An artificial light‐harvesting system with sequential energy‐transfer process was fabricated based on a supramolecular strategy. Self‐assembled from the host–guest complex formed by water‐soluble ...pillar5arene (WP5), a bola‐type tetraphenylethylene‐functionalized dialkyl ammonium derivative (TPEDA), and two fluorescent dyes, Eosin Y (ESY) and Nile Red (NiR), the supramolecular vesicles achieve efficient energy transfer from the AIE guest TPEDA to ESY. ESY can function as a relay to further transfer the energy to the second acceptor NiR and realize a two‐step sequential energy‐transfer process with good efficiency. By tuning the donor/acceptor ratio, bright white light emission can be successfully achieved with a CIE coordinate of (0.33, 0.33). To better mimic natural photosynthesis and make full use of the harvested energy, the WP5⊃TPEDA‐ESY‐NiR system can be utilized as a nanoreactor: photocatalyzed dehalogenation of α‐bromoacetophenone was realized with 96 % yield in aqueous medium.

A layerlike MOF (MIL-124, orGa2(OH)4(C9O6H4)) has been prepared and chosen as a parent compound to encapsulate Eu3+ cations by one uncoordinated carbonyl group in its pores. The Eu3+-incorporated ...sample (Eu3+@MIL-124) is fully characterized, which shows excellent luminescence and good fluorescence stability in water or other organic solvents. Subsequently, we choose Eu3+@MIL-124 as sensitive probe for sensing metal ions, anions, and organic small molecules because of its robust framework. Studying of the luminescence properties reveals that the complex Eu3+@MIL-124 was developed as a highly selective and sensitive probe for detection of Fe3+ (detection limit, 0.28 μM) and Fe2+ ions through fluorescence quenching of Eu3+ and MOF over other metal ions. In connection to this, a probable sensing mechanism was also discussed in this paper. In addition, when Eu3+@MIL-124 was immersed in the different anions solutions and organic solvents, it also shows highly selective for Cr2O7 2–(detection limit, 0.15 μM)and acetone. Remarkably, it is the first Eu-doped MOF to exhibit an excellent ability for the detection of Fe3+ and Fe2+ in an aqueous environment without any structural disintegration of the framework.
One important goal of the current electrocatalysis is to develop integrated electrodes from the atomic level design to multilevel structural engineering in simple ways and low prices. Here, a series ...of oxygen micro‐alloyed high‐entropy alloys (O‐HEAs) is developed via a metallurgy approach. A (CrFeCoNi)97O3 bulk O‐HEA shows exceptional electrocatalytic performance for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), reaching an overpotential as low as 196 mV and a Tafel slope of 29 mV dec−1, and with stability longer than 120 h in 1 m KOH solution at a current density of 10 mA cm−2. It is shown that the enhanced OER performance can be attributed to the formation of island‐like Cr2O3 microdomains, the leaching of Cr3+ ions, and structural amorphization at the interfaces of the domains. These findings offer a technological‐orientated strategy to integrated electrodes.

By taking advantage of facile preparation and sensitive recognition capacity, the first example of a fluorescence system based on Eu(III) functionalized UiO(bpdc) (UMOFs) has been constructed for ...effective combination of ions recognition and logic computing. All the ions, including Hg2+, Ag+, and S2− in the system are water harmful, which can be recognized through affecting energy transfer or framework structure. By the self‐assembling, competing and connecting with each other, Eu(III)@UMOFs and the ions have achieved the implementation of Boolean logic network system connecting the elementary logic operations (NOR, INH, and IMP) and integrative logic operation (OR + INH), also obtaining computing keypad‐lock security system by sequential logic operation. To deal with uncertain information in the analog region of nonlinear response (fluorescence and concentration), soft computation through the formulation of fuzzy logic operation has been constructed. On the basis of Boolean logic and fuzzy logic, one intelligent molecular searcher can be realized by taking chemical events (Hg2+, Ag+, and S2−) as programmable words and chemical interactions as syntax. Considering the particularity of all the input ions, the approach is helpful in developing the advanced logic program based on Eu(III)@UMOFs for application in environmental monitoring.

Unsafe food is a huge threat to human health and the economy, and detecting food spoilage early is an ongoing and imperative need. Herein, a simple and effective strategy combining a fluorescence ...sensor and one‐to‐two logic operation is designed for monitoring biogenic amines, indicators of food spoilage. Sensors (methyl red@lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (MR@EuMOFs)) are created by covalently modifying MR into NH2‐rich EuMOFs, which have a high quantum yield (48%). A double‐stimuli‐responsive fluorescence center is produced via energy transfer from the ligands to Eu3+ and MR. Portable sensory hydrogels are obtained by dispersing and solidifying MR@EuMOFs in water‐phase sodium salt of carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC‐Na). The hydrogels exhibit a color transition upon “smelling” histamine (HI) vapor. This transition and shift in the MR‐based emission peak are closely related to the HI concentration. Using the HI concentration as the input signal and the two fluorescence emissions as output signals, an advanced analytical device based on a one‐to‐two logic gate is constructed. The four output combinations, NOT (0, 1), YES (1, 0), PASS 1 (1, 1), and PASS 0 (0, 0), allow the direct analysis of HI levels, which can be used for real‐time food‐freshness evaluation. The novel strategy suggested here may be a new application for a molecular logic system in the sensing field.

