In recent years the search for dark matter has intensified with competitive bounds coming from collider searches, direct detection, and indirect detection. Collider searches at the Large ...Hadron Collider (LHC) lack the necessary center-of-mass energy to probe TeV-scale dark matter. It is TeV-scale dark matter, however, that remains viable for many models of supersymmetry. In this paper, we study the reach of a 100 TeV proton-proton collider for neutralino dark matter and compare to 14 TeV LHC projections. We employ a supersymmetric simplified model approach and present reach estimates from monojet searches, soft lepton searches, and disappearing track searches. The searches are applied to pure neutralino spectra, compressed neutralino spectra, and coannihilating spectra. We find a factor of 4-5 improvement in mass reach in going from 14 TeV to 100 TeV. More specifically, we find that given a 1% systematic uncertainty, a 100 TeV collider could exclude winos up to 1.4 TeV and higgsinos up to 850 GeV in the monojet channel. Coannihilation scenarios with gluinos can be excluded with neutralino masses of 6.2 TeV, with stops at 2.8 TeV, and with squarks at 4.0 TeV. Using a soft lepton search, compressed spectra with a chargino-neutralino splitting of Δ
m
= 20 − 30 GeV can exclude neutralinos at ~1 TeV. Given a sufficiently long chargino lifetime, the disappearing track search is very effective and we extrapolate current experimental bounds to estimate that a ~2TeVwinocouldbediscoveredanda ~3TeVwinocouldbeexcluded.
Analogy is a common method in ancient Chinese literary criticism, which means that critics like to use concepts in different fields for literary criticism. The criticism of analogy reflects a cross ...category thinking mode, which originates from the cross category imagination when Chinese characters were created. Therefore, Dai Zhen, a linguist in the Qing Dynasty, believed that the thinking way of exposition (赋),comparison (比) and affective image (兴) in traditional literary theory is as same as the cross category imagination. This paper studies analogy from the perspective of humane studies (Geisteswissenschaften), pointing out that Chinese is different from Indo-European languages and does not use logical expression. Compared with Indo-European languages, Chinese thinking lays stress on process and is more suitable for describing experience (Erlebnis). Therefore, the study of the history of Chinese literary criticism should pay more attention to the process and overall history, rather than the history of idea
Gene essentiality is a variable phenotypic trait, but to what extent and how essential genes can become dispensable for viability remain unclear. Here, we investigate 'bypass of essentiality (BOE)' - ...an underexplored type of digenic genetic interaction that renders essential genes dispensable. Through analyzing essential genes on one of the six chromosome arms of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, we find that, remarkably, as many as 27% of them can be converted to non-essential genes by BOE interactions. Using this dataset we identify three principles of essentiality bypass: bypassable essential genes tend to have lower importance, tend to exhibit differential essentiality between species, and tend to act with other bypassable genes. In addition, we delineate mechanisms underlying bypassable essentiality, including the previously unappreciated mechanism of dormant redundancy between paralogs. The new insights gained on bypassable essentiality deepen our understanding of genotype-phenotype relationships and will facilitate drug development related to essential genes.
Inspired by the recent studies on the thermodynamics of AdS black holes in the restricted phase space formalism, we propose a similar formalism for the thermodynamics of non-AdS black holes with ...variable Newton constant. It is shown that, by introducing the new variables N,μ, where N is proportional to the inverse Newton constant and μ its conjugate variable, referred to as the chemical potential, the black hole thermodynamics can be formulated in a form which is consistent with the standard extensive thermodynamics for open macroscopic systems, with the first law and the Euler relation hold simultaneously. This formalism has profound implications, in particular, the mass is a homogeneous function of the first order in the extensive variables and the intensive variables are zeroth order homogeneous functions. The chemical potential is shown to be closely related to the Euclidean action evaluated at the black hole configuration.
Magnetized activated carbons (MAC) were prepared by activating rape straw powder, and pyrolyzing at different temperatures, then magnetizing activated carbon by hydrothermal method. MAC-300 had the ...largest adsorption capacity of Pb(II) (253.2 mg/g) and Cd(II) (73.3 mg/g). The adsorption isotherms and kinetics could conform to the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, respectively, indicating that the adsorptive behavior of the adsorbent mainly depends on the non-uniform active points on the surface of the material. Meanwhile, the thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) by MAC-300 was a spontaneous and endothermic reaction. The adsorption capacity of MAC-300 could be improved by properly increasing the pH of the original solution. There was competitive adsorption when high-valent ions were present in solution. In combination with various characterizations and comparison tests of samples after adsorption, the adsorption mechanisms include surface electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and co-precipitation. The results indicated that the MAC material was a potential material to remove heavy metal ions from the aqueous solution.

Neutral-atom arrays have recently emerged as a promising platform for quantum information processing. One important remaining roadblock for the large-scale application of these systems is the ability ...to perform error-corrected quantum operations. To entangle the qubits in these systems, atoms are typically excited to Rydberg states, which could decay or give rise to various correlated errors that cannot be addressed directly through traditional methods of fault-tolerant quantum computation. In this work, we provide the first complete characterization of these sources of error in a neutral-atom quantum computer and propose hardware-efficient, fault-tolerant quantum computation schemes that mitigate them. Notably, we develop a novel and distinctly efficient method to address the most important errors associated with the decay of atomic qubits to states outside of the computational subspace. These advances allow us to significantly reduce the resource cost for fault-tolerant quantum computation compared to existing, general-purpose schemes. Our protocols can be implemented in the near term using state-of-the-art neutral-atom platforms with qubits encoded in both alkali and alkaline-earth atoms.
