Despite frequent discussions on the link between physical and mental health, the specific impact of physical fitness on mental well-being is yet to be fully established.
This study, carried out ...between January 2022 and August 2023, involved 4,484 Chinese University students from eight universities located in various regions of China. It aimed to examine the association between physical fitness on psychological well-being. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and logistic regression were used to analyze the association between physical fitness indicators (e.g., Body Mass Index (BMI), vital capacity, and endurance running) and mental health, assessed using Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90). All procedures were ethically approved, and participants consented to take part in.
Our analysis revealed that BMI, vital capacity, and endurance running scores significantly influence mental health indicators. Specifically, a 1-point increase in BMI increases the likelihood of an abnormal psychological state by 10.9%, while a similar increase in vital capacity and endurance running decreases the risk by 2.1% and 4.1%, respectively. In contrast, reaction time, lower limb explosiveness, flexibility, and muscle strength showed no significant effects on psychological states (p > 0.05).
Improvements in BMI, vital capacity, and endurance running capabilities are associated with better mental health outcomes, highlighting their potential importance in enhancing overall well-being.

Catalytic oxidation is one of the most important methods to generate high value-added fine chemicals in industry. However, efficient controlling the selectivity of products and avoiding over-oxidation under mild conditions remain to be challenging. Herein, the selective photocatalytic oxidation of benzene to phenol was used as the model reaction, and through tailoring the band structure for an appropriate thermodynamic driving force, Zn2Ti-layered double hydroxide (Zn2Ti-LDH) photocatalyst showed one-step oxidation of benzene to phenol in water with a high phenol selectivity of 87.18%. Detailed characterization revealed that the formed oxygen vacancies onto the surface of the LDH photocatalyst enhanced the photoinduced charge-carrier separation/transformation efficiency, increased the content of superoxide radicals, thus promoted the photocatalytic oxidation reaction. This work may serve as a guide in designing efficient photocatalysts for selective catalytic oxidation.
18β-Glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-GA), the main bioactive component of Glycyrrhizae Radix, is considered a promising anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. Here, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory and ...antioxidant effects of 18β-GA in an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma mouse model, and examined the role of NF-κB and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways. The histopathological changes of lung tissue in mouse were assessed by histochemical staining and counting of inflammatory cells. The levels of IgE and inflammatory cytokines in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of mice were detected by ELISA. In OVA-induced asthmatic mice, 18β-GA treatment can significantly improve lung function and reduce lung inflammation including infiltration of inflammatory cells. In addition, 18β-GA reduced the OVA-induced NF-κB phosphorylation in lungs of mice while increasing the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1. These results indicate that 18β-GA protects OVA-induced allergic inflammation of airway by inhibiting phosphorylation of NF-κB and enhancing the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway, and serves as a potential treatment option for allergic inflammation of airway.
Microcapsules are successfully used in various applications such as self-healing, drug delivery and military camouflage. The shells of the microcapsules based on the traditional surfactant-stabilized ...emulsion template method are often single organic materials. The surfactants generally have insufficient stability against demulsification during preparation of the microcapsules. In the present study, kaolinite was used as an emulsifier for stabilizing Pickering emulsions and subsequently as an enhancer for forming microcapsules. Kaolinite-armoured polyurea microcapsules were fabricated based on the interfacial polymerization of isophorone diisocyanate at the oil-water interfaces of kaolinite-stabilized Pickering emulsions. The prepared microcapsules with core-shell structure were spherical and exhibited good dispersibility in anhydrous ethanol. The shell thickness (∼0.5-1.0 µm) and diameter (∼20.0-160.0 µm) of kaolinite-armoured polyurea microcapsules may be tailored by varying the dosages of isophorone diisocyanate and kaolinite and the emulsifying speed of the high-shear homogenizer. Hence, the encapsulation and release performance of microcapsules may be controlled. The kaolinite particles were embedded and armoured in a polyurea matrix. The formed kaolinite-embedded and -armoured polyurea structures might prolong the release of the encapsulated lipophilic Sudan Red (III) from 20 to 45 h. The microcapsules have controllable encapsulation and release characteristics for lipophilic compounds and are cost effective, making them suitable pesticides.
The rational design of efficient Earth-abundant electrocatalysts for the ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) is the key to developing direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs). Among these, the smart structure ...is highly demanded for highly efficient and stable non-precious electrocatalysts based on transition metals (such as Ni, Co, and Fe). In this work, high-performance NiCo-layered double hydroxide@carbon nanotube (NiCo-LDH@CNT) architectures with hollow nanocage structures as electrocatalysts for EOR were prepared via sacrificial ZIF-67 templates on CNTs. Comprehensive structural characterizations revealed that the as-synthesized NiCo-LDH@CNTs architecture displayed 3D hollow nanocages of NiCo-LDH and abundant interfacial structure between NiCo-LDH and CNTs, which could not only completely expose active sites by increasing the surface area but also facilitate the electron transfer during the electrocatalytic process, thus, improving EOR activity. Benefiting from the 3D hollow nanocages and interfacial structure fabricated by the sacrificial ZIF-67-templated method, the NiCo-LDH@CNTs-2.5% architecture exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic activity for ethanol oxidation compared to single-component NiCo-LDH, where the peak current density was 11.5 mA·cm