Metabolic diseases are serious threats to public health and related to gut microbiota. Probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics (PPSP) are powerful regulators of gut microbiota, thus ...possessing prospects for preventing metabolic diseases. Therefore, the effects and mechanisms of PPSP on metabolic diseases targeting gut microbiota are worth discussing and clarifying. Generally, PPSP benefit metabolic diseases management, especially obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The underlying gut microbial-related mechanisms are mainly the modulation of gut microbiota composition, regulation of gut microbial metabolites, and improvement of intestinal barrier function. Moreover, clinical trials showed the benefits of PPSP on patients with metabolic diseases, while the clinical strategies for gestational diabetes mellitus, optimal formula of synbiotics and health benefits of postbiotics need further study. This review fully summarizes the relationship between probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, and metabolic diseases, presents promising results and the one in dispute, and especially attention is paid to illustrates potential mechanisms and clinical effects, which could contribute to the next research and development of PPSP.
Curcumin is a principal curcuminoid of turmeric (
), which is commonly used as a spice in cooking and a yellow pigment in the food processing industry. Recent studies have demonstrated that curcumin ...has a variety of biological activities and pharmacological performances, providing protection and promotion of human health. In addition to presenting an overview of the gut metabolism of curcumin, this paper reviews the current research progress on its versatile bioactivity, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immune-regulatory activities, and also intensively discusses its health benefits, including the protective or preventive effects on cancers and diabetes, as well as the liver, nervous system, and cardiovascular systems, highlighting the potential molecular mechanisms. Besides, the beneficial effects of curcumin on human are further stated based on clinical trials. Considering that there is still a debate on the beneficial effects of curcumin, we also discuss related challenges and prospects. Overall, curcumin is a promising ingredient of novel functional foods, with protective efficacy in preventing certain diseases. We hope this comprehensive and updated review will be helpful for promoting human-based studies to facilitate its use in human health and diseases in the future.
Immune checkpoint inhibitors had a great effect in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC); however, they benefited only a subset of patients, underscoring the need to co-target alternative pathways and ...select optimal patients. Herein, we investigated patient subpopulations more likely to benefit from immunotherapy and inform more effective combination regimens for TNBC patients.
We conducted exploratory analyses in the FUSCC cohort to characterize a novel patient selection method and actionable targets for TNBC immunotherapy. We investigated this in vivo and launched a phase 2 trial to assess the clinical value of such criteria and combination regimen. Furthermore, we collected clinicopathological and next-generation sequencing data to illustrate biomarkers for patient outcomes.
CD8-positivity could identify an immunomodulatory subpopulation of TNBCs with higher possibilities to benefit from immunotherapy, and angiogenesis was an actionable target to facilitate checkpoint blockade. We conducted the phase II FUTURE-C-Plus trial to assess the feasibility of combining famitinib (an angiogenesis inhibitor), camrelizumab (a PD-1 monoclonal antibody) and chemotherapy in advanced immunomodulatory TNBC patients. Within 48 enrolled patients, the objective response rate was 81.3% (95% CI, 70.2-92.3), and the median progression-free survival was 13.6 months (95% CI, 8.4-18.8). No treatment-related deaths were reported. Patients with CD8- and/or PD-L1- positive tumors benefit more from this regimen. PKD1 somatic mutation indicates worse progression-free and overall survival.
This study confirms the efficacy and safety of the triplet regimen in immunomodulatory TNBC and reveals the potential of combining CD8, PD-L1 and somatic mutations to guide clinical decision-making and treatments.

A wearable glove-based sensor has been developed for non-invasive organophosphorus pesticide (OP) monitoring via the fluorescent detection technology. The new "lab-on-a-glove" device integrates a ...flexible host material (CMC aerogel) and two fluorescent centers (EuMOFs for red and nanosized CDs for blue emissons). After characterizing the performance and stability of the sensor, qualitative and quantitative OP detections are successfully conducted on the surfaces of different agricultural products using swipe collection. The real-time detection system offers considerable advantages such as rapid response (30 s) due to the porous structures of CMC aerogel and MOFs, detection with the naked eye (the red to blue emission transition corresponds to an increase in the OP concentration) and high sensitivity (R2 = 0.99529, LOD = 89 nM) owing to the double-signal sensing strategy in which EuMOFs are the working fluorescence center and CDs are the reference fluorescence center. Compared with other OP detection methods, our strategy of using wearable device with the ratiometric fluorescence method leads to a convenient and reliable detection process for OP analysis. Also, considering its cost advantage, the glove-based sensor holds promise for practical applications in food safety and security.
Functional materials play a vital role in the fabrication of smart windows, which can provide a more comfortable indoor environment for humans to enjoy a better lifestyle. Traditional materials for ...smart windows tend to possess only a single functionality with the purpose of regulating the input of solar energy. However, different color tones also have great influences on human emotions. Herein, a strategy for orthogonal integration of different properties is proposed, namely the thermo-responsiveness of ethylene glycol-modified pillar6arene (EGP6) and the redox-induced reversible color switching of ferrocene/ferrocenium groups are orthogonally integrated into one system. This gives rise to a material with cooperative and non-interfering dual functions, featuring both thermochromism and warm/cool tone-switchability. Consequently, the obtained bifunctional material for fabricating smart windows can not only regulate the input of solar energy but also can provide a more comfortable color tone to improve the feelings and emotions of people in indoor environments.
