Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a pivotal reaction in many technologies for renewable energy, such as water splitting, metal–air batteries, and regenerative fuel cells. However, this reaction is ...known to be kinetically sluggish and proceeds at rather high overpotential due to the universal scaling relationship, namely, the adsorption energies of intermediates are linearly correlated and cannot be optimized simultaneously. Several approaches have been proposed to break the scaling relationship by introducing additional active sites; however, positive experimental results are still absent. Herein, a different solution is suggested on the basis of dynamic tridimensional adsorption of the OER intermediates at NiO/NiFe layered double hydroxide intersection, by which the adsorption energy of each intermediate can be adjusted independently, so as to bypass the scaling relationship and achieve high catalytic performance. Experimentally, the OER overpotential is reduced to ≈205 mV at current density of 30 mA cm−2, which represents the best performance achieved by state‐of‐the‐art OER catalysts.

Air pollution constitutes a significant stimulus of asthma exacerbations; however, the impacts of exposure to major air pollutants on asthma-related hospital admissions and emergency room visits ...(ERVs) have not been fully determined.
We sought to quantify the associations between short-term exposure to air pollutants ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and particulate matter ≤10 μm (PM10) and PM2.5 and the asthma-related emergency room visits (ERV) and hospitalizations.
Systematic computerized searches without language limitation were performed. Pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were estimated using the random-effect models. Sensitivity analyses and subgroup analyses were also performed.
After screening of 246 studies, 87 were included in our analyses. Air pollutants were associated with significantly increased risks of asthma ERVs and hospitalizations O3: RR(95%CI), 1.009 (1.006, 1.011); I2 = 87.8%, population-attributable fraction (PAF) (95%CI): 0.8 (0.6, 1.1); CO: RR(95%CI), 1.045 (1.029, 1.061); I2 = 85.7%, PAF (95%CI): 4.3 (2.8, 5.7); NO2: RR(95%CI), 1.018 (1.014, 1.022); I2 = 87.6%, PAF (95%CI): 1.8 (1.4, 2.2); SO2: RR(95%CI), 1.011 (1.007, 1.015); I2 = 77.1%, PAF (95%CI): 1.1 (0.7, 1.5); PM10: RR(95%CI), 1.010 (1.008, 1.013); I2 = 69.1%, PAF (95%CI): 1.1 (0.8, 1.3); PM2.5: RR(95%CI), 1.023 (1.015, 1.031); I2 = 82.8%, PAF (95%CI): 2.3 (1.5, 3.1). Sensitivity analyses yielded compatible findings as compared with the overall analyses without publication bias. Stronger associations were found in hospitalized males, children and elderly patients in warm seasons with lag of 2 days or greater.
Short-term exposures to air pollutants account for increased risks of asthma-related ERVs and hospitalizations that constitute a considerable healthcare utilization and socioeconomic burden.

Summary In China, where air pollution has become a major threat to public health, public awareness of the detrimental effects of air pollution on respiratory health is increasing—particularly in ...relation to haze days. Air pollutant emission levels in China remain substantially higher than are those in developed countries. Moreover, industry, traffic, and household biomass combustion have become major sources of air pollutant emissions, with substantial spatial and temporal variations. In this Review, we focus on the major constituents of air pollutants and their impacts on chronic respiratory diseases. We highlight targets for interventions and recommendations for pollution reduction through industrial upgrading, vehicle and fuel renovation, improvements in public transportation, lowering of personal exposure, mitigation of the direct effects of air pollution through healthy city development, intervention at population-based level (systematic health education, intensive and individualised intervention, pre-emptive measures, and rehabilitation), and improvement in air quality. The implementation of a national environmental protection policy has become urgent.
Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation (NHQC) has been developed to shorten the construction times of geometric quantum gates. However, previous NHQC gates require the driving Hamiltonian to ...satisfy a set of rather restrictive conditions, reducing the robustness of the resulting geometric gates against control errors. Here we show that nonadiabatic geometric gates can be constructed in an extensible way, called NHQC+, for maintaining both flexibility and robustness against certain types of noises. Consequently, this approach makes it possible to incorporate most of the existing optimal control methods, such as dynamical decoupling, composite pulses, and a shortcut to adiabaticity, into the construction of single-looped geometric gates. Furthermore, this extensible approach of geometric quantum computation can be applied to various physical platforms such as superconducting qubits and nitrogen-vacancy centers. Specifically, we performed numerical simulation to show how the noise robustness in recent experimental implementations Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 140503 (2017); Nat. Photonics 11, 309 (2017) can be significantly improved by our NHQC+.approach. These results cover a large class of new techniques combing the noise robustness of both geometric phase and optimal control theory.
Impossible voltage plateau regulation for the cathode materials with fixed active elemental center is a pressing issue hindering the development of Na‐superionic‐conductor (NASICON)‐type ...Na3V2(PO4)2F3 (NVPF) cathodes in sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, a high‐entropy substitution strategy, to alter the detailed crystal structure of NVPF without changing the central active V atom, is pioneeringly utilized, achieving simultaneous electronic conductivity enhancement and diffusion barrier reduction for Na+, according to theoretical calculations. The as‐prepared carbon‐free high‐entropy Na3V1.9(Ca,Mg,Al,Cr,Mn)0.1(PO4)2F3 (HE‐NVPF) cathode can deliver higher mean voltage of 3.81 V and more advantageous energy density up to 445.5 Wh kg−1, which is attributed by the diverse transition‐metal elemental substitution in high‐entropy crystalline. More importantly, high‐entropy introduction can help realize disordered rearrangement of Na+ at Na(2) active sites, thereby to refrain from unfavorable discharging behaviors at low‐voltage region, further lifting up the mean working voltage to realize a full Na‐ion storage at the high voltage plateau. Coupling with a hard carbon (HC) anode, HE‐NVPF//HC SIB full cells can deliver high specific energy density of 326.8 Wh kg−1 at 5 C with the power density of 2178.9 W kg−1. This route means the unlikely potential regulation in NASICON‐type crystal with unchangeable active center becomes possible, inspiring new ideas on elevating the mean working voltage for SIB cathodes.
A high‐entropy effect is delicately introduced into fluorophosphate cathode for sodium‐ion batteries by in situ partial substitution of active V central atom, preparing a high‐entropy carbon‐free Na3V1.9(Ca,Mg,Al,Cr,Mn)0.1(PO4)2F3 cathode, suppressing the occurrence of detrimental phase transition process in the low‐voltage region, and further lifting up the mean working voltage of pristine Na3V2(PO4)2F3, enhancing sodium storage behavior, rate capability, and cycle performance.
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in the regulation of resistance to radiotherapy in cervical cancer, which is a type of gynecological disease with high mortality in women around the ...world. Hence, our purpose is to delineate the involvement of LINC00958 in regulating cell sensitivity to radiotherapy in cervical cancer. LINC00958 expression in cervical cancer was assayed, followed by verification of the relationship among LINC00958, microRNA‐5095 (miR‐5095) and ribonucleotide reductase subunit M2 (RRM2). Hela cells were transduced with up‐/downregulation of miR‐5095 or RRM2, or LINC00958 silencing, respectively, and then treated with or without a 6 Gy dose of X‐ray irradiation. Then the cell proliferation, apoptosis, survival fraction rate, as well as sensitivity to radiotherapy, were assessed. Finally, xenograft tumor in nude mice was established by transplanting Hela cells transfected with sh‐LINC00958 and irradiated with 6 Gy of X‐ray. High expression of LINC00958 was revealed in The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, as well as in radiation‐resistant patients, which was associated with lower sensitivity to radiotherapy in cervical cancer. Moreover, cervical cancer patients with higher LINC00958 expression exhibited a shorter overall survival according to Kaplan–Meier analysis. In addition, LINC00958 could regulate the expression of RRM2 by competing for miR‐5095. A combination of radiotherapy with LINC00958 silencing, RRM2 downregulation or miR‐5095 overexpression was found to inhibit cervical cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth, while promoting cell apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, our results suggest that LINC00958 could regulate RRM2 by competing to miR‐5095, which regulates cell sensitivity to radiotherapy in cervical cancer.