The Qinling orogen is a typical composite orogen for understanding multi-stages of magmatism and orogenic processes. Many studies have been carried out on the magmatic rocks in the Qinling orogen but ...their petrogenesis is still controversial. This pa- per presents a review of all granitoid rocks based on previous and new studies of geochronology and geochemistry. Four dis- tinct periods of granitoid magmatism, Neoproterozoic (979-711 Ma), Paleozoic (507-400 Ma), Early Mesozoic (250-185 Ma) and Late Mesozoic (160-100 Ma), have been recognized from the Qinling orogen according to zircon U-Pb ages, intrusion as- sociations and deformation, as well as regional geology. The Neoproterozoic granitic rocks consist of three stages at 979-911, 894-815 and 759-711 Ma, respectively, corresponding to strongly deformed S-type, weakly deformed I-type and A-type gran- itoids. They can be interpreted as magmatic occurrences in syn-collisional, post-collisional and extensional settings, respec- tively, in response to old continental terranes of the Neoproterozoic tectonomagmatic events in the old continents of China, such as South China and Tarim cratons. Although this continental terrane would be involved in the Phanerozoic Qinling orog- eny, the Neoproterozoic magmatic rocks are not the products of the Qinling orogenic processes. The Paleozoic magmatic rocks can be classified into three stages at 507-470, 460-422 and 415-400 Ma, respectively. The first-stage magmatism is temporal- ly associated with ultra-high pressure metamorphism in the North Qinling terrane. These magmatic rocks are interpreted as magmatic occurrences in subductional, syn-collisional and post-collisional settings, respectively. The Early Mesozoic mag- matic rocks occur in two stages at 252-185 and 225-200 Ma, respectively. The first-stage granitoids are mainly represented by I-type quartz diorites and granodiorites, and the second stage by granodiorites and monzogranites with the 1- to A-type charac- teristics and some with rapakivi textures. Their emplacement ages and geochemical parameters such as A/CNK, K2O/Na2O ra- tios and εNd(t) values do not show any polarity change in perpendicular to subduction/collision zone. Therefore, all these Early Mesozoic granitoids are unlikely the product of continental subduction as some researchers suggested. Instead, they are plausi- bly related to the subduction of the Mianlue Ocean and the subsequent collision between the South China Craton and the South Qinling terrane. The Late Mesozoic granitoids were emplaced mainly at two stages of 160-130 and 120-100 Ma, and charac- terized by the evolution from I- to I-A- and A-type granitoids. These characteristics are consistent with the granitoid magmatic evolution from contractional to extensional settings during the Jurassic/Cretaceous in eastern China. Accordingly, the Late Mesozoic granitoid rocks in the Qinling orogen probably have a similar petrogenetic mechanism to those of the huge magmatic belt along the western Pacific margin, i.e., intra-continent magmatism related to a far-field effect of the subduction of Paleo-Pacific plate.
To discuss the value of computed tomography (CT) iterative reconstruction technique combined with target scanning in the diagnosis of solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas (SPTP).
The clinical ...information and CT examination data of 27 patients with SPTP were retrospectively analyzed, and the general condition and CT performance of the patients were observed. The CT image reconstruction algorithm of all patients used iterative reconstruction technique combined with the application of target scanning technique.
A total of 27 patients were included in this study, including 6 males and 21 females, aged 14-72 years with a mean age of 39.6 ± 13.6 years. SPTP was more common in young and middle-aged females, with a low level of tumor markers, dominated by cystic-solid tumors. The combination of CT iterative reconstruction technology and targeted scanning revealed the following: the capsule of SPTP was clear and complete, where calcifications were visible, solid components were progressively enhanced, and rare pancreatic and bile duct dilation was seen. Tumors were cystic-solid in 18 of 27 patients with SPTP, of which the solid components showed isodensity or slightly low-density, with calcifications. The solid components and cyst walls were mildly enhanced during the arterial phase, and were progressively enhanced during the parenchymal phase, portal vein phase, and delayed phase, with their enhancement degree lower than that of normal pancreatic parenchyma, and pancreatic and bile duct dilation was rare. There were no statistical differences in tumor location, morphology, growth pattern, integrity of capsule, cystic or solid, calcifications, and enhancement features between the male group and the female group (P > 0.05).
The iterative reconstruction combined with target scanning clearly displayed the CT features of tumors, helping the diagnosis and clinical treatment of the disease.
Unisexual taxa are commonly considered short-lived as the absence of meiotic recombination is supposed to accumulate deleterious mutations and hinder the creation of genetic diversity. However, the ...gynogenetic gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) with high genetic diversity and wide ecological distribution has outlived its predicted extinction time of a strict unisexual reproduction population. Unlike other unisexual vertebrates, males associated with supernumerary microchromosomes have been observed in gibel carp, which provides a unique system to explore the rationales underlying male occurrence in unisexual lineage and evolution of unisexual reproduction. Here, we identified a massively expanded satellite DNA cluster on microchromosomes of hexaploid gibel carp via comparing with the ancestral tetraploid crucian carp (Carassius auratus). Based on the satellite cluster, we developed a method for single chromosomal fluorescence microdissection and isolated three male-specific microchromosomes in a male metaphase cell. Genomic anatomy revealed that these male-specific microchromosomes contained homologous sequences of autosomes and abundant repetitive elements. Significantly, several potential male-specific genes with transcriptional activity were identified, among which four and five genes displayed male-specific and male-biased expression in gonads, respectively, during the developmental period of sex determination. Therefore, the male-specific microchromosomes resembling common features of sex chromosomes may be the main driving force for male occurrence in gynogenetic gibel carp, which sheds new light on the evolution of unisexual reproduction.
