Energy problems have become increasingly prominent. The use of thermal insulation materials is an effective measure to save energy. As an efficient energy-saving material, nanocellulose aerogels have ...broad application prospects. However, nanocellulose aerogels have problems such as poor mechanical properties, high flammability, and they easily absorbs water from the environment. These defects restrict their thermal insulation performance and severely limit their application. This review analyzes the thermal insulation mechanism of nanocellulose aerogels and summarizes the methods of preparing them from biomass raw materials. In addition, aiming at the inherent defects of nanocellulose aerogels, this review focuses on the methods used to improve their mechanical properties, flame retardancy, and hydrophobicity in order to prepare high-performance thermal insulation materials in line with the concept of sustainable development, thereby promoting energy conservation, rational use, and expanding the application of nanocellulose aerogels.
The Dou-Gong bracket is a key transition component between the roof and the column in ancient Chinese wooden structures. In this paper, the static structural behavior of Qing-style ‘one bucket three ...liters’ Column-cap Dou-Gong Bracket (third-class material) full-scale test model was studied by simulation. The simulation of monotonic static loading was carried out in the vertical (Z-axis) direction, and the simulation of quasi-static loading under horizontal low-cycle reciprocating load was carried out in the horizontal direction (Y-axis, X-axis). The material of the simulation was P. sylvestris, and the setting of its material parameters referred to the results obtained from the material property tests. An anisotropic constitutive model suitable for the properties of wood materials was selected, and the elastoplasticity of wood in the simulation was defined by the Hill yield rule. The static structural behavior of the component in the Z-axis could be described by the variable stiffness linear elastic mechanical model. The static structural behavior of the component in the Y-axis and X-axis could be described by a multi-linear restoring force model. According to the simulation results, the key mechanical indexes of Dou-Gong bracket component in the Z, Y, and X axes were calculated from three aspects of strength, deformation, and energy.

•First study to prepare human metapneumovirus virus like particle (HMPV VLP) in a baculovirus.•HMPV VLP induces specific immune responses and protective efficacy in mice.•Aluminum hydroxide adjuvant ...enhances above immunogenicity and protective efficacy.
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) causes respiratory tract infections among infant, elderly, and immunocompromised patients, with significant mortality. Currently no licensed vaccines or therapeutic agents of HMPV exist.
HMPV virus-like particle (VLP) was constructed by co-expressing fusion protein of HMPV and matrix 1 protein of influenza virus using the baculovirus expression. Mice were immunized with VLP with or without aluminum hydroxide (alum) adjuvant by intramuscular route respectively. Sera were determined for titers of IgG and neutralizing antibody. Splenic lymphocytes were determined by IFN-γ and IL-4 ELISPOT. Mice were challenged with HMPV, and protective efficacy was evaluated.
We generated HMPV VLP in baculovirus expression system. After three times immunization, IgG antibody titers induced by VLP formulated with or without alum adjuvant group were 273,066 ± 100,331 and 136,533 ± 47,269 respectively, there was no difference (p ˃ 0.05); the neutralizing antibody titers vaccinated with VLP plus with alum adjuvant (266 ± 92) were higher than those of the VLP alone group (106 ± 37). For IFN-γ, mice vaccinated with VLP with or without alum adjuvant are 151 ± 36.4 and 77.0 ± 17.1SFC/106 respectively, there was difference (p = 0.03); For IL-4, they are 261.3 ± 38.7 versus 125.67 ± 29.78SFC/106 respectively, the difference was significant (p = 0.009). After challenge, in pathological analysis, the overall lesion scores in the VLP plus with and without alum adjuvant were 3.25 and 5.6 respectively, those of control group is 8. For immunohistochemical analyses, the average optical density of the lungs in the VLP immunized group containing adjuvant (9.07 ± 1.74) was lower than that in the VLP group without adjuvant (12.83 ± 2.31, p = 0.14).
This is the first study to demonstrate that HMPV VLP was successfully prepared in the baculovirus expression system. HMPV VLP could induce specific humoral and cellular immune responses as well as protective efficacy, and aluminum hydroxide may be an effective adjuvant in mice.