ASFV is a large DNA virus that is highly pathogenic in domestic pigs. How this virus is sensed by the innate immune system as well as why it is so virulent remains enigmatic. In this study, we show ...that the ASFV genome contains AT-rich regions that are recognized by the DNA-directed RNA polymerase III (Pol-III), leading to viral RNA sensor RIG-I-mediated innate immune responses. We further show that ASFV protein I267L inhibits RNA Pol-III-RIG-I-mediated innate antiviral responses. I267L interacts with the E3 ubiquitin ligase Riplet, disrupts Riplet-RIG-I interaction and impairs Riplet-mediated K63-polyubiquitination and activation of RIG-I. I267L-deficient ASFV induces higher levels of interferon-β, and displays compromised replication both in primary macrophages and pigs compared with wild-type ASFV. Furthermore, I267L-deficiency attenuates the virulence and pathogenesis of ASFV in pigs. These findings suggest that ASFV I267L is an important virulence factor by impairing innate immune responses mediated by the RNA Pol-III-RIG-I axis.

Air pollution is a major environmental hazard to human health and a leading cause of morbidity for asthma worldwide.
To assess the current evidence on short-term effects (from several hours to 7 days) of exposure to ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and sulphur dioxide (SO2) on asthma exacerbations, defined as emergency room visits (ERVs) and hospital admissions (HAs).
We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and other electronic databases to retrieve studies that investigated the risk of asthma-related ERVs and HAs associated with short-term exposure to O3, NO2, or SO2. We evaluated the risks of bias (RoB) for individual studies and the certainty of evidence for each pollutant in the overall analysis. A subgroup analysis was performed, stratified by sex, age, and type of asthma exacerbation. We conducted sensitivity analysis by excluding the studies with high RoB and based on the E-value. Publication bias was examined with the Egger’s test and with funnel plots.
Our literature search retrieved 9,059 articles, and finally 67 studies were included, from which 48 studies included the data on children, 21 on adults, 14 on the elderly, and 31 on the general population. Forty-three studies included data on asthma ERVs, and 25 on asthma HAs. The pooled relative risk (RR) per 10 µg/m3 increase of ambient concentrations was 1.008 (95%CI: 1.005, 1.011) for maximum 8-hour daily or average 24-hour O3, 1.014 (95%CI: 1.008, 1.020) for average 24-hour NO2, 1.010 (95%CI: 1.001, 1.020) for 24-hour SO2, 1.017 (95%CI: 0.973, 1.063) for maximum 1-hour daily O3, 0.999 (95%CI: 0.966, 1.033) for 1-hour NO2, and 1.003 (95%CI: 0.992, 1.014) for 1-hour SO2. Heterogeneity was observed in all pollutants except for 8-hour or 24-hour O3 and 24-hour NO2. In general, we found no significant differences between subgroups that can explain this heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis based on the RoB showed certain differences in NO2 and SO2 when considering the outcome or confounding domains, but the analysis using the E-value showed that no unmeasured confounders were expected. There was no major evidence of publication bias. Based on the adaptation of the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation, the certainty of evidence was high for 8-hour or 24-hour O3 and 24-hour NO2, moderate for 24-hour SO2, 1-hour O3, and 1-hour SO2, and low for 1-hour NO2.
Short-term exposure to daily O3, NO2, and SO2 was associated with an increased risk of asthma exacerbation in terms of asthma-associated ERVs and HAs.
In the natural environment, interactions between species are a common natural phenomena. The mechanisms of interaction between different species are mainly studied using genomic, transcriptomic, ...proteomic, and metabolomic techniques. Metabolomics is a crucial part of system biology and is based on precision instrument analysis. In the last decade, the emerging field of metabolomics has received extensive attention. Metabolomics not only provides a qualitative and quantitative method for studying the mechanisms of interactions between different species, but also helps clarify the mechanisms of defense between the host and pathogen, and to explore new metabolites with various biological activities. This review focuses on the methods and progress of interspecies metabolomics. Additionally, the prospects and challenges of interspecies metabolomics are discussed.
