Oxaliplatin is a first-line clinical drug in cancer treatment and its side effects of peripheral neuropathic pain have also attracted much attention. Neuroinflammation induced by oxidative ...stress-mediated activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) plays an important role in the course. Current studies have shown that curcumin has various biological activities like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and so on, while few studies were conducted about its role in oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathic pain. The aim of this study is to verify the mechanism of curcumin alleviating oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathic pain. Intraperitoneal injection with oxaliplatin (4 mg/kg body weight) was given to the rats twice a week and last for four weeks to establish the model rats. Gavage administration of curcumin (12.5, 25, and 50 mg/kg body weight, respectively) was conducted for consecutive 28 d to explore the effects and potential mechanism. Our results showed that curcumin administration could increase mechanical withdrawal threshold and decrease the paw-withdrawal times of cold allodynia significantly; meanwhile, motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) and sense nerve conduction velocity (SNCV) were both increased and the injured neurons of the spinal cord were repaired. In addition, curcumin administration increased superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT) and reduced malondialdehyde (MDA). Moreover, the curcumin operation inhibited the activated of NF-κB and level of inflammatory factors like tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). In conclusion, these findings suggested that curcumin could alleviate oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathic pain; the mechanism might be inhibiting oxidative stress-mediated activation of NF-κB and mitigating neuroinflammation.
Transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1), a member of the transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) channel family, is a nonselective cation channel that is widely expressed in ...sensory nerve fibers and nonneuronal cells, including certain vascular endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells. The activation of TRPV1 may be involved in the regulation of various physiological functions, such as the release of inflammatory mediators in the body, gastrointestinal motility function, and temperature regulation. In recent years, a large number of studies have revealed that TRPV1 plays an important role in the physiological and pathological conditions of the digestive system, cardiovascular system, and respiratory system, but there is no systematic report on TRPV1. The objective of this review is to explain the function and effects of TRPV1 on specific diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, and asthma, and to further investigate the intrinsic relationship between the expression and function of TRPV1 in those diseases to find new therapeutic targets for the cure of related diseases.
The high-temperature heat pump steam system (HTHPS) is an effective way to replace the calcining boiler's steam. However, the large temperature span of the system leads to colossal exergy loss of ...refrigerant in expansion valves and other components. Therefore, it is hoped to adopt the dual-flash vaporization process to improve the system's steam production performance. In this paper, three thermodynamic models and exergy models of HTHPS with a double flash evaporation process are established. Furthermore, this paper uses the multivariate simulated annealing algorithm to calculate the optimal COP of the system. Then, by comparing the single-stage compression (SC) system and the quasi-two-stage compression (QTC) system, the influence of the dual-flash vaporization process on HTHPS is analyzed. The results show that under the same environment, the COP of the dual-flash vaporization process compression system is 23.8% 44.54% higher than that of the SC system. With the increase of the system temperature span, the flash steam supplemental process brings the system to improved thermodynamic performance. Moreover, the exergy model of the dual-flash system is closest to the reversed Carnot cycle, when the evaporation temperature is 50 °C and the condensing temperature is 110 °C.
Although dietary calcium intake has long been recommended for disease prevention, the influence of calcium in development of cancer in the upper gastrointestinal tract has not been explored. Here, we ...assess the roles of calcium and calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) in gastric cancer development. CaSR expression was enhanced in gastric cancer specimens, which positively correlated with serum calcium concentrations, tumor progression, poor survival, and male gender in gastric cancer patients. CaSR and transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 4 (TRPV4) were colocalized in gastric cancer cells, and CaSR activation evoked TRPV4-mediated Ca
entry. Both CaSR and TRPV4 were involved in Ca
-induced proliferation, migration, and invasion of gastric cancer cells through a Ca
/AKT/β-catenin relay, which occurred only in gastric cancer cells or normal cells overexpressing CaSR. Tumor growth and metastasis of gastric cancer depended on CaSR in nude mice. Overall, our findings indicate that calcium may enhance expression and function of CaSR to potentially promote gastric cancer, and that targeting the novel CaSR/TRPV4/Ca
pathway might serve as preventive or therapeutic strategies for gastric cancer.

