Virtual community of practice (VCoP) is an important form of knowledge management systems. Would the integration of social networking support into traditional forum-based VCoP benefit knowledge exchange in the community? If so, why? Based on social capital theory and transactive memory system research, this study suggests that social networking support will enhance knowledge exchange in VCoP. In a field study, this study found that social networking support intensifies dyadic knowledge exchange among friends and reduces the probability that dyads stop knowledge exchange. These findings empirically confirm the effect of social networking support integration in VCoP, offering an investment justification for practitioners.
As a crucial method in organizational and social behavior research, self-report surveys must manage method bias. Method biases are distorted scores in survey response, distorted variance in ...variables, and distorted relational estimates between variables caused by method designs. Studies on method bias have focused on post hoc statistical control, but integrated analyses of the sociopsychological mechanism of method bias are lacking. This review proposes a framework for method bias and offers a relatively complete and detailed review of the sociopsychological and statistical mechanisms of four main types of method bias and their procedural remedies. This review proposes “reduce, remove, and rectify” as a guideline for researchers in survey design to address method bias. Finally, this review presents two directions for future methodology research.
Despite its centrality to human thoughts and practices, aesthetics has largely been ignored in research on Web site design. Recently, studies have begun to show that aesthetic qualities such as ...color, graphics, and the layout of a Web site can play an important role in improving consumer shopping experiences. By integrating theories and research findings from diverse fields, we investigate the impacts of two dimensions of aesthetics, namely, classical aesthetics and expressive aesthetics, on online consumers' shopping value. More important, we propose that the effect of these two dimensions of aesthetics on consumer shopping value is contingent on the hedonic and utilitarian nature of products that consumers purchase online. A laboratory experiment was conducted to test the research model, and the results generally support our hypotheses. From a theoretical perspective, our findings not only establish consumer shopping value as a key business value of Web site aesthetics but also enrich the current knowledge on the contingent effect of Web site aesthetics for utilitarian and hedonic products. From a practical perspective, the findings provide guidance for online vendors to provide their customers with better service in the form of properly designed aesthetic Web sites.
Despite significant advances, the therapeutic impact of photodynamic therapy is still substantially hampered by the restricted penetration depth of light and the reactive oxygen species ...(ROS)-mediated toxicity, which is impeded by the shorter effective half-life and radius of ROS produced during treatment. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), on the other hand, provides unrivalled benefits in deep-seated tumour ablation due to its deep penetration depth and not totally ROS-dependent toxicity, exhibiting enormous preclinical and clinical potential. In this tutorial review, we highlight imaging-guided precise SDT, which allows choosing the best treatment option and monitoring the therapy response in real-time, as well as recent clinical trials based on SDT. Aside from that, the subtle design strategies of sonosensitizers based on tumour environment shaping and rational structure modification, as well as SDT combination treatment (chemotherapy, chemodynamic therapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, gas therapy and immunotherapy), aimed at a more effective treatment outcome, are summarized. Finally, we discussed the future of SDT for personalized cancer and other disease treatments.
Herein, we provide the enhancement of SDT effect through elaborate strategies including the design and modification of sonosensitizers, the combination other therapy modalities, and molecular imaging-guided SDT for precise treatment.
Does patients’ Internet search of disease information affect their trust in physicians during diagnosis? This study proposes a research model from a knowledge power perspective, that is, Internet ...search affects patients’ perception of their knowledge level. Our empirical study of more than 400 subjects suggests that for patients who searched online for disease information, the inconsistency between their self‐diagnosis expectations and their physician's diagnosis reduces their trust in their physician. The effect is stronger for those who spent more time on Internet search. Patients with chronic conditions are less affected by the inconsistency, as are patients of physicians with a higher professional status. This study also found that physicians’ interaction quality in the diagnosis process—how well they communicate with their patient—still plays a dominant role in gaining patient's trust. This finding suggests that even in the high‐tech age, high‐touch remains an important factor to physician‐patient trust.

