second, to determine whether these compounds have an antioxidant capacity toward free radical propagation. The polyphenolic extractions of the dried powdered samples have been performed using 70% ethanol. The total phenolic content, analyzed using Folin–Ciocalteu’s reagent, of the samples varied from 3.13 to 32.32
mg/g dry weight, expressed as gallic acid equivalents (GAE). The total flavonoid concentrations, detected using 2% aluminum chloride, varied from 1.62 to 13.12
mg rutin equivalents (RE)/g dry weight. To analyze the antioxidant activity, a common stable radical chromogen, 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS
+
), was used. The antioxidant activity measurement, expressed as Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), ranged from 9.40 to 33.06
mM Trolox equivalents. With further data analysis it was found that there was a positive correlation between the total phenolic content of a given sample and its antioxidant activity,

0.7931, whereas the correlation between the total flavonoids and antioxidant activity was determined to be

0.7802. These results suggest that the level of antioxidant activity in these plants varies to a great extent. They also suggest that phenolics in these plants provide substantial antioxidant activity. Upon achievement of this survey, and using more samples, an extra benefit of these medicinal plants may be found. Flora of Algeria appears to be a rich and interesting source for supplementary ethnomedicinal and phytochemical studies.
Lymphomas of the CNS are the second most frequent primary brain malignancy in adults after gliomas. Presurgical suspicion of lymphoma greatly impacts patient management. The radiologic features of ...this tumor have been widely covered in the literature for decades, but under current classifications, mainly corresponding to the most common presentations of the most frequent type: primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the CNS. Nevertheless, rarer presentations of this specific lymphoma and of other World Health Organization lymphoma subtypes with different imaging features are rarely treated. Moreover, important advances in imaging techniques, changing epidemiologic factors with relevant impact on these tumors (eg, immunodeficiency/dysregulation), and recent updates of the World Health Organization Classification of CNS Tumors 2021 and Hematolymphoid Tumors 2022 may have rendered some accepted concepts outdated. In this article, the authors aim to fulfill a critical need by providing a complete update-review, emphasizing the latest clinical-radiologic features of the full spectrum of lymphomas involving the CNS.
In this work, we report the excitation of spin-waves modes in skyrmion clusters hosted in Co/Pt nanodots by applying an in-plane magnetic field pulse. The direction at which the magnetic field is ...applied enables the excitation of five main spin-waves modes that are understood in terms of only azimuthal-like modes, which are shown to be strongly dependent on the number of skyrmions stabilized in the system. This feature converts the present system in a mechanism to activate and suppress a set of given modes, which in turn we propose to be utilized as a magnonic key based skyrmion cluster. Our results could be useful in manufacturing potential magnonic logic devices based in skyrmionic textures.
The present study reports the biodegradation of polystyrene (PS) by mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) following different feeding regimes. Changes in lipids and protein were studied to evaluate possible ...differences in the growth and metabolic pathways of the insects depending on the diets. Thermo-gravimetric analysis of the excretions (frass) revealed a decrease in the molecular mass of the PS polymers. The insects' biomass contained less protein when PS was part of the diet, suggesting that the insects undergo a certain level of stress compared to control diets. The frass also contained lower amount of nitrogen content compared to that from insects fed a control diet. NH4+ and other cations involved in biochemical processes were also measured in insects’ frass, including potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium, combined with a small pH change. The decrease in the mineral content of the frass was attributed to increased cellular activity in PS-fed insects. A higher amount of ceramides and cardiolipins, biomarkers of apoptosis, were also found in association with PS consumption. It was concluded that the insects could metabolize PS, but this caused an increase in its stress levels.

