A trigger track processor, called the eXtremely Fast Tracker (XFT), has been designed for the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) upgrade. This processor identifies high-transverse-momentum (> 1.5 ...GeV/c) charged particles in the new central outer tracking chamber for CDF II. The XFT design is highly parallel to handle the input rate of 183 Gb/s and the output rate of 44 Gb/s. The processor is pipelined and reports the result for a new event every 132 ns. The processor uses three stages: hit classification, segment finding, and segment linking. The pattern recognition algorithms for the three stages are implemented in programmable logic devices (PLDs) which allow in situ modification of the algorithm at any time. The PLDs reside on three different types of modules. The complete system has been installed and commissioned at CDF II. An overview of the track processor and performance in CDF Run II are presented.
The aim of this study was to determine if a reservoir of sub-clinical LGV infection exists in men who have sex with men (MSM), as this finding might account for the recent rise in lymphogranuloma ...venereum (LGV) Chlamydia trachomatis infections among MSM in Canada. MSM without proctitis were enrolled between January and August 2006 in a cross-sectional study. Rectal, urine, serology and pharyngeal specimens were tested for specific C. trachomatis serovars. The median age of the 253 participants was 43 years; 53% were HIV+. We found no active cases of LGV infection; but 20 (8%) participants had positive serology. Thirteen participants (5%) had non-LGV C. trachomatis infections. Unprotected anopenetrative intercourse, rectal enema and drug use were associated with non-LGV C. trachomatis infection. Sub-clinical rectal non-LGV C. trachomatis infection was relatively common but LGV was not identified in our sample. Further studies of screening for non-LGV chlamydia infection in MSM are needed.
The CDF calorimetry readout module, called the ADMEM, has been designed to contain both the analog circuitry which digitizes the phototube charge pulses, and the digital logic which supports the ...readout of the results through the CDF Run 2 DAQ system. The ADMEM module is a 9U/spl times/400 mm VMEbus module, which is housed in a CDF VMEbus VIPPA crate. The ADMEM must support near deadtimeless operation, with data being digitized and stored for possible readout every 132 ns or 7.6 MHz. This paper will discuss the implementation of the analog and digital portions of the ADMEM module, and how the board was laid out to avoid the coupling of digital noise into the analog circuitry.

Background & Aims:
In 2003, a sharp increase in cases of lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) caused by
Chlamydia trachomatis in men who have sex with men was reported in Europe and, recently, cases of LGV ...have been reported in North America.
Methods:
We reviewed 3 cases of LGV proctitis recently diagnosed in Canada.
Results:
All 3 cases occurred in men who had sex with men; 2 of the patients had human immunodeficiency virus infection and 1 subsequently seroconverted. A delay in diagnosis occurred in all 3 patients: 2 patients were misdiagnosed initially with inflammatory bowel disease and 1 patient was treated as a case of non-LGV
C trachomatis.
Conclusions:
Given the recent outbreak, gastroenterologists in Europe and North America need to be familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of LGV because it mimics inflammatory bowel disease endoscopically and histologically.
