This study analyzes trends in precipitable water (PW) over land and ocean from 1988 to 2011, the PW–surface temperature Ts
relationship, and their diurnal asymmetry using homogenized radiosonde data, ...microwave satellite observations, and ground-based global positioning system (GPS) measurements. It is found that positivePWtrends predominate over the globe, with larger magnitudes over ocean than over land. The PW trend is correlated with surface warming spatially over ocean with a pattern correlation coefficient of 0.51. The PW percentage increase rate normalized by Ts

is larger and closer to the rate implied by the Clausius–Clapeyron (C–C) equation over ocean than over land. Data streams classification is an important approach to get useful knowledge from massive and dynamic data. Because of concept drift, traditional data mining techniques cannot be directly applied in ...data streams environment. Extreme learning machine (ELM) is a single hidden layer feedforward neural network (SLFN), comparing with the traditional neural network (e.g. BP network), ELM has a faster speed, so it is very suitable for real-time data processing. In order to deal with the challenge in data streams classification, a new approach based on extreme learning machine is proposed in this paper. The approach utilizes ELMs as base classifiers and adaptively decides the number of the neurons in hidden layer, in addition, activation functions are also randomly selected from a series of functions to improve the performance of the approach. Finally, the algorithm trains a series of classifiers and the decision results for unlabeled data are made by weighted voting strategy. When the concept in data streams keeps stable, every classifier is incrementally updated by using new data; if concept drift is detected, the classifiers with weak performance will be cleared away. In the experiment, we used 7 artificial data sets and 9 real data sets from UCI repository to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. The testing results showed, comparing with the conventional classification methods for data streams such as ELM, BP, AUE2 and Learn++.MF, on most data sets, the new approach could not only be simplest in the structure, but also get a higher and more stable accuracy with lower time consuming.
A modified topology of the 2-D multibeam antenna array fed by a passive beamforming network (BFN) is proposed by introducing two sets of vertical interconnections into the conventional array ...configuration. Different from the traditional design, the new array structure can be integrated into multilayered planar substrates conveniently, which has advantages of low loss characteristics, ease of realization, and low fabrication cost for millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. A 4×4 multibeam antenna array that can generate 16 beams is then designed, fabricated, and measured in order to demonstrate the correctness of the proposed topology. As the crucial components of the design, two kinds of aperture-coupled magnetoelectric dipole antenna elements with multilayered feed structures and three types of vertical interconnections consisting of the vertical substrate integrated waveguides are investigated, respectively. Wide bandwidth of 16.4%, stable radiation beams, and gain up to 14.7 dBi are achieved by the fabricated prototype. The proposed array configuration provides a new mean to implement the relatively large size 2-D multibeam antenna arrays with planar passive BFNs, which would be attractive for future mmWave wireless systems used for 5G communications and other applications.
Cytosolic sensing of pathogens and damage by myeloid and barrier epithelial cells assembles large complexes called inflammasomes, which activate inflammatory caspases to process cytokines (IL-1β) and ...gasdermin D (GSDMD). Cleaved GSDMD forms membrane pores, leading to cytokine release and inflammatory cell death (pyroptosis). Inhibiting GSDMD is an attractive strategy to curb inflammation. Here we identify disulfiram, a drug for treating alcohol addiction, as an inhibitor of pore formation by GSDMD but not other members of the GSDM family. Disulfiram blocks pyroptosis and cytokine release in cells and lipopolysaccharide-induced septic death in mice. At nanomolar concentration, disulfiram covalently modifies human/mouse Cys191/Cys192 in GSDMD to block pore formation. Disulfiram still allows IL-1β and GSDMD processing, but abrogates pore formation, thereby preventing IL-1β release and pyroptosis. The role of disulfiram in inhibiting GSDMD provides new therapeutic indications for repurposing this safe drug to counteract inflammation, which contributes to many human diseases.