This article presents a detailed analysis of the electrical performances of 3-D-printed helical-microstrip transmission lines. The transmission properties of these lines are studied theoretically. As ...a result, a model is proposed that consists of closed formulae for determining the characteristic impedance and the electrical length of the helical-microstrip transmission lines, as a function of electromagnetic parameters of the 3-D-printing base material and the geometry of the component. We also used the model to study the limits of compaction related to the helical geometry. The accuracy of the model is validated via finite-element method simulations and experimental results.
Psychometrically identified positive schizotypy and negative schizotypy are differentially related to psychopathology, personality and social functioning. However, little is known about the ...experience and expression of schizotypy in daily life and the psychological mechanisms that trigger psychotic-like experiences.
The present study employed experience sampling methodology (ESM) to assess positive and negative schizotypy in daily life in a non-clinical sample of 412 young adults. ESM is a structured diary technique in which participants are prompted at random times during the day to complete assessments of their current experiences.
As hypothesized, positive schizotypy was associated with increased negative affect, thought impairment, suspiciousness, negative beliefs about current activities and feelings of rejection, but not with social disinterest or decreased positive affect. Negative schizotypy, on the other hand, was associated with decreased positive affect and pleasure in daily life, increased negative affect, and decreases in social contact and interest. Both positive schizotypy and negative schizotypy were associated with the desire to be alone when with others. However, this was moderated by anxiety in positive schizotypy and by diminished positive affect in negative schizotypy.
The results support the construct validity of a multidimensional model of schizotypy and the ecological validity of the positive and negative schizotypy dimensions. ESM appears to be a promising method for examining the daily life experiences of schizotypic individuals.
A novel output-feedback super-twisting algorithm design is proposed for uncertain multivariable plants. In order to allow global finite-time exact tracking in the presence of a rather general class ...of matched nonlinear disturbances which may depend on measured and/or unmeasured states, the algorithm is designed with variable gains. This represents a significant extension of a recently proposed nondecoupled multivariable super-twisting algorithm, based on state-feedback with fixed gains, to the case of output-feedback with variable gains.

This definitive work offers a new approach to the period film at the turn of the twenty-first century, examining the ways in which contemporary cinema recreates the historical past. This book ...explores the relation between visual motifs and cultural representation in a range of key films by James Ivory, Martin Scorsese and Jane Campion, among others. Looking at the mannerist taste for citation, detail and stylisation, the author argues for an aesthetic of fragments and figures central to the period film as an international genre. Three key figures - the house, the tableau and the letter - structure a critical journey through a selection of detailed case studies, in relation to changing notions of visual style, melodrama, and gender. This seeks to place this popular but often undervalued genre in a new light and to rethink its significance in the context of key debates in film studies.

Door te kijken naar de maniëristische voorkeur voor citatie, detail en stilering, pleit de auteur voor een esthetiek van fragmenten en figuren die centraal staan in de historische kostuumdrama's als een internationaal genre. A protocol for culturing chestnut axillary shoots by temporary immersion in liquid medium was developed. The influence of type of explant, support material, bioreactor, and immersion was investigated ...for five artificial hybrids and five natural hybrids of Asian and European chestnut selected for resistance to ink disease. The type of explant influenced shoot quality and proliferation rates, and basal explants with callus produced more and longer shoots than apical and nodal segments. Use of rockwool cubes as support material prevented hyperhydricity and allowed proliferation of explants in Murashige and Skoog medium with half-strength nitrates supplemented with 0.22 µM BA and 3 % sucrose, cultured both in plantform™ and RITA
®
vessels with three or six immersions per day and additional aeration of 1 min per hour in the case of plantform™ bioreactors. Basal explants cultured in plantform™ for 5 weeks produced long shoots suitable for rooting, whereas apical and nodal explants cultured in plantform™ or RITA
®
produced shorter shoots that were suitable for maintenance of stock. For most of the clones, similar or higher proliferation rates were observed when cultured in liquid medium than in semisolid medium, with the additional benefit of cost-reduction of the former system. Shoots developed in liquid medium were submitted to ex vitro root induction by dipping in indole-3-butyric acid, and acclimatized under greenhouse conditions. This is the first demonstration of the production of chestnut plantlets from shoots cultured in liquid medium, and the protocol presented here shows good potential for application in large-scale propagation.