An experimental study of the rheological properties of mudflows at Lianyungang in China was carried out by the RS6000 rheometer, including steady and dynamic measurements. Five samples with the range ...of mud volume concentration from 0.058 to 0.179 were investigated. Based on the experimental data, a Dual-Herschel-Bulkley model was developed to analyze the flow curve and interpolate the static and dynamic yield stresses. The results show that in the steady measurement, the consolidation time and the system temperature show some effects on the rheogram and the yield stress for the sample with low sediment volume concentration, and the effects are strengthened gradually with the sediment volume concentration increasing. Under a shear stress sweep, two linear visco-elastic regions, showing the viscous and the elastic behaviors respectively, were discovered. Complex viscosity, elastic modulus and loss modulus in the elastic region are several orders of magnitude larger than those in the viscous region. Furthermore, the analysis of experimental data show that both steady and dynamic theological prop- erties can be expressed as appropriate exponential functions of the sediment volume concentration.
There exists a bidirectional relationship between oral health and general well-being, with an imbalance in oral symbiotic flora posing a threat to overall human health. Disruptions in the commensal ...flora can lead to oral diseases, while systemic illnesses can also impact the oral cavity, resulting in the development of oral diseases and disorders.

, known as pathogenic bacteria associated with periodontitis, play a crucial role in linking periodontitis to accompanying systemic diseases. In periodontal tissues, these bacteria, along with their virulence factors, can excessively activate the host immune system through local diffusion, lymphatic circulation, and blood transmission. This immune response disruption contributes to an imbalance in osteoimmune mechanisms, alveolar bone resorption, and potential systemic inflammation. To restore local homeostasis, a deeper understanding of microbiota-host interactions and the immune network phenotype in local tissues is imperative. Defining the immune network phenotype in periodontal tissues offers a promising avenue for investigating the complex characteristics of oral plaque biofilms and exploring the potential relationship between periodontitis and associated systemic diseases. This review aims to provide an overview of the mechanisms underlying

An outbreak of duck astrovirus (DAstV) has occurred in duck farming regions of China, causing substantial economic setbacks in the duck industry. This investigation aimed to examine the variations in ...DAstV pathogenicity among ducks at different age intervals. Infections were induced in ducks at distinct age groups (1, 7, 14, 21, and 28 d) utilizing the DAstv-1-GDB-2022 strain. The results indicate increased pathogenicity of the DAstv-1-GDB-2022 strain in ducklings aged 21 to 28 d, manifesting as liver and kidney enlargement, severe bleeding, and potential fatalities. Conversely, ducklings aged 1 and 14 d displayed milder symptoms postinfection. Notably, viral shedding continued in ducks of diverse age groups even 21 d postinfection (Dpi). Moreover, DAstV replicates in various tissues, predominantly affecting the liver. Immunohistochemical tests using rabbit anti-DAstV antibodies revealed robust positive signals in both the liver and kidneys, which correlated with the clinical symptom severity observed through macroscopic and microscopic examinations. Serum biochemical assays and indirect ELISA demonstrated a consistent response to DAstV infection across different age groups, with older ducklings exhibiting increased sensitivity. In conclusion, this study successfully replicated clinical symptoms similar to those of natural DAstV infection using the DAstv-1-GDB-2022 strain. Importantly, we systematically delineated the differences in susceptibility to DAstV among ducks at various ages, laying the foundation for further research into the pathogenic mechanisms of DAstV and potential vaccine development.
Lung cancer is one of the most server mortality in the world and remains a huge threat to human health. Recently, cisplatin-based chemotherapy represented a common therapeutic strategy, however, ...cisplatin resistance greatly limits the therapy efficacy. We investigated whether KIAA0101 plays a role in cisplatin resistance of lung cancer cells and its mechanisms of action. The expression of KIAA0101 was evaluated based on comprehensive bioinformatic analysis. KIAA0101 knockdown and overexpression A549 cells were constructed to investigate its effects on cell proliferation and apoptosis induced by cisplatin treatment. Western blot analysis was performed to measure the levels of p53-related apoptosis proteins. We found that KIAA0101 was greatly increased in lung cancer tissues and cells. Knockdown of KIAA0101 suppressed cell proliferation and increased cisplatin-induced apoptosis. Knockdown of KIAA0101 also augmented the cisplatin-induced cell apoptosis signaling pathway. Then p53 was found to account for the role of KIAA0101 in cisplatin resistance. In conclusion, our findings provide a novel factor of KIAA0101 in lung cancer resistance, which suggests as a novel target for lung cancer therapy.
