Adolescence represents a crucial phase, characterized by rapid physical and mental development and numerous challenges. Physical activity plays a vital role in the mental well-being of adolescents; ...however, due to the prevailing educational philosophy prioritizing academic performance, adolescent participation in physical activities has yet to reach its full potential. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effects of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity on adolescents' emotional intelligence, psychosocial stress, and self-rated health status. To achieve this objective, a cluster sampling method was employed to collect data from 600 adolescents in 10 schools across five municipal districts of Changsha, China. A total of 426 valid questionnaires were returned and analyzed. Utilizing AMOS v.23, a structural equation model was constructed to validate the hypotheses. The findings reveal that moderate-to-vigorous physical activity significantly impacts adolescents' emotional intelligence and self-rated health status. Conversely, it exerts a significant negative influence on their psychosocial stress. Moreover, emotional intelligence and psychosocial stress mediate the relationship between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and self-rated health status. In light of these results, education departments, schools, and families must embrace a paradigm shift in educational philosophies and provide robust support for adolescents to engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activities.
As a common neurological disease, cognitive impairment is characterized by cognitive decline, memory and attention impairment, which seriously affects the patients' quality of life. The etiology and ...pathogenesis of cognitive impairment are complex and diverse. Studies have shown that chronic persistent neuroinflammation plays a key role in its development. Microglia and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome are closely related to neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment. Regulation of microglia and NLRP3 inflammasome can reduce inflammatory factors, reduce amyloid β-protein(Aβ) deposition, regulate autophagy, maintain synaptic homeostasis, thus reducing neuroinflammation and further preventing and treating cognitive impairment. Therefore, exploring the mechanism of microglia and NLRP3 inflammasome as well as their interaction in cognitive impairment can provide some reference and basis for the in-depth study of the mechanism and clinical prevention and treatm
Menopause is a period of high incidence of chronic diseases. Women experience various physical and psychological discomforts during menopause, and hormonal changes exacerbate mood swings in ...menopausal women and also cause them to begin to experience excessive worry and anxiety about their health problems. This study was a cross-sectional survey investigating the relationship between physical activity and women's health anxiety. Using cluster sampling, a valid sample of 455 females aged 45-50 was collected from 78 communities in five municipal districts in Changsha, China, and AMOS v.23 was adopted to construct a structural equation model to verify the hypotheses. The results indicate that interpersonal competence and emotional intelligence are negatively associated with health anxiety. Furthermore, interpersonal competence and emotional intelligence mediate the relationship between physical exercise and health anxiety, which means that menopausal women with more physical exercise, higher interpersonal competence, and higher emotional intelligence reported lower health anxiety. Finally, to alleviate menopausal women's health anxiety and reduce their risk of chronic diseases, the government, community, and family should create conditions and opportunities for women to participate in group physical activities.

Reef-building coral species of the order Scleractinia play an important role in shallow tropical seas by providing an environmental base for the ecosystem. The molecular data of complete ...mitochondrial genome have become an important source for evaluating phylogenetic and evolutionary studies of Scleractinia. Here, the complete mitogenome of
(Milne Edwards and Haime, 1857), collected from Nansha Islands of the South China Sea, was sequenced for the first time through a next-generation sequencing method.
is the first species of its genus for which the mitogenome was sequenced. This mitogenome was 18,154 bp in size and included two transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). It showed a similar gene structure and gene order to the other typical scleractinians. All 17 genes were encoded on the H strand and the total GC content was 33.86% in mitogenome. Phylogenetic analysis (maximum likelihood tree method) showed that
belonged to the "Robust" clade and clustered together with other two species in the family Lobophylliidae based on 13 PCGs. The mitogenome can provide significant molecular information to clarify the evolutionary and phylogenetic relationships between stony corals and to facilitate their taxonomic classification; it can also support coral species monitoring and conservation efforts.
This study aims to explore how social commerce platforms retain specific user groups in the context of emerging economies post-COVID-19. Drawing on the stimulus-organism-response model, this study ...investigates how technological environments impact consumers' intrinsic and extrinsic values, and visualize how these technological characteristics contribute to the continuance intentions. The survey targets Generation Z in China and gathers 366 valid questionnaires. Data analysis is conducted using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0, employing Confirmatory Factor Analysis to assess the research model's reliability and validity. Subsequently, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Mediation Analysis test the proposed hypotheses. The findings suggest that for the major consumer group, the pursuit of social, informational, and emotional values is the primary motivation rather than hedonic value. Also, social commerce platforms should not be considered simply as a communication tool or a social network service, but as the artificial structural equivalence of social connections that carries users' social capital. This paper offers new insights into why young consumers join social network platforms in emerging economies and repeatedly use them during the post-pandemic period. The research findings may apply to other social media platforms of developing and developed countries with similar socioeconomic and cultural contexts.
Abstract
Background
Syndromic congenital heart disease (CHD) is among the most severe conditions in the pediatric population. Copy number variant (CNV) is an important cause of syndromic CHD, but few ...studies focused on CNVs related to these patients in China. The present study aimed to identify pathogenic CNVs associated with syndromic CHD in the Chinese population.
Methods
A total of 109 sporadic patients with syndromic CHD were applied chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA). Phenotype spectrum of pathogenic or likely pathogenic CNVs was analyzed. CHD-related genes were prioritized from genes within pathogenic or likely pathogenic CNVs by VarElect, OVA, AMELIE, and ToppGene.