Steroid insensitivity constitutes a major problem for asthma management. Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is one of the leading allergens of asthma that induces both T-helper Th2 and Th17 responses, and is ...often associated with poor responsiveness to steroid treatment in the clinic. We sought to evaluate the effects of inhaled and systemic steroids on a TDI-induced asthma model and to find how interleukin (IL)-17A and IL-17F function in this model. BALB/c mice were exposed to TDI for generating an asthma model and were treated with inhaled fluticasone propionate, systemic prednisone, anti-IL-17A, anti-IL-17F, recombinant IL-17A or IL-17F.Both fluticasone propionate and prednisone showed no effects on TDI-induced airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), bronchial neutrophilia and eosinophilia, and epithelial goblet cell metaplasia. TDI-induced Th2 and Th17 signatures were not suppressed by fluticasone propionate or prednisone. Treatment with anti-IL-17A after TDI exposure led to increased AHR, aggravated mucus production and airway eosinophil recruitment, accompanied by amplified Th2 responses, whereas anti-IL-17F ameliorated TDI-induced AHR and airway neutrophilia, with decreased Th17 responses. Recombinant IL-17A and IL-17F showed opposite effects to the monoclonal antibodies.IL-17A and IL-17F exert distinct biological effects during airway inflammation of a TDI-induced asthma model, which is unresponsive to both inhaled and systemic steroids.
Abstract
Multiple studies have addressed the vital role of Nod-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)/caspase-1/IL-1β signaling in asthma. Yet, the role of NLRP3/caspase-1 in toluene diisocyanate ...(TDI)-induced asthma is still obscure. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of the NLRP3/caspase-1 axis in TDI-induced asthma. Using an established murine model of TDI-induced asthma as described previously, we gave the asthmatic mice a highly selective NLRP3 inhibitor, MCC950, as well as the specific caspase-1 inhibitors VX-765 and Ac-YVAD-CHO for therapeutic purposes. Airway resistance was measured and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was analyzed. Lungs were examined by histology, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and flow cytometry. TDI exposure elevated the expression of NLRP3 and caspase-1 that was coupled with increased airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), neutrophil-dominated cell infiltration, pronounced goblet cell metaplasia, extensive collagen deposition, and increased TH2/TH17 responses. Both VX-765 and Ac-YVAD-CHO effectively inhibited the activation of caspase-1 in TDI-asthmatic mice that was accompanied by dramatic attenuation of AHR, airway inflammation, and airway remodeling, in addition to a decreased TH2 response and lower levels of IL-18 and IL-1β. MCC950 blocked the activation of NLRP3 and downregulated protein expression of caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 in TDI-exposed mice. Furthermore, MCC950 remarkably alleviated AHR, airway inflammation, airway remodeling, and significantly suppressed TH2/TH17 responses. These findings suggested that blockade of the NLRP3/caspase-1 axis effectively prevents the progression of TDI-induced asthma and could be used as therapeutic targets for asthmatics.
Background:
Periodontitis is associated with periodontal tissue damage and teeth loss. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has an intimate relationship with periodontitis. Nevertheless, ...interacted mechanisms between them have not been clear. This study was intended for the exploration of shared gene signatures and latent therapeutic targets in periodontitis and NAFLD.
Methods:
Microarray datasets of periodontitis and NAFLD were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was utilized for the acquisition of modules bound up with NAFLD and periodontitis. We used ClueGO to carry out biological analysis on shared genes to search their latent effects in NAFLD and periodontitis. Another cohort composed of differential gene analysis verified the results. The common microRNAs (miRNAs) in NAFLD and periodontitis were acquired in the light of the Human microRNA Disease Database (HMDD). According to miRTarbase, miRDB, and Targetscan databases, latent target genes of miRNAs were forecasted. Finally, the miRNAs–mRNAs network was designed.
Results:
Significant modules with periodontitis and NAFLD were obtained
via
WGCNA. GO enrichment analysis with GlueGo indicated that damaged migration of dendritic cells (DCs) might be a common pathophysiologic feature of NAFLD and periodontitis. In addition, we revealed common genes in NAFLD and periodontitis, including IGK, IGLJ3, IGHM, MME, SELL, ENPP2, VCAN, LCP1, IGHD, FCGR2C, ALOX5AP, IGJ, MMP9, FABP4, IL32, HBB, FMO1, ALPK2, PLA2G7, MNDA, HLA-DRA, and SLC16A7. The results of differential analysis in another cohort were highly accordant with the findings of WGCNA. We established a comorbidity model to explain the underlying mechanism of NAFLD secondary to periodontitis. Finally, the analysis of miRNA pointed out that hsa-mir-125b-5p, hsa-mir-17-5p, and hsa-mir-21-5p might provide potential therapeutic targets.
Conclusion:
Our study initially established a comorbidity model to explain the underlying mechanism of NAFLD secondary to periodontitis, found that damaged migration of DCs might be a common pathophysiological feature of NAFLD and periodontitis, and provided potential therapeutic targets.