Users are the most critical strategic resource of any online social networking service (SNS). This paper offers strategic recommendations for SNS providers based on an empirical study exploring why users switch from a primary SNS to others. We first identify important characteristics that combine to distinguish SNSs from conventional information systems, then develop a “cyber migration” research model that includes push, pull and mooring factors which influence user intention to switch from one SNS to another. Findings from a field survey of 180 users reveal four significant factors that promote switching: dissatisfaction with socialization support, dissatisfaction with entertainment value, continuity cost, and peer influence. Strategies grounded in these factors are suggested for SNS providers to better attract and retain users.
In the current ecological measurement of commonweal forest, there are many problems such as high intensity of operation and continuous measurement of environmental factors. In this paper, the ...technology of Internet of Things is applied to the automatic measurement of ecological cultivation of public-welfare forest, and the structure of automatic monitoring system of ecological cultivation based on Internet of Things is put forward. Implementation in production practice: according to the basic flow of the ecological cultivation of commonweal forest, the cultivation environment of the ecological cultivation link of the Canadian Poplar Forests was analyzed. The environmental factors influencing the growth of trees in the Canadian Poplar Forests were summarized and the best environment for the ecological cultivation was established. The preliminary experiments show that the system has the advantages of low power consumption, flexible networking, scalable and friendly human–machine interface, and can meet the application requirements of ecological cultivation information monitoring of Canadian Poplar Forests.
The damage due to computer security incidents is motivating organizations to adopt protective mechanisms. While technological controls are necessary, computer security also depends on individual's ...security behavior. It is thus important to investigate what influences a user to practice computer security. This study uses the Health Belief Model, adapted from the healthcare literature, to study users' computer security behavior. The model was validated using survey data from 134 employees. Results show that perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy are determinants of email related security behavior. Perceived severity moderates the effects of perceived benefits, general security orientation, cues to action, and self-efficacy on security behavior.

Price and trust are considered to be two important factors that influence customer purchasing decisions in Internet shopping. This paper examines the relative influence they have on online purchasing decisions for both potential and repeat customers. The knowledge of their relative impacts and changes in their relative roles over customer transaction experience is useful in developing customized sales strategies to target different groups of customers. The results of this study revealed that perceived trust exerted a stronger effect than perceived price on purchase intentions for both potential and repeat customers of an online store. The results also revealed that perceived price exerted a stronger influence on purchase decisions of repeat customers as compared to that of potential customers. Perceived trust exerted a stronger influence on purchase decisions of potential customers as compared to that of repeat customers.
Although previous studies have suggested that albumin-corrected anion gap (ACAG) may be a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients in intensive care unit (ICU), its utility in the context of ...asthma has not been definitively established. In this study, baseline data, albumin concentration, anion gap (AG) and 30-d mortality data were retrieved from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database (MIMIC-IV) for patients with asthma in the intensive care unit. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to analyze the predictive ability of ACAG and AG. The risk of 30-day mortality among patients with ACAG and asthma was analyzed using a restricted cubic spline (RCS) plot. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the clinical usefulness of ACAG as a prognostic factor for 30-day mortality. Subsequently, subgroup analysis was conducted to explore potential variations in the relationship between ACAG and 30-day mortality based on factors such as sex, age, whether the asthma was acute, and other co-morbidities. Our study reveals that ACAG is a significant independent predictor of 30-day mortality in asthmatic patients receiving intensive care. The area under the AUC curve for ACAG was found to be 0.703, which is higher than that of AG, indicating that ACAG has a better predictive ability for 30-day mortality in this population. Furthermore, higher levels of ACAG were found to be associated with increased risk of 30-day mortality in asthmatic patients. In addition, decision curve analysis (DCA) demonstrated that the net benefit of ACAG was greater than that of AG. These findings suggest that ACAG may be a valuable prognostic factor for predicting 30-day mortality in asthmatic patients in the ICU. Our study provides evidence that ACAG is associated with an increased risk of 30-d mortality and has better predictive value in patients with combined asthma who are admitted to the ICU than AG.
