The function of endometrial epithelial cells is to secrete various substances that are rich in growth factors and nutrients. These substances support both embryo implantation and its subsequent ...development into a fetus. A vast number of mucins are expressed in endometrial epithelial cells, and they play an important role in regulating the processes of embryo implantation, pregnancy, and parturition. Previous studies have shown that mucin forms a mucus layer covering endometrial epithelial cells, which helps resist damage from foreign bacteria and their toxins. Therefore, this article aims to investigate the location of mucins in the endometrium, the mechanism of mucin secretion by the endometrium, and the regulation of mucins in the uterine epithelium by reproductive hormones, as well as the role of mucins in the protection of the epithelium’s structure. This research aims to provide a foundational understanding for future studies on the role and mechanism of endometrial mucins throughout the pregnancy cycle.
Space debris is growing dramatically with the rapid pace of human exploration of space, which seriously threatens the safety of artificial spacecraft in orbit. Therefore, the active debris removal ...(ADR) is important. This review aims to review the ADR methods and to advance related research in the future. The current research and development status are clearly demonstrated by mapping knowledge domain and charts. In this paper, the latest research results are classified and summarized in detail from two aspects of space debris capture and removal. The scheme comparison and evaluation of all ADR methods are performed, and the applicable scopes of various methods are summarized. Each ADR method is scored using a cobweb evaluation model based on six indicators. Future development of ADR is discussed to promote further research interest.
For an infectious disease such as COVID-19, we present a new four-stage vaccination model (unvaccinated, dose 1 + 2, booster, repeated boosters), which examines the impact of vaccination coverage, ...vaccination rate, generation interval, control reproduction number, vaccine efficacies and rates of waning immunity upon the dynamics of infection. We derive a single equation that allows computation of equilibrium prevalence and incidence of infection, given knowledge about these parameters and variable values. Based upon a 20-compartment model, we develop a numerical simulation of the associated differential equations. The model is not a forecasting or even predictive one, given the uncertainty about several biological parameter values. Rather, it is intended to aid a qualitative understanding of how equilibrium levels of infection may be impacted upon, by the parameters of the system. We examine one-at-a-time sensitivity analysis around a base case scenario. The key finding which should be of interest to policymakers is that while factors such as improved vaccine efficacy, increased vaccination rates, lower waning rates and more stringent non-pharmaceutical interventions might be thought to improve equilibrium levels of infection, this might only be done to good effect if vaccination coverage on a recurrent basis is sufficiently high.
Pathologists generally pan, focus, zoom and scan tissue biopsies either under microscopes or on digital images for diagnosis. With the rapid development of whole-slide digital scanners for ...histopathology, computer-assisted digital pathology image analysis has attracted increasing clinical attention. Thus, the working style of pathologists is also beginning to change. Computer-assisted image analysis systems have been developed to help pathologists perform basic examinations. This paper presents a novel lightweight detection framework for automatic tumor detection in whole-slide histopathology images. We develop the Double Magnification Combination (DMC) classifier, which is a modified DenseNet-40 to make patch-level predictions with only 0.3 million parameters. To improve the detection performance of multiple instances, we propose an improved adaptive sampling method with superpixel segmentation and introduce a new heuristic factor, local sampling density, as the convergence condition of iterations. In postprocessing, we use a CNN model with 4 convolutional layers to regulate the patch-level predictions based on the predictions of adjacent sampling points and use linear interpolation to generate a tumor probability heatmap. The entire framework was trained and validated using the dataset from the Camelyon16 Grand Challenge and Hubei Cancer Hospital. In our experiments, the average AUC was 0.95 in the test set for pixel-level detection.