As the construction industry places increasing emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainability, this trend has spurred profound research into the optimization of door and window ...performance. One of the critical components of windows is their frames. Over the past several decades, the design of window frames has undergone significant innovations, ranging from introducing new materials to novel design concepts. The performance of window frames is typically influenced by materials, structural design, and the surrounding environment. Consequently, this paper analyzes the common window frame materials in Chinese civil buildings through investigation. It explores commonly used types of window frames available in the market, focusing on their materials and structural designs. It analyzes issues observed during their usage, integrates findings from existing research, and discusses the performance of window frame materials. Additionally, it explores improvement strategies to meet the evolving demands of contemporary and future architectural doors and windows, providing valuable reference points for designers. Finally, approaching the discussion from a sustainable development perspective, the paper evaluates the environmental impact of wood, aluminum alloy, polymer, and composite window frame materials. It emphasizes that wood- and aluminum-clad wood windows represent sustainable options with versatile applications in diverse scenarios.
Sunflowers are widely cultivated as a cash crop in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. However, due to the lack of efficient resource utilization techniques, most of the sunflower stalks are ...discarded. In the Hetao irrigation area, the problem of desertification has prompted the limited use of sunflower straw to construct physical sand barriers for windbreaks and sand stabilization. In response to this, this study focuses on synthesizing a cellulose ether sand-fixing material using sunflower straw, the primary agricultural waste in Denkou County, Hetao irrigation district. This material enhances the effective adhesion between sand grains, reduces porosity among loose sand grains, and inhibits sand grain movement. The findings from this study conclusively demonstrate that the sand-fixing materials under investigation meet international standards for mechanical properties. They effectively transform loose, unconnected sand grains into a state with strong adhesion properties.

We present starburst models for far-infrared/-millimeter/millimeter line emission of molecular and atomic gas in an evolving starburst region, which is treated as an ensemble of noninteracting hot ...bubbles that drive spherical shells of swept-up gas into a surrounding uniform gas medium. These bubbles and shells are driven by stellar winds and supernovae within massive star clusters formed during an instantaneous starburst. The underlying stellar radiation from the evolving clusters affects the properties and structure of photodissociation regions (PDRs) in the shells, and hence the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of the molecular and atomic line emission from these swept-up shells and the associated parent giant molecular clouds contain a signature of the stage of evolution of the starburst. The physical and chemical properties of the shells and their structure are computed using a simple, well-known similarity solution for the shell expansion, a stellar population synthesis code, and a time-dependent PDR chemistry model. The SEDs for several molecular and atomic lines (12CO and its isotope 13CO, HCN, HCO+, C, O, and C+) are computed using a nonlocal thermodynamic equilibrium line radiative transfer model. By comparing our models with the available observed data of nearby infrared bright galaxies, especially M 82, we constrain the models and in the case of M 82, we provide estimates for the ages (5-6 Myr, 10 Myr) of recent starburst activity. We also derive a total H2 gas mass of ~(2-3.4) X 108 M for the observed regions of the central 1 kpc starburst disk of M 82.
Human adenoviruse (HAdV) is a major pathogen of paediatric respiratory tract infections (RTIs). Mutation or recombination of HAdV genes may cause changes in its pathogenicity and transmission. We ...described the epidemiology and genotypic diversity of HAdV in hospitalized children with RTIs in Beijing, China.
Nasopharyngeal aspirates were collected from hospitalized children with RTIs from April 2018 to March 2019. HAdVs were detected by a quantitative real-time PCR, and the hexon gene was used for phylogenetic analysis.
Among 1572 samples, 90 (5.72%) were HAdV-positive. The HAdV detection rate was highest in November and July. Among HAdV-positive children, 61.11% (55/90) were co-infected with other respiratory viruses, the most common of which were human respiratory syncytial virus and human rhinovirus. The main diagnosis was bronchopneumonia, most patient have cough and fever. Children with a high viral load were more likely to have a high fever (P = 0.041) and elevated WBC count (P = 0.000). Of 55 HAdV-positive specimens, HAdV-B (63.64%), HAdV-C (27.27%), and HAdV-E (9.09%) were main epidemic species. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that hexon sequences of three samples were on the same branch with the recombinant HAdV strain (CBJ113), which was circulating in Beijing since 2016.
The HAdV-B3 and HAdV-B7 are the main epidemic strains in Beijing, and the recombinant HAdV-C strain CBJ113 has formed an epidemic trend.
