ABSTRACTGeoparsing is a method for automatic extraction of geographic coordinates on the basis of unstructured text and content. The method is also usable for metadata of immovable, movable and ...intangible cultural heritage especially when geographic coordinates were not part of metadata description in documentation system. In this paper the usability and efficiency of online geoparsing services are presented, with the emphasis on e-service Europeana Geoparser. The analysis of spatial accuracy of the Europeana Geoparser is presented with the analysis of the Slovenian cultural heritage objects. At the end an evaluation of usability of the method for automated extraction of geographic coordinates for cultural heritage is given and debated.
Public libraries play a vital role in providing information, education, and cultural activities to local populations. Digitization and the Internet have changed the traditional functions of public ...libraries and caused them to become more community-centered and offer more diverse services. Agent-based geographical modeling is a method for simulating complex urban environments using heuristic and approximated algorithms. The agent model for public libraries developed for this study demonstrates the possibilities for analyzing accessibility, exploring demographic data of potential users, finding underserved areas, and searching for the best locations or relocation sites for libraries. This model has been implemented and tested using the entire public library network of Slovenia. Results suggest that agent-based geographical modeling is a promising method for research in the field of library and information science.
•Agent based geographical modeling (ABGM) is a promising research method in the field of library and information science.•ABGM is a heuristic method for the analysis of the accessibility when exploring demographic data of potential users.•ABGM supports the identification of underserved areas and searching for the best (re)locations sites for libraries.•ABGM results deepen the knowledge of potential library users.•Library administrators can use ABGM results in everyday decision-making and planning of the public library network.

The article presents the project Spatial Analysis of the public library network in Slovenia; the approach, related work, methods used, main findings, impacts, and transferability to other environments. The network of public libraries in Slovenia is quite well developed and consists of slightly over 1,000 service points, i.e., local libraries, their external service points, and bookmobile stops. Public libraries are one of the pillars that preserve the Slovenian language and enhance the local social life. The travel distance to the nearest library is highly important, even more when taking into account social gatherings, access to online databases, and participation in educational and other meetings. Spatial analysis has been performed by using the methods of geographical information systems. A part of the project is also the development of a lightweight Web geodatabase/geoprocessing tool for the planning of library services. Library administrators could directly and easily use the tool for daily and strategic planning to analyze in detail the spatial level of the sociodemographic characteristics of the potential users in the vicinity. The findings have shown significant differences among regions, recommended improvements of the library network, suggested the refinement of the role of the library services according to the perceived needs of the local people, and confirmed the importance of the mobile libraries for rural and remote areas.
The proposed model is a computer aided system for evaluating the value of spatial sites of properties, both present as well as simulations of future conditions following hypothetical directions of ...development, strategic or concrete spatial decisions. The model is built on classical methods of mass appraisal of property, which are supported by a geographical information model. It introduces significant novelties in the field: the use of methods of analytical hierarchical processing for determining technical coefficients of site advantages. The model was developed in the research Development and implementation of a regional simulation model for the Ljubljana urban region, financed by the City municipality of Ljubljana.

Information and tele-communication technology are increasingly affecting life and employment. According to predictions, more than 80% of all business operations will be carried out electronically ...through so called e-business. Recently even in Slovenia discussions have begun on “e-government”. Despite desired or undesired control, virtual networks are changing urban systems into e-urban systems. The extent of benefits to the public also depend on planners. The article presents concepts with the signature “e” to describe urban systems, day-to-day life, real-estate and simulation.
The paper describes the background, approach and results with current highlights of the geographical knowledge map initiative. The initiative is an effort of some Europeana partners to reuse cultural ...heritage metadata for geolocation services to enable map-based browsing and queries, spatial analyses and navigation through European cultural heritage.
