We describe the design and operation of a system for xenon liquefaction in which the condenser is separated from the liquid storage vessel. The condenser is cooled by a pulse tube cryocooler, while ...the vessel is cooled only by the liquid xenon itself. This arrangement facilitates liquid particle detector research by allowing easy access to the upper and lower flanges of the vessel. We find that an external xenon gas pump is useful for increasing the rate at which cooling power is delivered to the vessel, and we present measurements of the power and efficiency of the apparatus.
An outbreak of septicemia caused by S. zooepidemicus in representatives of 5 species of lower monkeys, viz. Macaca mulatta (5), Macaca nemestrina (1), Macaca fascicularis (2), Cercopithecus aethiops ...(2), Mandrillus sphinx (1), is described. The disease was accompanied by the symptoms of enteric infection and well responded to etiotropic therapy with antibiotics of the penicillin row. The source of this infection was not established. Until now it is one of few descriptions of enteric infection in lower monkeys caused by S.zooepidemicus.

We discuss the design, operation, and calibration of two versions of a xenon gas purity monitor (GPM) developed for the EXO double beta decay program. The devices are sensitive to concentrations of ...oxygen well below 1 ppb at an ambient gas pressure of one atmosphere or more. The theory of operation of the GPM is discussed along with the interactions of oxygen and other impurities with the GPM's tungsten filament. Lab tests and experiences in commissioning the EXO-200 double beta decay experiment are described. These devices can also be used on other noble gases.
The work presents the results of investigations, carried out in different monkey species, on the physiological norms as regards the bactericidal factors of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes ...in the blood, nonenzymatic lysosomal cationic proteins and myeloperoxidase, as well as on changes in these characteristics in monkeys at different periods of their acclimatization at the Institute of Experimental Pathology and Therapy, Sukhumi. The possibility of correcting the characteristics under study by means of the immunostimulating agent levamisole is shown.
The study of the time course of nonenzymatic lysosomal cation proteins in monkeys (rhesus macaques) revealed its correlation with the clinical manifestations of the developing disease. At the period ...of pronounced clinical manifestations of the disease the cation protein indices decreased. They returned to the initial level when the general state of the animals improved, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate decreased and the leukocyte formula became normal. The determination of the cation protein level can serve as an additional test for the evaluation of the natural resistance of the body.
The comparative study of two group B meningococcal vaccines manufactured in the USSR and in Cuba was made. The vaccine manufactured in the USSR contained the noncovalent compound of group B Neisseria ...meningitidis polysaccharide and outer membrane protein, and the Cuban vaccine contained group B N. meningitidis outer membrane proteins and group C N. meningitidis polysaccharide. The data obtained in this study indicated that both vaccines possessed immunological potency evaluated according to their capacity to stimulate the formation of bactericidal antibodies, whose level was found to increase eightfold after the immunization of monkeys in two injections. Besides, group B meningococcal vaccines did not induce the suppression of nonspecific protective activity characteristics of the body and did not stimulate the formation of autoantibodies to brain and liver tissues, which was indicative of the safety of these vaccines.