Cardiac fibrosis is strongly associated with obesity and metabolic dysfunction and may contribute to the increased incidence of heart failure, atrial arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death in obese ...subjects. This review discusses the evidence linking obesity and myocardial fibrosis in animal models and human patients, focusing on the fundamental pathophysiological alterations that may trigger fibrogenic signaling, the cellular effectors of fibrosis, and the molecular signals that may regulate the fibrotic response. Obesity is associated with a wide range of pathophysiological alterations (such as pressure and volume overload, metabolic dysregulation, neurohumoral activation, and systemic inflammation); their relative role in mediating cardiac fibrosis is poorly defined. Activation of fibroblasts likely plays a major role in obesity-associated fibrosis; however, inflammatory cells, cardiomyocytes, and vascular cells may also contribute to fibrogenic signaling. Several molecular processes have been implicated in regulation of the fibrotic response in obesity. Activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, induction of transforming growth factor β, oxidative stress, advanced glycation end-products, endothelin 1, Rho-kinase signaling, leptin-mediated actions, and upregulation of matricellular proteins (such as thrombospondin 1) may play a role in the development of fibrosis in models of obesity and metabolic dysfunction. Moreover, experimental evidence suggests that obesity and insulin resistance profoundly affect the fibrotic and remodeling response after cardiac injury. Understanding the pathways implicated in obesity-associated fibrosis may lead to the development of novel therapies to prevent heart failure and attenuate postinfarction cardiac remodeling in patients with obesity.
Previous studies have used the anaerobic threshold (AT) to non-invasively predict muscle fatigue. This study proposes a novel method for the automatic classification of muscle fatigue based on ...surface electromyography (sEMG). The sEMG data were acquired from 20 participants during an incremental test on a cycle ergometer using sEMG sensors placed on the vastus rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), and gastrocnemius (GA) muscles of the left leg. The ventilation volume (VE), oxygen uptake (VO2), and carbon dioxide production (VCO2) data of each participant were collected during the test. Then, we extracted the time-domain and frequency-domain features of the sEMG signal denoised by the improved wavelet packet threshold denoising algorithm. In this study, we propose a new muscle fatigue recognition model based on the long short-term memory (LSTM) network. The LSTM network was trained to classify muscle fatigue using sEMG signal features. The results showed that the improved wavelet packet threshold function has better performance in denoising sEMG signals than hard threshold and soft threshold functions. The classification performance of the muscle fatigue recognition model proposed in this paper is better than that of CNN (convolutional neural network), SVM (support vector machine), and the classification models proposed by other scholars. The best performance of the LSTM network was achieved with 70% training, 10% validation, and 20% testing rates. Generally, the proposed model can be used to monitor muscle fatigue.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of biofertilizers on the structure and diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial community of maize. Different biofertilizers were applied to maize. ...The physical and chemical properties of rhizosphere soil samples were analyzed and the rhizosphere bacteria were analyzed by 16S amplicon sequencing. The results showed that treatment with Bacillus licheniformis and B. amyloliquefaciens as biofertilizers increased the soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen, total phosphorus (TP), available phosphorus (AP), and available potassium (AK) contents, indicating that the plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in the biofertilizers might help the host plant to produce root exudates that, in return, recruit beneficial communities due to available sugars, amino acids, organic acids, vitamins, and polymers. The rhizosphere of maize treated with B. subtilis biofertilizer had the highest diversity and richness. However, the rhizosphere treated with the combined bacterial strains had the lowest diversity and richness, which might be due to the directional increase of the abundance of some bacteria with special functions, but the decrease of the overall bacterial community diversity in the soil. The dominant bacterial phyla were Proteobacteria (32.2%-34.6%), Acidobacteria (15.0%-21.0%), Actinobacteria (13.1%-17.2%), and Gemmatimonadetes (9.0%-10.8%), and the dominant bacterial species were Aciditerrimonas ferrireducens JCM 15389 (4.3%-5.2%), Gemmatimonas aurantiaca (3.2%-4.1%), and Pyrinomonas methylaliphatogenes (2.1%-4.8%). The significantly enriched bacterial functions were associated with amino acid metabolism, sugar metabolism, and energy metabolism pathways. The results of a redundancy analysis showed that SOM, TP, and AK were the main factors affecting the microbial community structure in the maize rhizosphere. In conclusion, the application of biofertilizers increased the diversity and richness of the bacterial community in the maize rhizosphere soil. However, combined strain treatment was failed and not an ideal strategy due to the lowest abundance and diversity.