Polymer composites have been widely used in the aviation, aerospace, automotive, military, medical, agricultural and industrial fields due to their excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, ...flame retardant, impact resistance and corrosion resistance. In general, their manufacturing process is one of the key factors affecting the life cycle of polymer composites. This article provides an overview of typical manufacturing technologies, including surface coating, additive manufacturing and magnetic pulse powder compaction, which are normally used to reduce the failure behaviour of polymer composites in service so that the quality of composite products can be improved. Advanced polymer composite powder manufacturing processes, the processing mechanism and experimental methods are described, and the influence of different manufacturing processes on the moulding quality is revealed. This investigation can provide suitable methods for the selection of manufacturing technology to improve the quality of polymer composite products.
Climate warming nowadays has caused people to increasingly enhance public awareness about carbon emissions from industries. In the storing industry, inventory management for deteriorating items is ...crucial in the business competition. To slow down the deterioration and ensure the quality of products, the items are usually stored in certain temperature-controlled environment. However, a lot of carbon emissions of the inventory system are caused by these warehousing activities. In a finite panning period, this paper studies a continuous review inventory system and proposes inventory models to analyze the impacts of carbon emissions on inventory system for deteriorating items with a general time-varying demand, in which shortages are allowed, and the customer demand during shortage period is partially backlogged till the next replenishment. Under carbon emission regulations, the existence and uniqueness of the optimal solution to each model is explored and comparisons of optimality among the proposed models are given. Numerical examples and robust analysis of the models are presented to illustrate the applicability in practice. Some management insights about inventory policies and emission reduction strategies are obtained.
Silicosis, a disease characterized by diffuse fibrosis of the lung tissue, is caused by long-term inhalation of free silica (SiO2) dust in the occupational environment and is currently the most ...serious occupational diseases of pneumoconiosis. Several studies have suggested that alveolar type Ⅱ epithelial cells (AEC Ⅱ) undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) as one of the crucial components of silicosis in lung fibroblasts. A2aR can play a critical regulatory role in fibrosis-related diseases by modulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, but its function in the EMT process of silicosis has not been explained. In this study, an EMT model of A549 cells was established. The results revealed that A2aR expression is reduced in the EMT model. Furthermore, activation of A2aR or suppression of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway reversed the EMT process, while the opposite result was obtained by inhibiting A2aR. In addition, activation of A2aR in a mouse silicosis model inhibited the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and ameliorated the extent of silica-induced lung fibrosis in mice. To sum up, we uncovered that A2aR inhibits fibrosis and the EMT process in silicosis by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. Our study can provide an experimental basis for elucidating the role of A2aR in the development of silicosis and offer new ideas for further exploration of interventions for silicosis.

Pneumoconiosis is one of the most serious occupational diseases worldwide. Silicosis due to prolonged inhalation of free silica dust during occupational activities is one of the main types. ...Cuproptosis is a newly discovered mode of programmed cell death characterized by the accumulation of free copper in the cell, which ultimately leads to cell death. Increased copper in the serum of silicosis patients, suggests that the development of silicosis is accompanied by changes in copper metabolism, but whether cuproptosis is involved in the progression of silicosis is actually to be determined. To test this hypothesis, we screened the genetic changes in patients with idiopathic fibrosis by bioinformatics methods and predicted and functionally annotated the cuproptosis-related genes among them. Subsequently, we established a mouse silicosis model and detected the concentration of copper ions and the activity of ceruloplasmin (CP) in serum, as well as changes of the concentration of copper and cuproptosis related genes in mouse lung tissues. We identified 9 cuproptosis-related genes among the differential genes in patients with IPF at different times and the tissue-specific expression levels of ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) and Lipoyl synthase (LIAS) proteins. Furthermore, serum CP activity and copper ion levels in silicosis mice were elevated on days 7th and 56th after silica exposure. The expression of CP in mouse lung tissue elevated at all stages after silica exposure. The mRNA level of FDX1 decreased on days 7th and 56th, and the protein level remained in accordance with the mRNA level on day 56th. LIAS and Dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (DLD) levels were downregulated at all times after silica exposure. In addition, Heatshockprotein70 (HSP70) expression was increased on day 56. In brief, our results demonstrate that there may be cellular cuproptosis during the development of experimental silicosis in mice and show synchronization with enhanced copper loading in mice.

Cherenkov radiation (CR) excited by fast charges can serve as on-chip light sources with a nanoscale footprint and broad frequency range. The reversed CR, which usually occurs in media with the ...negative refractive index or negative group-velocity dispersion, is highly desired because it can effectively separate the radiated light from fast charges thanks to the obtuse radiation angle. However, reversed CR at the mid-infrared remains challenging due to the significant loss of conventional artificial structures. Here we observe mid-infrared analogue polaritonic reversed CR in a natural van der Waals (vdW) material (i.e., α-MoO
), whose hyperbolic phonon polaritons exhibit negative group velocity. Further, the real-space image results of analogue polaritonic reversed CR indicate that the radiation distributions and angles are closely related to the in-plane isofrequency contours of α-MoO
, which can be further tuned in the heterostructures based on α-MoO
. This work demonstrates that natural vdW heterostructures can be used as a promising platform of reversed CR to design on-chip mid-infrared nano-light sources.