As anion-exchange materials, layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have attracted increasing attention in the fields of selective adsorption and separation, controlled drug release, and environmental ...remediation. The metal cation composition of the laminate is the essential factor that determines the anion-exchange performance of LDHs. Herein, we review the regulating effects of the metal cation composition on the anion-exchange properties and LDH structure. Specifically, the internal factors affecting the anion-exchange performance of LDHs were analyzed and summarized. These include the intercalation driving force, interlayer domain environment, and LDH morphology, which significantly affect the anion selectivity, anion-exchange capacity, and anion arrangement. By changing the species, valence state, size, and mole ratio of the metal cations, the structural characteristics, charge density, and interlayer spacing of LDHs can be adjusted, which affect the anion-exchange performance of LDHs. The present challenges and future prospects of LDHs are also discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review to summarize the essential relationship between the metal ion composition and anion-exchange performance of laminates, providing important insights for regulating the anion-exchange performance of LDHs.
Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 with H2O to syngas is an effective way for producing high value-added chemical feedstocks such as methanol and light olefins in industry. Nevertheless, the precise ...control of CO/H2 ratio from photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction still poses a great challenge for the further application. Herein, we prepared a series of highly efficient heterostructure based on highly dispersed palladium supported on ultrathin CoAl-layered double hydroxide (LDH). In conjunction with a Ru-complex sensitizer, the molar ratios of CO/H2 can be tuned from 1:0.74 to 1:3 under visible-light irradiation (λ > 400 nm). More interestingly, the syngas can be obtained under light irradiation at λ > 600 nm. Structure characterization and density functional theory calculations revealed that the remarkable catalytic activity can be due to the supported palladium, which improved the charge transfer efficiency. Meanwhile, more H atoms were used to generate H2 on the supported palladium for further tunable CO/H2 ratio. This work demonstrates a new strategy for harnessing abundant solar-energy to produce syngas from a CO2 feedstock.

Many functions have been proposed to describe the response of root water uptake to water and/or salinity stresses. In practice, choosing a reliable stress response function is challenging, ...particularly when water and salinity stresses occur simultaneously. To explore and quantify the effects of soil water and salinity conditions, separately and combined, on root water uptake, two experiments culturing winter wheat in artificial climate chambers were conducted with various water and salinity levels. As the key index, plant water status was evaluated by: a) considering the relative position of water and salinity to roots; b) rectifying estimation of potential transpiration for stressed plants; c) excluding data during recovery periods dominated by the hysteresis process of historical stress; and d) quantifying the interaction between water and salinity stresses. Including only one fitting parameter and two water or salinity thresholds with clear physical meaning and available recommendations, concave-convex function could quantify the effects of water or salinity stress more accurately than the others, leading to more reliable estimation of relative transpiration rate (RMSE < 0.07, R2 > 0.91, MAE < 0.24). Under combined water-salinity stress conditions, neither an additive nor multiplicative approach was able to describe the interaction accurately. In addition to cumulative effect, by quantifying cross-adaptation effect with an exponential function, the multiplicative concave-convex functions significantly improved the estimation of relative transpiration rate for water- and salinity-stressed plants (RMSE < 0.08, R2 > 0.72, MAE < 0.28). Nevertheless, mechanisms underlying the interaction between water and salinity stresses are still unclear and should be further investigated. To avoid the hysteresis effect of historical stress, excluding data during recovery periods was helpful, but its quantitative characterization is also necessary for accurate simulation of root water uptake and should be further studied.

The polyoxometalate (POM) intercalated layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been widely used as heterogeneous catalysts. However, the application of POM–LDHs as bifunctional catalysts for cascade ...reaction has seldom been studied compared to the noble‐metal‐based catalysts. Herein, a series of POM–LDHs catalysts of Tris–LDH–X4(PW9)2 (X=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn; Tris=Tris(hydroxymethtyl)aminomethane) have been prepared. The efficacy of Tris–LDH–Zn4(PW9)2 as efficient bifunctional catalyst has been demonstrated for cascade reactions involving oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde followed by Knoevenagel condensation with ethyl cyanoacetate to produce benzylidene ethyl cyanoacetate. The combination of POM's redox/acidic sites and LDHs's basic sites led to a composite catalyst with excellent activity (99 %) and selectivity (≥99 %) under mild and soluble‐base‐free conditions. This work offers a new design strategy for the fabrication of efficient bifunctional catalysts for the promotion of one‐pot cascade reactions.

In this research, the skill and tactical performances of Lee Chong Wei ...in 10 representative matches of the Olympic Games, World Championships and Open in the Quarter, Quarter and Final, respectively, were selected for study. A one-way ANOVA with paired samples t-test was used to analyze the differences of their relevant skill parameters between the ace-shot and misses. Lee Chong Wei is accustomed to serving backhand nets and uses lift shot skills when receiving serves for the first shot on key points, while the mainstream skill of the second shot is drop shot, resulting poor lift shot effect. Furthermore, the multi-shot skill is mainly used to hit the opponent’s forecourt backhand area, and the lift shot skill is conducive to scoring, while the picking skill is ineffective.