Results
Using CMA, we identified 43 candidate CNVs in 37/109 patients. After filtering CNVs present in the general population, 29 pathogenic/likely pathogenic CNVs in 24 patients were identified. The diagnostic yield of CMA for pathogenic/likely pathogenic CNVs was 23.1% (24/104), excluding 5 cases with aneuploidies or gross chromosomal aberrations. The overlapping analysis of CHD-related gene lists from different prioritization tools highlighted 16 CHD candidate genes.
Conclusion
As the first study focused on CNVs in syndromic CHD from the Chinese population, this study reveals the importance of CMA in exploring the genetic etiology of syndromic CHD and expands our understanding of these complex diseases. The bioinformatic analysis of candidate genes suggests several CHD-related genes for further functional research.
To assess the predictive value of tenascin-C (TN-C) for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) non-responsiveness and coronary artery lesions (CALs) development at the acute stage of Kawasaki disease, and ...to build novel scoring systems for identifying IVIG non-responsiveness and CALs.
A total of 261 patients in acute-stage Kawasaki disease were included. Serum samples before IVIG initiation were collected and TN-C expression levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. In addition to TN-C, another fifteen clinical and laboratory parameters collected before treatment were compared between IVIG responsive and non-responsive groups, and between groups with and without CALs. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to construct new scoring systems for the prediction of IVIG non-responsiveness and CALs development.
IVIG non-responsive group (
= 51) had significantly higher TN-C level compared to IVIG responsive group (
= 210) (15.44 vs. 12.38 IU/L,
< 0.001). A novel scoring system composed of TN-C, total bilirubin, serum sodium and albumin was established to predict IVIG non-responsiveness. Patients with a total score ≥ 2 points were classified as high-risk cases. With the sensitivity of 78.4% and specificity of 73.8%, the efficiency of our scoring system for predicting IVIG non-responsiveness was comparable to the Kobayashi system. Consistently, the group developing CALs at the acute stage (
= 42) had significantly higher TN-C level compared to the group without CALs (
= 219) (19.76 vs. 12.10 IU/L,
< 0.001). A new scoring system showed that patients with elevated TN-C, platelet count ≥ 450 × 10
/L, and delayed initial infusion of IVIG had a higher risk of developing CALs. Individuals with a total score ≥ 3 points were classified as high-risk cases. The sensitivity and specificity of the novel simple system for predicting CALs development were 83.3% and 74.0%, respectively, yielding a better efficiency than the Harada score.
Elevated TN-C appeared to be an independent risk factor for both IVIG non-responsiveness and CALs in Chinese children with KD. Our scoring systems containing TN-C is simple and efficient in the early identification of high-risk KD cases that could benefit from more individualized medications.
In this study, the critical need for precise and accurate prediction of intra‐tumor heterogeneity related to the enhanced permeability and retention effect and spatial distribution of nanoprobes is ...addressed for the development of effective nanodrug delivery strategies. Current predictive models are limited in terms of resolution and accuracy, prompting the construction of a high‐resolution prediction network (HRPN) that estimates the microdistribution of quantum dots, factoring in tumor vascular and nuclear features. The HRPN algorithm is trained using 27 780 patches and validated on 4920 patches derived from 4T1 breast cancer whole‐slide images, demonstrating its reliability. The HRPN model exhibits minimal error (mean square error = 1.434, root mean square error = 1.198), satisfactory goodness of fit (R2 = 0.891), and superior image quality (peak signal‐to‐noise ratio = 44.548) when compared to a generative‐adversarial‐network‐structured model. Furthermore, the HRPN model offers improved prediction accuracy, broader prediction intervals, and reduced computational resource requirements. Consequently, the proposed model yields high‐resolution predictions that more closely resemble actual tumor microdistributions, potentially serving as a powerful analytical tool for investigating the spatial relationship between the tumor microenvironment and nanoprobes.
Herein, a high‐resolution prediction network (HRPN), which predicts the microdistribution of quantum dots, is built utilizing tumor vascular and nuclear features. HRPN automatically learns 27 780 patches and is tested in 4920 patches, decomposed from 4T1 breast cancer whole‐slide images, proving the reliability.
Aims. We aimed to explore whether visceral adiposity indices were significantly associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients. Methods. 100 patients with T2DM who ...underwent overnight polysomnography were analyzed in this study. Anthropometric data, lipid profiles, and glycemic parameters were recorded. Body fat percentage (BFP) and visceral adipose tissue area (VAT area) were collected from a whole body scan using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the associations of AHI with BFP, VAT area, and CVAI. Results. The prevalence rate of OSA was 80%, and the mean (±SD) of age was 47.0±13.6 years. Apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) was significantly and positively associated with either VAT area (r=0.433, p≤0.001) or Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) (r=0.355, p≤0.001) but not for BFP (r=0.107, p=0.294). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that VAT area and CVAI were significantly associated with increased risk of OSA, and the adjusted ORs were (95% CI) 1.025 (1.003-1.047, p=0.023) and 1.018 (1.002-1.034, p=0.030), respectively. However, there was no significant association between BFP and increased risk of OSA. Conclusions. VAT area and CVAI were independent risk factors of OSA in the patients with T2DM.