A novel substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) fed horizontally polarized endfire magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna composed of an open-ended SIW with broad walls vertical to substrates and a pair of ...electric dipoles realized by four metallic patches is proposed. Simple configuration and excellent performance including an impedance bandwidth of 46.5%, stable gain of around 6 dBi, and symmetrical cardioid radiation patterns with low backward radiation and low cross polarizations are achieved. An SIW 90° twist integrated in three-layered substrate is implemented in order to connect the ME-dipole antenna conveniently to the SIW beam-forming network with broad walls parallel to substrates. A 4 × 4 SIW Butler matrix with a three-layered zigzag topology is then designed, which enables a size reduction of 45% for the matrix compared with conventional single-layered configuration but not affecting its operating characteristics. By employing a 2 × 4 ME-dipole array with 90° twists, two-folded Butler matrices and four SIW 3 dB E-plane couplers, a multibeam endfire array that can radiate eight beams scanning in two dimensions is designed at the 60 GHz band. The fabricated prototype verifies that a wide impedance bandwidth of 22.1%, gain varying from 10 to 13 dBi and stable radiation beams can be obtained. Due to good performance and the compact structure with low fabrication costs, the proposed design would be attractive for future millimeter-wave wireless applications including 5G communications and the WiGig system.
A global, 10-yr (February 1997–April 2006), 2-hourly dataset of atmospheric precipitable water (PW) was produced from ground-based global positioning system (GPS) measurements of zenith tropospheric ...delay (ZTD) at approximately 350 International Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Service (IGS) ground stations. A total of 130 pairs of radiosonde and GPS stations are found within a 50-km distance and 100-m elevation of each other. At these stations, 14 types of radiosondes are launched and the following 3 types of humidity sensors are used: capacitive polymer, carbon hygristor, and goldbeater’s skin. The PW comparison between radiosonde and GPS data reveals three types of systematic errors in the global radiosonde PW data: measurement biases of the 14 radiosonde types along with their characteristics, long-term temporal inhomogeneity, and diurnal sampling errors of once- and twice-daily radiosonde data. The capacitive polymer generally shows mean dry bias of −1.19 mm (−6.8%). However, the carbon hygristor and goldbeater’s skin hygrometers have mean moist biases of 1.01 mm (3.4%) and 0.76 mm (5.4%), respectively. The protective shield over the humidity sensor boom introduced in late 2000 reduces the PW dry bias from 6.1% and 2.6% in 2000 to 3.9% and −1.14% (wet bias) in 2001 for the Vaisala RS80A and RS80H, respectively. The dry bias in Vaisala radiosondes has larger magnitudes during the day than at night, especially for RS90 and RS92, with a day–night difference of 5%–7%. The time series of monthly mean PW differences between the radiosonde and GPS are able to detect significant changes associated with known radiosonde type changes. Such changes would have a significant impact on the long-term trend estimate. Diurnal sampling errors of twice-daily radiosonde data are generally within 2%, but can be as much as 10%–15% for the once-daily soundings. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the global GPS PW data are useful for identifying and quantifying several kinds of systematic errors in global radiosonde PW data. Several recommendations are made for future needs of global radiosonde and GPS networks and data.

A novel dipole array loaded substrate integrated H-plane sectoral horn antenna with a simple three-layered geometry is proposed. The dipole array integrated into two extra dielectric strips is ...connected to the top and bottom edges of the horn aperture. Both the horn aperture and the dipole array are effectively radiated together. A wide impedance bandwidth of 44% for |S 11 | <; -10 dB that can cover the entire Ka-band is verified by a fabricated prototype. Additionally, stable symmetrical radiation pattern with low cross polarizations, low backward radiation, and gain up to 12 dBi with a variation of 3 dB can also be obtained throughout the whole operating band. The proposed antenna provides a new mean to design wideband substrate integrated horns with excellent endfire radiation, which would be attractive for future wideband and multiband millimeter-wave wireless applications, including the fifth generation (5G) mobile communications and the WiGig system.
